The massive head continued rising from behind the castle. Clyde’s expression slowly hardened.
It was a human head, or at least looks like one. The thing was as large as a house. That thing has an enormous face that was completely devoid of eyes.
Where its mouth should have been, there was only a massive opening stretching unnaturally wide across its lower face. No teeth were visible inside. There was only darkness.
Clyde could not even determine its gender. The features were distorted beyond recognition, with pale flesh stretched across an impossibly large skull.
Dark clouds constantly shrouded the head, swirling around it like smoke that was alive. They twisted and crawled across its face before being pulled upward by some invisible force, and then came down again and started another cycle.
Then the creature continued rising. More of its body emerged from behind the castle.
Clyde’s eyes widened slightly. It had a long serpentine body. But there were no scales. He had expected that it had a giant humanoid body.
The entire thing appeared to have been made from black flesh. Its surface looked wet and strangely organic, constantly shifting as if something beneath the skin was moving.
And then Clyde saw the hands. Hundreds of them, perhaps even thousands. Human arms protruded from the creature’s black flesh with pale fingers twisting and clawing at the air. Some hands reached out while others dragged themselves across its body.
The countless arms moved independently, creating a disturbing illusion of a gigantic centipede made from flesh and human limbs.
The sight was horrifying.
Arven’s face immediately went pale. "What the hell is that..." He cursed under his breath and tightened his grip on his staff.
Maira grimaced as she stared at the enormous creature.
Don simply looked up at it in disbelief. "Hell nah! What the hell is that?!"
Even Samuel’s composure had finally begun to crack. He still stood straight with his spear firmly in his hand, but his jaw had hardened and the muscles around his eyes had tightened.
Clyde could not blame him. Even he found himself grimacing at the creature’s appearance. There were so many things wrong about it. It was not just large.
Samuel took a slow breath, and shouted, "Move!" His voice still sounded calm. "Everyone, move!"
The team immediately obeyed.
They turned and began running across the floating ruins.
Behind them, the creature suddenly moved with unnatural speed. Then it lunged with a deafening shriek erupted from the creature.
"KHAAAA!"
It sounded like thousands of tortured souls screaming at the same time. The sound shook the entire Ruin. Clyde felt the vibration travel through his bones.
"Move!" Samuel shouted again.
The massive creature crashed toward them. Its black body slammed into the floating land they had occupied moments earlier.
The entire platform shattered, stone and dirt exploded, massive pieces of concrete and earth thrown into the air.
The countless hands covering the creature’s body clawed wildly at the ruins as it pushed forward, dragging its enormous serpentine body through the floating landscape.
The team keeps running.
Arven stumbled as a section of the ground collapsed beneath his feet.
"Arven!" Maira immediately grabbed his arm and pulled him upright. "You good?"
"I’m fine." Arven steadied himself and continued running.
Clyde glanced backward while moving.
The creature was still coming.
Its enormous human head twisted toward them, the countless hands on its body reached toward them.
Clyde’s eyes swept across the team. Samuel was ahead. Don followed closely behind him. Maira and Arven were keeping pace. Leyan was already moving toward another floating platform.
Good.
Arven was slower than the others, but Clyde noticed something reassuring. The mage’s body was not weak.
Even while struggling to keep up with fighters who specialized in close combat, Arven maintained his pace and did not collapse.
At least he wasn’t going to become dead weight.
Clyde accelerated, and then not long after the group reached the edge of the floating land.
One after another, they jumped.
Samuel landed on another floating platform. Don followed and landed next. Maira landed beside him and Arven smoothly crossed the gap with his skill.
Clyde landed last. The team finally managed to put some distance between themselves and the monstrous creature.
They breathed heavily.
Clyde looked back and saw the enormous creature was still moving through the ruins, its black serpentine body curving between the floating structures.
Its head remained high above everything else. The thousands of hands continued crawling across its flesh.
Samuel slowly turned toward his team. His expression had become completely serious. He lowered his stance and tightened his grip around his spear.
"Prepare for a fight!"
The others immediately readied their weapons. Clyde’s hand settled around the hilt of his longsword.
The monster finally noticed them. That giant human head twisted toward their position. Its empty face seemed to focus on them despite having no eyes at all.
Then it opened its mouth and a horrifying shriek erupted from its throat. It shook the floating ruins and sent a cold sensation through Clyde’s entire body.
The monster lunged without wasting time. Countless hands clawing wildly on the floating ruins as it charged toward them.
Samuel immediately turned toward Arven.
The mage understood without needing further explanation. He raised his staff and began channeling his magic.
Magical light spread from the staff before exploding. The magic swept across the entire team, wrapping around their bodies.
Clyde immediately felt his body become lighter. The weight of his armor seemed to disappear and it felt like his muscles would respond more quickly.
Clyde knew the skill immediately because it was the same enhancement magic Arven had used during their training sessions.
"Hmm, this is a nice speed enhancement," Clyde muttered.
Arven nodded while continuing to maintain the spell. "It won’t last forever. Move while you can!"
The monster was already approaching.
Samuel lowered his body.
His spear ignited with brilliant red flames. The fire crawled along it until it glowed like molten metal.
"Move!" Samuel was the first to charge.
He shot forward across the floating land, his spear held tightly in one hand as the flames around it burned brighter.
The others immediately followed.
Clyde moved behind Samuel with his enhanced body carrying him across the terrain with surprising ease.
In front of them, the enormous monster released another shriek.
