Eternal Life: I Can Sell Everything
Chapter 295 - 288: Nowhere to Be FoundFor the time that followed, Song Ciwan gave up on exploring other paths and focused on climbing to the upper layers of the giant tree.
In just a short while, she had climbed up another five layers.
Along the way, she hadn’t forgotten that her main mission in the Demon Realm was to find Luming Grass. However, Song Ciwan suddenly realized she had a serious problem: she didn’t know what Luming Grass looked like!
Back when she was in the Seeking Immortal Tower, she’d forgotten to ask White Dragon Head what Luming Grass actually looked like.
The oversight wasn’t catastrophic, but it wasn’t trivial either. After pondering for a moment, Song Ciwan realized she had no immediate solution, so she decided to simply put it out of her mind.
In fact, if this Demon Tree truly was the Jian Wood, and if its peak really held portals to various realms, then Song Ciwan wouldn’t necessarily have to return to the Spirit Realm from the Demon Realm, only to then find a way from the Spirit Realm back to Great Zhou, back to the Mortal World.
Given all the rewards she had gained so far, she could go straight from the Demon Realm back to the Mortal World. This trip could already be considered a massive success.
’As for the Foundation Establishment Pill—I never planned on taking it anyway. I just wanted to play it by ear, get my hands on it first, and see what secrets it held.’
’If I can’t get it, I can’t get it. What’s the big deal?’
Her perspective broadened with this line of thinking.
After weighing the pros and cons, Song Ciwan determined her priorities. First, she needed to see if there were truly portals at the top of the giant tree. Second, she had to search for the Second Young Master along the way.
’If I find him, I’ll find a way to kill him right here in the Demon Realm!’
The Demon Realm was no place to linger. Song Ciwan hoped to get as much done as possible in the shortest amount of time.
Notably, as she climbed the Demon Tree, Song Ciwan took all the withered branches and dead leaves she had just collected—including a random assortment of mosses and ashes—placed them on the Heaven and Earth Scale’s Balance Plate, and sold them.
[You have sold Demonized Ancient Divine Wood, withered leaves and broken branches of the Jian Wood, Covering Wood Moss, and Demon Spirit Ashes... You have received: Evil Spirit Cold Sand, three taels.]
Evil Spirit Cold Sand: A Three-star Level refining material. It is a special material used for refining various Magical Artifacts with negative attributes.
’An Artifact Refining material, Evil Spirit Cold Sand!’
’This haul isn’t bad. It’s a Three-star Level refining material, after all. If I sold it in the outside world, it would probably be worth quite a few Primordial Pearls.’
’But that isn’t the point. The point is, the Heaven and Earth Scale gave me specific information about this giant tree from the Demon Realm: Jian Wood!’
’This tree really is the Jian Wood!’
Guessing the tree was the Jian Wood was one thing, but receiving confirmation that it truly was the Jian Wood felt completely different.
Legend claimed the Jian Wood was a tree that reached the heavens. Its branches, leaves, and fruit were all considered priceless treasures.
The main trunk of the Jian Wood was said to be as hard as a celestial pillar and could not be felled by mortal hands.
It represented humanity’s ability to reach the gods, to connect with the immortals, to possess boundless potential, and to see the Heaven Beyond Heaven, the World Beyond the World.
The divine wonders of the Jian Wood were beyond description. Yet, the one before her now had been subjected to Demonization.
’Why would the Jian Wood undergo Demonization? What kind of being, what sort of power, could transform such a Divine Wood into this sinister form, brimming with Demonic Qi?’
’What other specific changes came with this Demonization?’
A thousand questions raced through Song Ciwan’s mind.
There was no one to answer her questions, but as she continued climbing the Jian Wood’s main trunk, Song Ciwan saw three more images appear on the bark.
The content of one was similar to something she had seen before, showing numerous Cultivators having their Golden Cores carved out of them while they were still alive.
The only difference was that the Cultivators undergoing this process looked slightly different from the ones in the previous image.
These two images, with similar content but different subjects, seemed to suggest that at different times and in different places, different people were all doing the same thing—carving out Golden Cores!
An indescribable, ghostly, and evil aura emanated ominously from these images that flickered in and out of view.
Of the other two images, one depicted lightning gathering in the sky. A Cultivator was undergoing a Thunder Tribulation, but hiding behind the thunderclouds was a shocking sight: a grinning, viciously fanged face!
It wasn’t a human face. Its fangs grew inverted, its bristly hair was garishly colored, and an endless darkness seemed to stretch out from behind the monstrous head.
The final image showed countless mortals in tattered clothes, covered in wounds. Some carried bundles on their backs while others pushed handcarts, trudging along a desolate road in a great migration.
In the sky behind them, the corner of a robe seemed to flutter faintly. It appeared to be the afterimage of a group of Cultivators.
It was difficult to tell, however, whether these Cultivators were driving the mortals onward or... escorting them and covering their retreat.
For some reason, looking at this scene filled Song Ciwan with an overwhelming sense of sorrow.
It was a sorrow that stretched forth from the distant past, piercing through the veil of time and space, causing even Song Ciwan—separated by countless worlds—to resonate with it in this moment.
Song Ciwan quickly moved away from the section of bark etched with this image, climbing to the next layer of the Jian Wood.
On a whim, she flicked out a wisp of qi, shaping it into a hand with her Qi Absorption Technique, and plucked a bellflower from the branches above.
JINGLE JINGLE—
The bellflower chimed, and the piercing sound of the Demon Bell threatened to bore straight through Song Ciwan’s mind.
The Heart Demon Seed in the center of Song Ciwan’s Sea of Consciousness stirred and absorbed the demonic sound.
No longer hindered, the Qi Absorption Technique instantly plucked the bellflower!
The scattered leaves around the bellflower immediately began to rustle, and slender vines transformed into sharp blades, shooting toward Song Ciwan with a series of SWISHES.
Song Ciwan formed a large hand with her Qi Absorption Technique, snapped all of the attacking vines and leaves, and then, in the same motion, collected everything into her Heaven and Earth Scale.
Before long, the nearby branches and leaves fell silent once more.
Song Ciwan continued her ascent, taking the opportunity to place everything she had just gathered onto the Balance Plate to sell.
[You have sold an Echo Bell from the Demonized Jian Wood, shattered withered leaves, and broken fragments of Yellow Springs Vine... You have received: ten Ten Thousand Miles Sound Transmission Talismans.]
From then on, as Song Ciwan continued climbing to the upper reaches of the Jian Wood, she also began picking Echo Bells along the way.
She didn’t pick the Echo Bells from every layer, only the ones that would jingle without causing any images to appear on the trunk of the Demonized Jian Wood.
After picking them, Song Ciwan would accumulate them within the Heaven and Earth Scale.
After climbing another thirteen layers and collecting a total of seven Echo Bells, Song Ciwan finally operated the Heaven and Earth Scale, selling the seven bells along with an assorted mix of broken leaves and vines.
[You have sold seven Echo Bells from the Demonized Jian Wood, along with various scraps of broken leaves and withered branches... You have received: ten Spirit-Seeking Talismans.]
Spirit-Seeking Talisman: Burn this talisman and call out a name to find any living creature.
’A living creature?’
Song Ciwan’s eyes immediately lit up. ’Does that include Luming Grass? And what about the Second Young Master?’
