Eternal Life: I Can Sell Everything
Chapter 296 - 289: Leaving Nothing Behind is a StyleThe Jian Wood’s height was unknowable.
Song Ciwan stood on a wide branch at an unknown height, lit a Spirit-Seeking Talisman, and as the smoke began to rise, she whispered, "Luming Grass, go!"
The Spirit-Seeking Talisman dissolved into a wisp of nearly transparent, curling smoke, which immediately snaked its way upward.
Song Ciwan focused her senses and immediately felt a response imbued with spirituality.
’The Spirit-Seeking Talisman really can point the way to the Luming Grass!’
All Song Ciwan had to do was follow this wisp of smoke to find the nearest patch of Luming Grass.
She immediately followed the smoke, climbing another three levels up the main trunk of the Jian Wood.
After three levels, the smoke suddenly veered behind her to the right. Song Ciwan immediately turned to follow, traveling for another stretch.
The scenery ahead gradually grew bizarre and strange. The Jian Wood’s branches on this level were very different from what she had seen below. The boughs still stretched out, as wide as ever. At a glance, if one were to treat these crisscrossing branches as roads, the narrowest were at least fifty feet across, while the truly broad ones could span a total of one or two hundred feet.
Vines hung down from above. Beneath the thick green canopy, specks of golden light floated in the deep, emerald gloom.
Song Ciwan continuously circulated the Sutra of Sitting and Forgetting, maintaining her Inner Breathing while deploying the Xuanwu Mountain Observation Seal for protection. Her entire body seemed to transform into a wisp of light smoke, floating weightlessly behind the vaporous trail of the Spirit-Seeking Talisman.
Further ahead, strange and dilapidated houses occasionally appeared on either side of the roads formed by the crisscrossing branches—
’Yes, houses! The dilapidated, ruined kind that looked as if they had been abandoned for ages and eroded by the passage of countless years.’
’What kind of creature would build houses here in the Demon Realm? The ancient Human Race? Or sapient beings from the Demon Realm?’
Song Ciwan had been in the Demon Realm for some time now, and during this period, almost all the creatures of the Demon Realm she had encountered were non-sentient. They had Cultivation and power, but they were also ruled by their bestial and Demonic Natures.
It seemed their minds contained nothing beyond instincts for evil, Devouring, and chaos.
To be frank, they couldn’t even compare to some of the Low Level Demon Beasts Song Ciwan had encountered in the past.
Song Ciwan still vividly remembered the Mouse Demon Ah Gua, whom she had met at the Xu Family estate in Su Yang City. Back then, Ah Gua’s strength had been just shy of the Spirit Communication Level, yet it possessed profound spirituality and was capable of love and loyalty.
’If it hadn’t been covered in a mouse’s skin, who could say it lacked humanity?’
’So, did Demon Spirits with lingering humanity once exist in this Demon Realm?’
Song Ciwan followed the smoke for a while longer. Suddenly, she saw a shallow valley formed by a depression in the crisscrossing branches ahead. In the very center of this valley stood a relatively well-preserved building!
It was a building that blended styles of steel and fantasy, somewhat similar to the mechanical houses she had seen in Illusory Nether City.
Both mechanical and classical.
However, the building before her was even more dilapidated.
The iron plates forming the walls were completely rusted over. Some were covered in green moss, while others were caked with yellowish-brown rust stains...
It wasn’t just made of iron plates; there seemed to be copper plates and other metals as well.
Patches of green copper rust appeared in some spots, and reddish-brown cross-sections were visible in others...
The combination of various strange colors made the peculiar house seem both ancient and dreamlike. Song Ciwan even had the odd feeling she was looking at something out of hard science fiction.
’For example, those things on the roof, pointing diagonally forward... do they look like rockets? Or cannon barrels?’
’And that thing surrounding the doors and windows... is it like a half-raised electric fence?’
...
Song Ciwan stopped a short distance from the house, deeply shaken.
Her heart began to pound uncontrollably again. She cursed her own lack of a bold and rich imagination, unable to solve the mystery before her.
This mechanical aesthetic gave her the strange feeling that she hadn’t awakened her Innate Wisdom from a past life in a Mythical Realm, but had instead been transported to some futuristic, sci-fi world.
Her hand unconsciously went to her chest as she recalled the various Iron Puppets she had seen on the streets of Pinglan City. Then, Song Ciwan exhaled a long breath.
’The Puppetry Technique has existed since ancient times.’
’The mechanical arts of the Mo Family are famous throughout the world.’
’It shouldn’t be so surprising to see mechanical Puppets in a Mythical Realm.’
Song Ciwan paused before the mechanical house for a moment. Just as she was about to follow the smoke from the Spirit-Seeking Talisman, she noticed something. The wisp of smoke bypassed the house, flew toward its rear, and then disappeared into the depths of the sunken valley of branches.
A spiritual sensation washed over her, and Song Ciwan understood. The Luming Grass was right behind this house!
And the house happened to be completely obscuring the valley in the branches.
To get the Luming Grass, Song Ciwan had two choices: enter the house and pass through it, hoping for a back door, or fly over it. In any case, no matter which path she chose, she would have to get close to the structure.
’If I pass through it, who knows what kind of strange dangers might be lurking inside.’
As for flying over, to be honest, even though it was a derelict house that appeared inanimate, Song Ciwan had a strange premonition. She could feel a chilling, baleful aura coming from the cannon- or giant-arrow-like objects on the roof!
At her level of Cultivation, when facing the unknown, the absence of a sense of danger didn’t guarantee safety. But when a sense of danger did arise, it almost certainly meant real peril lay ahead.
Thus, with a cautious mindset, Song Ciwan decided to go for broke. She released the Heaven and Earth Scale.
The Balance Plate spun rapidly as Song Ciwan poured her True Qi into it, manipulating it to directly absorb the house before her!
The instant they made contact, Song Ciwan felt a powerful rebound force.
Just as she thought. Although the house had been corroded by time, perhaps some residual power remained within it, or perhaps the object had undergone some form of Demonization over the long eons. Despite being lifeless, it clearly possessed instincts for defense and Attack.
On the rooftop, the cannon barrels seemed to be turning. CLICK-CLACK.
In a flash, Song Ciwan thrust her hand forward. An invisible force, as overwhelming as a landslide and a tsunami, erupted from her limbs, muscles, and bones.
Her Mastery of the Infinite Power Divine Technique worked its magic again. The Heaven and Earth Scale tipped forward, instantly creating a massive suction that tore the house from its foundations.
BOOM!
A huge cavity was left behind, and the house was finally drawn into the Heaven and Earth Scale.
