Clyde was now certain. The Ancient One was truly within the ring.

It had not disappeared. It had not been dying after using its power to bring Clyde back from death and place his soul inside Jack’s body.

The realization sent a surge of exhilaration through him. The Ancient One was still here. And Clyde knew this was only the beginning. Whatever had happened between them before his death, he would eventually uncover it all.

He would find the Ancient One again, understand his purpose, and discover why he had chosen to bring him back.

Clyde’s vision gradually faded, and he returned to reality.

He opened his eyes.

The black mist surrounding the ring had become much thinner. Only a faint layer remained around the small black object.

Clyde stared at it for a moment before smiling to himself.

It seems that some of the Ancient One’s power had already entered his body.

That explained the sensation he had felt when he touched it. The connection was real.

Clyde raised the ring and turned toward the others.

"I got it! What should I do with it?" Clyde shouted.

"Bring it here!" Arven shouted.

"Okay!"

Clyde immediately dashed back toward the others.

However, the moment he moved, Robert’s eyes snapped toward him.

Clyde just needed a brief glance to understand what was happening. There was madness in those eyes. His fingers tightened around his sword.

Samuel had ordered them not to kill Robert, and Clyde had respected that order.

But the situation had changed. Robert was becoming increasingly dangerous and Clyde had no intention of sacrificing his own safety just because Samuel wanted to save his former friend.

If Robert attacked him, Clyde would fight back. He would not hesitate.

Robert suddenly lunged toward him just as Clyde had expected.

Despite fighting Samuel and the others only moments ago, Robert completely ignored them. His entire body changed direction and rushed toward Clyde with terrifying speed.

It was as if Clyde was the only thing in the entire world that mattered. Or rather... The ring was.

Clyde’s eyes narrowed. He raised his sword and aimed it directly at Robert. Lightning gathered around the blade and he released it.

A condensed bolt of lightning shot forward with incredible speed and struck Robert directly in the chest.

Robert was hurled backward. He crashed into the stone wall with such a huge force that he was cracking the surface before falling heavily onto the floor.

Then he suddenly pushed himself back up. His eyes immediately locked onto Clyde again and he charged again.

Clyde frowned. "We can’t capture him," he said firmly.

The meaning behind his words was obvious. If Robert could no longer be restrained, there was only one option left. They had to kill him.

Samuel stood silently. His expression was conflicted.

He had known Robert for a long time. They had fought together, and built a relationship like a friend. Killing him now did not feel right.

Samuel’s grip tightened around his spear. He hesitated.

Clyde looked toward the others. Leyan, Maira, Don, and even Arven were staring at Samuel with their grim expressions.

There was something almost pleading in their eyes, like they wanted Samuel to make the decision. They wanted him to say what none of them wanted to say themselves.

Samuel closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. Then he opened them.

"I’ll do it," Samuel said. He did not wait for anyone to respond.

Samuel immediately rushed toward Robert.

Robert charged toward him as well.

The two met in the middle of the hall. Samuel’s spear erupted with red flames. This time he did not hold back.

The battle was completely different from before.

Samuel’s movements became faster and more aggressive. His thrusts carried real power that was able to tear through Robert’s defenses.

Robert attempted to attack him with his corrupted strength, but Samuel overwhelmed him through his technique and force.

A spear thrust pierced through Robert’s defense. Robert staggered and Samuel stepped forward with dangerous intention, and then he sent another strike, then another, and then the final thrust struck Robert directly in the chest.

The flames exploded. Robert’s body collapsed onto the floor and lay motionless, blood spilling from the corner of his mouth. His breathing became weak and shallow.

But his expression was different. The fear and desperation that had filled his face before were gone.

Instead he looked relieved as if an unbearable pain had finally been lifted from his shoulders.

He slowly looked at Samuel. "Thank you, Sam."

Samuel clenched his jaw. He forced down the emotions threatening to rise inside him. Then he asked quietly, "Tell me what happened."

Robert’s breathing became weaker.

"There is... an ancient power..." he whispered. "It was hidden inside the ring. We found it inside this castle. We thought we could take it back to the Fortress..." Robert coughed. Blood spilled from his mouth. "But... the power overtook us."

The others finally understood. The missing team had not simply disappeared but they had found the ring with unknown power.

They had tried to bring it back but whatever power was sealed inside it had corrupted them instead.

Samuel, Leyan, Maira, Don, and Arven all became solemn. Their expressions carried a mixture of concern and anxiety as they looked toward the black ring in Clyde’s hand.

But Clyde was different. His eyes remained fixed on the ring and his expression was calm, but beneath his calm expression something entirely different was happening. He was feeling glad inside his heart.

Robert exhaled one final breath a few seconds later. His body went limp and the black mist surrounding him disappeared into the air.

The ancient presence vanished from his body, leaving only the corpse of the man they had come to find.

Samuel lowered his head for a moment before speaking. "We take him back to the Fortress."

Nobody objected. Their mission was over. They had found the missing team, discovered the source of their demise, and uncovered the truth behind what had happened.

For Clyde, however, the mission had given him something far more important.

Samuel lifted Robert’s body over his shoulder.

Together, they left the room and walked out of the ruined castle.
