Alex watched the Artifact God place the giant dragon scale on the workshop floor and sit on one side before bringing out one artifact. She looked toward Alex, explaining what she was doing.
"I have Fire, Metal, and Earth spirit roots, so I need something to create the aura for the missing Water root. This artifact will let me," she said, showing the rectangular block of clear white crystal she held in her hand.
"How exactly do you use it?" Alex asked with no small amount of curiosity. He had never seen an artifact that worked like this, after all.
"It’s quite simple. You understand how techniques work, right? How they require Intent to have the Qi go through several meridians before they end up working as they are expected to?" she asked.
"Yes. I have the Dao of Techniques," Alex said.
The woman paused for a moment, nearly losing her train of thought. But she quickly gathered herself and got right back to finishing her explanation.
"This artifact is like that. The Qi veins inside of this are created as an exact replica of what a person’s Water root veins would be, so as long as you pour your Qi in here in the exact way you would be using it inside of your body, it will create a similar result."
Alex was rather taken aback to hear about the artifact. "Such things exist?"
The Artifact God nodded.
"How come I’ve never heard of one before then?" Alex asked. "They sound incredible. They should be in the hands of every cultivator who lacks any sort of spirit root."
The woman scoffed lightly. "Do you think my artifact is so mundane that anyone could use it?" she asked. "You can’t even begin to understand the difficulty one has to go through to create such a thing. An entire Divine-rank Water-elemental Spirit vein could be wasted, and you would get no more than 10 of these. How the hell is it supposed to be widespread at that point?"
Alex blinked in surprise. "An entire Divine spirit vein?"
"A Water-elemental one at that too. Do you know how few there are? Maybe 5 in the entire world. And even then, there is no guarantee this can even be made in the end. It all depends on the luck of the Artifact Maker."
Alex gulped slightly. "I see. I should have realized, senior. This would indeed be an incredible treasure."
The Artifact God finally nodded to herself and looked down at the scale next to her. "I’ll start now. Just watch and try not to disturb me."
Alex nodded and stayed quiet.
The Artifact God used the technique, partially activating her Fire and Metal roots, pouring out aura that belonged to the Dao of Melting and the Dao of Malleability categories. At the same time, the artifact in her hand created an aura that belonged to the Dao of Softness.
The three auras merged together, creating the Reducing Form of the Six Star technique. The three auras were created with such properties that when together, they became entirely inert. Besides suffusing into the material and giving it their properties, they did nothing else.
The Water aura of the Flood Dragon’s scale was kept completely untouched in the end.
She slowly used the technique on the scale, and Alex could barely sense any of it changing. He could feel the existence of the aura inside the solid thing, but beyond that, he could feel nothing.
The scale was just so powerful that even a Celestial’s aura would likely fail to make a dent in it so soon, let alone a Divinity’s. The Artifact God kept doing it again and again, but it felt as though she was trying to pour a glass of water into a large puddle of mud and make it clean as a result.
She would have to bring in an entire river instead.
After what felt like over 2 hours, she finally stopped. She leaned back, wiping her brow as sweat had long since gathered upon it. She then looked down at the scale and frowned.
"God, this is going to take me such a long time," she said with a sigh.
Alex looked down, and if he wasn’t mistaken about the progress, then at her current rate, it would easily take her at least a year to complete this task, and that didn’t even include the time she would have to spend getting the Qi back.
Cultivating alone would take the majority of the time, which meant she was likely going to have to do this for many more years before she was done at all.
"Yeah, I was mistaken," the Artifact God said. "This is not something we’re going to be able to do anytime soon."
Alex looked at the scale and then up at the god. After some time, a thought came to him.
"What if we didn’t rely on you entirely?" Alex asked.
The woman looked toward him with narrowed eyes. "What? Don’t tell me you’re going to help me?" she asked, before looking down. "Honestly, I wouldn’t even say no. But with your Immortal strength, it’s not going to affect much."
Alex could understand that. "I thought so too, senior," he said. "But I do have another option here."
The Artifact God narrowed her eyes. "What option?" she asked.
"What if we created something else to help us?" he asked. "Say, some sort of artifact that creates exactly this aura that we could directly pour onto this scale."
The Artifact God stared at him for a moment. She nodded. "I did think about that briefly, but I don’t think an artifact is going to be that much faster than me. It’s still just Divine Qi, after all."
Alex nodded. "What if we could use Celestial Qi instead?"
"Who’s going to help?" she asked. "All Celestials worry about their Qi, and we can’t just get someone, can we?"
Alex shook his head. "No. But we don’t need any of them. I have another way."
