"I know what you’re thinking. Buy a military-grade private jet, pay a mercenary pilot ten times their salary to fly you to the Capital," President Hunter said, as though he’d seen through Kaelen. "But you’re forgetting that the Capital isn’t Stronghold 5, where you feel you might’ve made useful connections. Stronghold 1 is different. Whatever you are here means nothing to them there. You need a level of influence and connection to even apply for an invitation, and there’s a 90% chance your request will be turned down because the Emperor doesn’t know you and doesn’t care if you’re an SSS-ranker."

President Hunter said as he stood up and moved to his bar to pour himself another drink.

Kaelen thought about it for a moment and realized the president was right. He didn’t know anybody in the Capital, unless he was willing to expose his identity, which was out of the question.

He might be strong enough as a Tier 9 lifeform, but not strong enough to take on the entire S+-ranked forces of the nine Strongholds.

"Are you saying there’s no other way to go about this?" he asked sharply.

The president pointed out the flaws in his plan but never said it was impossible.

President Hunter didn’t answer immediately as he poured himself a glass. "Every top guild leader is given a special invitation with a limited number of slots to onboard the guild members of their choice. Do with that information as you wish."

Kaelen was quick to catch on.

The president had probably seen the clip of Kaelen and Black Rose flying around and was certain he had some kind of connection with the young guild leader. If he could infiltrate the White Vanguard Guild as a new recruit and prove himself to be an outstanding fighter, the chances of Black Rose onboarding him were high, and even higher if she knew it was him—Idris Thomas.

As the most wanted Slime across Evolution Online, it was impossible to pull that off without getting caught. But that did not apply to Kaelen, who had the [Mimic Slime] evolution attribute and could take on the form of any beast or race he devoured.

Kaelen finished his drink in one shot and stood up, staring out the floor-to-ceiling window.

"Thanks for the information, President Hunter. What do you want in return?" he asked calmly.

President Hunter smiled warmly. "I honestly want nothing from you. I only made that deal so you could be indebted to me because I’ve seen the potential in you, boy. I might never have to use it, but know that you owe me one."

Kaelen stood there for a moment, and without saying another word, he turned and left the president’s office.

As soon as he got into his car, he dialed Cindra’s contact. The phone rang for a while before it went to voicemail.

He didn’t bother calling her again, knowing she might be in the game. And if she wasn’t, she’d probably call back when she saw that he had called.

On his way home, Kaelen made a quick stop at a five-star restaurant to order takeout. When he arrived home, he decided to eat something as he went over his plan before entering the game.

One thing he noticed during the 100th-floor Tower of Belmont battle was that the majority of the forces the top guilds had brought along were superior races.

If he could get a humanoid race and choose an ability out of the many he had heard about to fake it as his innate Talent, he could easily get into the guild, hiding most of his strength but revealing just enough to make him superior to every other new recruit in his batch.

The chances of a top guild like White Vanguard bringing a new recruit along to the biggest expedition in the game were low, but if he played his cards right, he should be able to pull it off.

And if that didn’t work... there was always a Plan B.

By the time Kaelen had gone over the plan, he had eaten to his fill and put the leftovers in the fridge before he went upstairs to enter the game.

[Welcome back to Evolution Online]

He spawned at the same spot where he’d left off and quickly activated his [Sharp Senses], spreading them across the forest in search of a target.

The forest was mostly dominated by feral beasts, but it didn’t take long for him to spot a group of superior races hunting down a mammoth like cavemen.

He activated [Titan Burst], and the earth cracked beneath him as he shot forward like a cannonball.

The group of five, consisting of one human, two elves, and two dwarves, was still trying to corner the behemoth beast when an object flashed by at an extremely fast speed, and the mammoth suddenly dropped to the ground with a heavy thud.

"What just happened?"

"Did we... kill it?"

The group questioned themselves in surprise and confusion when Kaelen jumped out into the open, standing between them and the mammoth.

"What the hell is a slime doing..."

"Wait... is that the infamous Slime, Kaelen Cross?" the male elf asked as his eyes widened in surprise.

Kaelen was surprised that they recognized him and expected more people to do so everywhere he went, but before he could speak, one of the dwarves dropped his weapon.

"Oh, hell nah."

He turned and quickly bolted into the forest as fast as his little legs could take him.

Kaelen found it amusing but didn’t bother chasing after him. After all, he had no intention of choosing the dwarven race out of all the superior races he could choose from.

"Don’t move. Anyone else who runs will forever regret playing this game," one of the female elves spoke boldly to the rest of the team before turning to face Kaelen.

"I know who you are. If you wanted to kill us all, you would’ve done that already, so state your business or move out of the way," she said authoritatively, making Kaelen pause to assess her from head to toe, wondering where she got the audacity.

"Fair point. I’ll go straight to the point then. Why don’t we play a game?"

"If one of you is willing to sacrifice themselves for the rest of you, then you get to live. How about that?" Kaelen asked with a wide grin.

"What kind of messed-up game is that? Before you act on those stupid thoughts, let me warn you: my father is the Governor of Stronghold 3, and my brother is the leader of the Midnight Owl Guild. If you dare touch me, you’ll be hunted for life across this game..."

Kaelen had stopped listening to her ranting the moment she mentioned her father was the Governor of Stronghold 3.

The same man that drove the sword into his father’s chest.
