Clyde grinned. Then he dashed away again. His body moved through the surrounding debris, he moved between buildings and floating slabs of land.
The three serpentine monsters immediately pursued him, their furious hisses echoing through the ruined city. They were faster than the first one.
Their enormous bodies twisted through the air as they chased him, their wings beating violently and sending shockwaves through the ruins.
While Clyde passed between two floating structures, the serpents just smashed through them. Buildings collapsed behind him. Concrete shattered. Burning vehicles were knocked from the air and disappeared somewhere.
Clyde continued running and jumping. For several minutes, the four figures tore through the ruined city, leaving destruction in their wake.
Then Clyde suddenly changed direction. His feet struck against a floating platform, and his entire body twisted around.
He raised his sword and immediately, lightning exploded around the blade. At the same time, flames erupted from his hands. He had activated his other skill-Burning Hand.
Fire wrapped around his arms, shoulders, and legs before spreading across the sword. Blue-white lightning intertwined with orange flames, creating a violent combination of two different powers.
Clyde’s eyes sharpened, he accelerated.
The three serpents saw him coming but could not react in time.
Clyde became a streak of fire and lightning. The first serpent opened its enormous jaws to attack, and Clyde thrust his sword forward.
They collided in the middle of the ruins.
The sword pierced through the serpent’s scales with tremendous force. Lightning exploded through its body and flames spread from the wound, burning through flesh and scales from the inside.
The serpent screamed.
Clyde’s body then twisted as he pulled the sword free and immediately struck again. With both Fire and Lightning enhancing him simultaneously, his movements had become dramatically faster and more powerful. Every step exploded with energy, his swings carried huge force that was able to tear through the serpent’s defenses.
The creature tried to retreat, but Clyde was already beside its head. His sword flashed.
The serpent’s throat opened beneath the blade. Dark blood erupted into the air. The massive creature convulsed once before its body went limp.
Clyde did not even look at the corpse because there were still two of them remaining. The other serpents attacked him immediately.
One of them came from his left while the other one descended from above, their jaws opening wide to reveal rows of enormous teeth.
Clyde jumped backward. The first set of jaws snapped shut where his body had been.
He twisted in midair and swung his sword, sending a wave of lightning and fire erupted from the blade and struck the second serpent directly in the face.
The monster roared and recoiled. The first serpent came again from behind.
Clyde sensed it. He turned sharply and raised his sword.
CLANG!
The blade collided with its teeth, and an explosion of fire and lightning erupted between them.
Clyde was pushed backward through the air. But he grinned. Two against one. That was exactly what he wanted. He raised his sword and released another burst of power.
Lightning and flames erupted from the blade at the same time, tearing through the air toward the two serpents. The attacks struck them almost simultaneously in their faces.
Fire spread across their scales, burning through the gaps between their plates, while lightning crawled across their heads in violent arcs.
For several seconds, the monsters were blinded by the explosions of light and flame. They roared and thrashed wildly, their enormous bodies smashing through floating debris.
But they were tougher than Clyde had expected. The burns were severe, but neither monster died yet.
One of the serpents suddenly broke through the flames and lunged toward him.
Clyde disappeared immediately. His body accelerated with a burst of lightning and reappeared beside the monster’s head and swung his sword.
Fire and lightning gathered along the blade, forming a destructive edge that tore through the serpent’s scales. Dark blood sprayed into the air as the sword carved a deep wound across its neck.
The serpent screamed and twisted violently.
Clyde followed with another slash, and then another.
Every attack carried both elements, burning the wounds and tearing deeper into the creature’s body.
The serpent attempted to retaliate but its movements had already become slower. Clyde moved around it with incredible speed, striking from different angles before disappearing again.
Finally, he drove his sword deep into its throat. Lightning exploded through its body, flames followed. The serpent convulsed before becoming still.
Clyde pulled his sword free and immediately turned toward the last monster.
The remaining serpent roared and charged.
Clyde met it head-on. Their bodies collided among the floating ruins, but the battle was already decided. The serpent had suffered too many wounds.
Clyde moved faster, struck harder, and continued combining fire and lightning with every attack. Within moments, another series of devastating slashes tore through its scales.
The final blow opened its throat. The serpent’s enormous body went limp and slowly drifted sideways.
Clyde landed on a floating slab of concrete, his sword still covered in flames and crackling lightning. Three more monsters had died and their essence added to his body.
Clyde returned to the central ruins and repeated the same process. He would approach the serpents, provoke one or several of them, and lure them away from the others before tearing them apart with the combination of fire, lightning, and his new sword.
One by one, the serpents fell. Some died after prolonged battles among the floating ruins or killed before they even had a chance to retaliate.
Clyde continued moving without allowing himself to become surrounded, using the unstable terrain to his advantage.
Eventually, the ninth serpent fell.
Clyde landed on a floating land and looked toward the central square. Now only one of them remained.
Unlike the others, this serpent had not moved from its position. It was larger than the rest.
Its body was covered in pale white scales that reflected the strange light of the ruined world. Two crimson eyes stared at Clyde from beneath its head, burning with an unmistakable fury.
Its wings were also different. They were larger and appeared far more powerful, with thick membranes.
Clyde narrowed his eyes. This one was clearly the strongest. He slowly descended into the large square that had once served as the serpents’ nest.
The ground stretched around him, surrounded by floating buildings and debris. Behind the final serpent, partially buried among the stone, the Voidheart Crystal shimmered, his objective.
The white serpent lowered its head. For several seconds, they didn’t move.
Clyde took a deep breath and he lunged forward. His body exploded with speed.
But before he could reach the serpent, its crimson eyes suddenly flashed, red lightning erupted from its gaze. A violent bolt of red lighting shot across the distance and struck Clyde directly.
His body was blasted backward through the air.
