Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 1870 - 1869 - Trap of Hope

Lind moved before registering the desire. The cloth snapped into his hand and he saw the blood was from Younger Twin. The emaciated figure could not have done it so precisely yet at the same time, he understood the message.

His tears from before now vanished. He saw the dim spark in the ruined face of his Master. He calmed his raging heart and nodded.

[I understand.] The message was now clear. Do not believe that he can rescue the dragon that saved his life. Do not believe that he can restore her to life. The Bastard had baited a hook but thanks to Shattering Fist Eternal, his mind was not as myopic as before.

A weak smile barely appeared on Younger Twin as emerald flames finally engulfed him. The weakened body and soul were dispersed but Lind knew they did not enter the cycle of rebirth.

A small gem suddenly appeared and he snatched it up. The trap was double edged. The Bastard not only held out Lanbao but the Younger Twin as well.

Lind now had a piece of his Master that could reconstitute itself if he got the rest. Unlike the souls reborn via Karu's Talent, the Eternal Realm cultivators were intact.

Their previous versions were merged into the originals just like the Bastard. Only a handful of Eternal Realm cultivators were affected and had been consumed by the Bastard.

Lind floated in the darkness for a long time before he took a long breath.

The piece of cloth in his hand was just a message and the Bastard knew he would see the trap. Still, that was not what bothered him. Even if he knew it was a trap, what did the Bastard hope to achieve?

He still had no idea where he was. The Bastard had vanished once more and he could be anywhere in the dark. Yet, he had clearly kept the Younger Twin in a place hidden from them all.

He held up the dark amber jewel and contemplated what he could do. The Tapestry Mystery seemed to hold the answer but it felt like he should hold off.

If he could find the Bastard, it would only tell him a location loaded with traps. No matter how powerful Lind had become, the Bastard was far older than him. He had absorbed the various versions over the many iteration attempts.

Unlike Lind, the Bastard had a vast array of experience to pull on that dwarfed his in every way but one. Lind had successfully killed the version that rose up in his current life.

According to the various Eternal Realm cultivators working with him, that had only happened a handful of times and even then, the dead soul was pulled into the Bastard. The version he had destroyed had nothing left to give.

The Bastard had cut it off himself yet he still gained nothing after Lind killed it.

Now, that being that ruthlessly cut off a version of himself had baited the hook. He was not dumb, sadly, so it meant that even if Lind ignored it, something worse would come along.

It would get to the point he had no choice but to respond.

He quickly returned to his hold and called his family with a few of the Eternal Realm cultivators.

The group quickly gathered and he could tell they saw he was disturbed.

After all arrived, he engraved sigils into the air and a thick isolation barrier appeared. It cut off all possible communication and shocked Violet Cloud with its power.

"I will not dance around the subject, my Master was partially consumed by the Bastard and used to tempt me." He explained the rest and showed the blood engraved cloth. His wives became angry but the Eternal Realm cultivators were cold.

"Boy, you know this is a trap. Do not even consider it!" Goldthorn did not hold back and none could deny his words but Lind knew it would not be so easy.

"When he comes for you, or the others, what should I do?" The question made all pause in fear. They wanted to say his defenses would protect them but the Bastard had proven resilient.

Further, it was obvious that the current opening move was only a beginning. If Lind did not respond, the obvious next move was to go after the current survivors.

"How long until he moves?" Chu spoke up. Her black and emerald eyes glimmered with bloodlust. Lind knew Divine Realm cultivators stood no chance against the Bastard but he appreciated her drive.

"Unknown. I can't find him but I have a lead." He produced the dark amber gem and many narrowed their eyes as they recognized the partial aura of an Eternal Realm cultivator.

The revelation left many shocked but also cold. The Bastard had baited his trap well. It also revealed how far the Bastard was willing to go.

If the Younger Twin was so easily left barely alive, who else would be used next? Spirit Caller then stood up.

"Please give me the gem." Lind paused for a long time but then nodded and handed it over. She took it and carefully examined it. A pained expression flashed over her before she looked at him.

Lind waved it off as he knew what she wanted to say. The soul of the Younger Twin had been ripped apart just enough to keep the body intact and no more.

She continued and a very faint blue line appeared. Lind waited and did not dare examine it. The Bastard knew him too well.

She paled before looking at him.

"There is something out there. It does not fully reveal itself but I can tell where it is." He nodded but turned to the others.

They all seemed to share the same thought. It was a trap and he should avoid it.

Lind agreed to a point.

"I will finish filling my skull. I will then be at the peak of the Demi Tier." No one could argue that. If he advanced beyond, he would leave them all behind. At that moment, they would be at the mercy of the Bastard.

Lind exhaled and explained his next steps.

"I am close to completing my mind and world for my Harmonic Core. I will need sparring sessions to test my power and I will need to be pushed to my limits." While many nodded, some seemed confused at his formal tone.

Only Spirit Caller understood. She had stagnated since moving her Harmonic Core to her mind. With Lind's recently revealed gains, she found inspiration!

She had to completely solidify her mind and then she could advance!

Lind smiled and said nothing more. He then outlined his plans. He wanted to test his strength with their help.

He wanted an army to challenge him!

"We can gather enough people but can you truly withstand us?" Violet Cloud spoke up and he smiled at her.

"I will succeed or fail. Both will tell me many things." His confidence made the old woman smile before she nodded.

Lind was about to resume cultivation when Karu came to him.

"He had tried this before." While she had transformed her Talent, she retained a few memories of her other selves. Lind was about to ask but paused. He already knew it was a trap.

No new information would change what came as if she knew where the Bastard was, she would tell him.

Still, he understood. The method was not new. The Bastard had used it before and Lind knew the visits to his future self preceded such final moments.

He could go but the result would be the same. He would fall and become fodder for the Bastard.

So what could they do? The answer was obvious. Help him grow stronger!

Lind was about to suggest plans when Lysanna stepped forward. She was only an Immortal but her words had weight as his wife.

"I know Lanbao is a scar on your heart, husband, but the Bastard clearly would know and use it. So why walk into it? Why not ignore it?" Many would think she was cold but Lind knew she was trying the same as Goldthorn.

She wanted him to buy time.

Time was the factor between victory and defeat in her mind. Lind knew it was not that simple.

The Bastard would attack again and the next time would leave him wanting if he was not prepared. The last 2 times had been surprise attacks but neither had killed the Bastard.

It proved that the Bastard had a resistance to his harmony and a place to recover. Those 2 facts left him with a caution outlook.

"Even if I stayed away, the Bastard will come. It will be my family or friends as the next target. No matter what, he will goad me into coming to him. It is better if I can find his base if possible." Star Caller nodded and focused on the gem even harder than before.

Violet energies danced in the air until a strong bar shot out into the distance. She paled and coughed up a little blood before handing the gem back.

"There is a structure in the darkness. It is alien but powerful. I can tell you where it is." Lind bowed low to her and began to plan.

A trap or not, they had to strike. If they could strip away the safe haven, the Bastard would slowly be chipped away at. It was a plan but Lind did not assume it would work out.

He needed plans within plans.
