The shriek filled the entire Ruin again. The sound rolled across the landscape like a wave, shaking the floating ruins and sending dust cascading from the broken buildings.
Clyde immediately felt a sharp pain spread through his head again. His vision blurred for a moment and almost stumbled, but he gritted his teeth and forced himself to endure it.
Samuel was already charging ahead. His expression had become grim as he tightened his grip around his spear. Leyan, Maira, and Don moved alongside Clyde, keeping formation as the enormous creature descended toward them.
Clyde raised his sword. Blue light began gathering around the blade as he channeled his magic power into it. Lightning crawled across the glass blade, growing brighter.
The serpent creature attacked. Its enormous head surged forward, its hollow eye sockets glowing with ghostly lights beneath the swirling black clouds.
Samuel stepped forward and thrust his spear directly toward its snout.
The spear collided with the creature’s massive head, producing a violent shockwave that spread across the battlefield. Samuel’s feet dug into the ground, but he refused to retreat.
He thrust again, and again, the strikes exploded against the serpent’s blackened flesh.
Leyan moved behind him, drawing his bow. He released one arrow after another in quick succession.
The arrows were coated in a thin red mist that clung to their tips. Every arrow that pierced the serpent’s body left behind a bleeding effect, causing dark blood to spill from the wounds.
Maira suddenly disappeared from the serpent’s field of vision.
She slipped beneath its enormous body while its attention remained focused on Samuel. Her curved blades flashed through the darkness.
She slashes and one of the creature’s arms was severed. Another slash followed, and a second limb fell.
Maira twisted beneath the monster’s body and continued cutting at its exposed flesh before retreating just as another enormous limb slammed into the ground.
Don arrived beside Samuel a moment later.
He raised his shield and absorbed the next attack.
The impact forced him several steps backward.
Samuel immediately moved around him and thrust his spear into the opening.
The two fighters began alternating seamlessly.
Whenever Don blocked an attack, Samuel struck. Whenever the serpent turned its attention toward Samuel, Don stepped between them and absorbed the blow. Then Samuel would move behind Don and attack again.
Their movements were not flashy, but they were efficient. Years of fighting together had turned their coordination into instinctive movements.
Clyde watched from behind them for a moment. Then his grip tightened around his sword. He uses his [Pure Lightning] skill. Lightning suddenly erupted around his body and the entire blade of his sword became coated in brilliant blue-white lightning.
Clyde raised it and swung it. A concentrated streak of lightning shot from the blade and struck directly into one of the serpent’s hollow eye sockets.
Lightning exploded inside the creature’s head. The serpent’s enormous body convulsed.
Samuel and Leyan both glanced toward Clyde.
Their eyes widened slightly when they saw the destructive power of the attack.
They already knew Clyde had this skill but seeing it used against something this enormous was still startling.
But they didn’t waste more than a second looking. They immediately returned their attention to the battle.
The serpent released another shriek. This one sounded different, like it was filled with pain.
Leyan’s eyes sharpened. "It looks like the face is its weakness."
"Then focus on attacking the face!" Samuel shouted.
Leyan immediately drew another arrow. He aimed directly at the damaged eye socket.
The arrow flew but before it could reach the target, the black cloud surrounding the serpent’s head suddenly sped up. The swirling darkness became a violent vortex.
The arrow disappeared into it. Leyan clicked his tongue.
"That cloud is protecting it. So that’s why it keeps swirling around its head!"
Clyde watched carefully. Leyan was right.
The cloud was not just some strange phenomenon. It was actively defending the serpent’s head.
If they wanted to attack its weakness, they first needed to destroy the cloud. Or at least create an opening.
"I’ll do something about the cloud," Clyde said.
Leyan looked toward him. "What are you going to do? Don’t be reckless."
Clyde did not answer immediately. His magical power surged. Lightning began crawling across his body. Bright white and blue electricity wrapped around his arms, legs, and torso until his entire body looked like a living bolt of lightning.
"Don’t worry." Then Clyde disappeared.
Samuel and Don suddenly saw a streak of white and blue light shoot over their heads.
It slammed directly into the black cloud.
The moment Clyde entered the cloud, lightning exploded.
White-blue electricity spread through the darkness, violently pushing the black mist apart.
The swirling cloud broke open and the serpent’s face became completely exposed.
Leyan gritted his teeth. He had to admit that Jack was capable.
He immediately drew another arrow. This time there was nothing between his arrow and the hollow eye.
The arrow flew.
At the same moment, Samuel charged as well. Flames erupted around his spear as he thrust toward the exposed head.
Don roared and activated his own skill. Destructive light covered his sword then he swung up with all his strength. Three attacks arrived almost simultaneously.
Leyan’s arrow pierced the hollow eye, Samuel’s flaming spear struck the side of the creature’s head, Don’s sword tore through its exposed black flesh.
The serpent recoiled violently.
Maira emerged from beneath its enormous body and immediately saw what had happened.
Bright lightning continued tearing through the dark cloud above.
The creature’s face had been exposed.
She understood immediately.
Maira bent her knees and launched herself up. Her body soared toward the serpent’s head. Both of her curved blades flashed in her hands.
She cut through the exposed black flesh around its face.
The serpent screamed and began violently thrashing its enormous body.
After suffering attack after attack, the creature finally began retreating.
Its head pulled backward while its massive body twisted through the air.
Clyde immediately pursued. But before he could attack again, one of the serpent’s enormous limbs whipped toward him.
Clyde barely raised his sword in time. The impact sent him flying.
His body crashed through several pieces of floating rubble before he slammed into the side of a ruined building.
The serpent began pulling away.
But Samuel had no intention of letting it escape.
His eyes hardened. Red flames suddenly erupted around his spear.
The flames became brighter and denser until the entire weapon looked like a burning lance.
Samuel stepped forward and threw it.
The flaming spear crossed the battlefield and struck the serpent directly in the forehead.
A massive explosion erupted. Red flames consumed the serpent’s head.
The black flesh burned under the impact, fragments of dark material scattering through the air.
The serpent’s enormous body convulsed greatly. Then it finally dropped from the sky and crashed onto the ruined ground below it.
