Kaelen was puzzled after taking a bathroom break to find the girl with the cyan-colored hair, who’d stolen the credit for his kill, standing in the elevator with another girl whose face looked familiar.

"Are you getting in or what?" Black Rose asked in an annoyed tone, which made him raise a brow, but he stepped in anyway.

The doors closed shut with the three of them inside, and the silent elevator quickly began its descent.

Kaelen suddenly felt the undisguised gaze of someone on him and turned to see the curly-haired girl silently staring at him, possibly checking him out. When she locked eyes with him and realized she’d been caught, she didn’t shy away and instead gave him a cute wave, which Kaelen returned with a forced smile.

"Your face looks unfamiliar. Are you from the city?" Cindra suddenly asked with innocent curiosity, but her question made the elevator fall into a deathly silence the next moment.

Black Rose turned to get a better look at the man, sizing him up with a scrutinizing gaze.

From the broadcast, the mysterious SSS-ranker had been wearing an all-black outfit with a hat to obscure his face. But the man in the elevator was wearing a gray jumpsuit and wasn’t making any effort to hide his appearance.

"Do you know the faces of everyone in this city?" Kaelen calmly asked the next moment, breaking the awkward silence.

Black Rose looked away, losing interest.

"Oh, that makes sense. But you do know me, right?" Cindra asked with a flirtatious smile.

Kaelen sized her up from head to toe, and when her appearance didn’t ring any bells, he asked, "Who are you?"

Cindra’s expression immediately cracked, and she looked like she’d been hit by a bus for a moment before she quickly recovered and laughed in amusement, slapping his arm as though he’d cracked a joke.

"You’re so funny. How can you possibly not know me?" she said amidst laughter.

"I really don’t know," Kaelen replied plainly, awkwardly stopping her in her tracks.

"W-Wait, really? Do you know her?" She turned to point at Black Rose, and though the latter pretended not to care, Kaelen could see her ear prick up like a rabbit’s.

"I think I’ve seen her on TV once."

"You’re so weird."

"What?"

The elevator doors slid open at that moment. Black Rose was the first to step out as she quickly scanned the crowd in the lobby. But before Cindra could step out, Kaelen suddenly grabbed her arm.

"Wait. Do you know where the nearest real estate company is around here?" Kaelen asked curiously.

He had already transferred one billion Evolution Points from his EP bank into his new account and wanted to buy a house right away.

"Oh, so you need my help now," Cindra said jokingly like an angry wife before she smiled mischievously.

"I’m busy right now, but..." she said and grabbed Kaelen’s arm before tracing her fingers across it as numbers appeared where her finger touched. "You can call me later, and I’ll drive you there," she said with a wink.

But before Kaelen could reply, Black Rose grabbed her friend’s arm and pulled her out of the elevator.

"I apologize if this woman is making you feel uncomfortable. Have a nice day," Black Rose said as though she’d recited that line a hundred times, and began dragging Cindra away.

"Ahh~ You’re hurting me, Rose."

Kaelen was left there perplexed before looking down at the digits on his arm. He was about to wipe them off when a second thought crossed his mind.

He decided to ignore them and stepped out of the bank. The sun was making its descent in the west, and it was already getting dark.

Kaelen realized he didn’t have time to go on a shopping spree that day, so he hailed a private cab and disappeared right under the noses of everyone who was searching for him outside.

"Where are we going?" the cab driver asked.

"Please take me to the nearest hotel," Kaelen replied after a moment’s deliberation.

The cab driver nodded in understanding before driving away from the bank premises.

Then a thought crossed Kaelen’s mind. He couldn’t possibly just lounge in the hotel that night doing nothing. Every moment he spent in real life was Evolution Points being lost in-game, and millions of dollars in real life as well.

"Excuse me. Can you drop me off at the nearest arcade where I can purchase a new gaming headgear?" Kaelen quickly asked the driver.

"Huh? Are you new in this city?" the cab driver asked as he glanced at Kaelen through the rearview mirror.

"W-What?" Kaelen was surprised and confused.

First it was Cindra, and now it was the cab driver. What was he doing wrong?

"Ah, I’m sorry. It’s just that you asked me to drop you off at a hotel, and if you plan on spending the night there, you can rent a gaming pod to use for as long as you stay there or purchase one outright," the cab driver carefully explained.

"Ah, is that so?" Kaelen replied in understanding but didn’t say anything further.

This made him realize one thing: he had to quickly learn more about the stronghold.

He could always say he was a new awakener from the slums, but that could contradict the story he was selling of a mysterious SSS-rank awakener.

Until then, he had to interact with people as little as possible.

He paid with his card and tipped the cab driver handsomely.

"Thank you for the ride."

Then he turned around to face the tall skyscraper with the glowing sign at its entrance:

King’s Hotel.

He exhaled softly before stepping into the hotel. He walked straight to the reception desk and got straight to the point.

"I’d like to book a room and rent a gaming set," he said to the receptionist, who smiled professionally.

"How long do you plan on staying, and would you like to opt for the full-option gaming set?"

Kaelen paused in deliberation. Last time, it had felt like only a few days in-game, only for him to realize a whole month had passed. He didn’t know if the same thing might happen again, or even for longer.

"I’m not sure. I’d like to make a full month’s deposit. If I leave earlier, I get a refund. If I stay longer, add that to my tab. Let’s go with the full-option gaming set."

"That’ll be 150,000 dollars, sir. Cash or transfer?"

Kaelen swiped his card without hesitation.

With over one billion dollars in his account, one hundred and fifty thousand didn’t make a dent in his balance. He quickly took his key card and disappeared into the elevator.

After Kaelen left, he didn’t realize the pair eyes which followed his back into the elevator. It belonged to beautiful red haired whose presence alone made people look twice.

"Stephanie, are you okay?" A petite girl who was with the beauty asked, when she noticed her new friend wasn’t listening to her non-stop yapping.

"Huh? It’s nothing." Stephanie quickly returned her gaze to her friend, but subconsciously stared at the leaving elevator.

That natural scent... she was familiar it. She hadn’t seen the face of the man, but had overhead the amount he paid for a room:

One hundred and fifty thousand dollars?!

After hearing that amount of money being paid without flinching, she didn’t need to see the face to be absolutely certain it wasn’t the same person she had in mind.

But for some reasons, she still felt anxious.

"Don’t stress yourself too much okay? You have a better at getting accepted by the White Vanguard Guild tomorrow, than I do." The other girl said with weary smile, but Stephanie only hummed absentmindedly in reply.

It didn’t take Kaelen long to arrive at the floor indicated on his key card and locate his room.

His room was lavishly designed, with a balcony that overlooked the entire city and its nightlife. He also found a full-body gaming pod with the Evolution Online logo on it and realized it was the full-option gaming set he had opted for.

He was ecstatic, and the thought of entering the game once more excited him.

He didn’t waste any more time and quickly took a hot shower. He stepped out and ordered a quick bite, and without waiting for his food to digest, he jumped into the gaming pod and watched as it sealed him inside.

A scentless gas permeated the well-lit interior, and his vision went dark as he slowly lost consciousness.
