"Thank you for saving our village, young adventurer. Here’s your recommendation letter for your guild."

After rescuing the missing villagers, Kaelen embarked on a journey to the next location, with a long face and 200,000 merit points to his name.

He didn’t want to think about it and moved in silence, but he quickly noticed the beasts in the forest were steadily increasing. This told him players were starting to return to the game and reminded him he was running out of time.

On arriving outside the cursed mine, where his job was to investigate and annihilate the anomalies inside the mine, he first thought about blowing up the entire mine, but remembered that would make its walls collapse and risk failing the mission, so Kaelen had no choice but to enter the mine and do it the old-fashioned way. But the moment he crossed the entrance, he instantly regretted that decision.

"Oh, c’mon."

A dungeon couldn’t exist without a final boss.

It didn’t matter if it was a final boss or hidden boss. As long as a boss monster was defeated, the game rewarded the player and acknowledged their guild as well through merit points.

It was too late to turn back now, as the moment he crossed the barrier, he couldn’t leave until the final boss was defeated.

What had happened had happened. Kaelen didn’t dwell on it and decided to see the dungeon to the end. Except this time around, he was definitely going to find a loophole around defeating the final boss without killing it.

The first skeleton stumbled out of the dark with a pair of glowing orbs for eyes, and several other pairs appeared in the dark, approaching with their rusted swords and spears.

"Alright. Let’s have it your way," Kaelen said as the earth burst beneath his feet and he shot forward like a cannon.

He didn’t waste any time with Tier 3 undead skeletons, as he activated [Titan Burst] and charged straight through the horde, shattering their bones and cores in one swift strike as he made his way deeper into the Tier 4 dungeon.

Not a single undead knight stood a chance to even slow him down, and it didn’t take long for Kaelen to arrive at the innermost chamber of the mine, leaving shattered bones in his wake.

As soon as he stepped into the innermost chamber, lit up by glowing crystals filled with corrupted energy, there was no enemy in sight, but the scattered armour pieces around the cavern were starting to move on their own, as they slowly began merging and converging into a lich knight.

The final boss.

Kaelen didn’t sit around and wait for it to fully merge. He grabbed a greatsword from his inventory, as an alternative to a shovel, which he didn’t have, and chose the perfect spot around the cavern to start digging.

The morphing lich knight might be fast, but Kaelen’s digging was even faster.

He had been thinking about it, and instead of trapping the boss monster inside one of his World Authority Fragments again, Kaelen chose to bury it instead, since it was an undead type.

Trapping the monster with him simply meant that whenever he killed it, as long as he was still registered with the White Vanguard Guild, he couldn’t escape the 100,000 merit points.

So he came up with the idea to bury the final boss so deep in the ground that it counted as defeating it, and he wouldn’t have to deal with it ever again.

The lich knight fully assembled and grabbed its midnight blade.

"I AM THE BONE OF MY SWORD—huh?" It stopped mid-sentence when it realized there was no enemy in sight.

But when it turned around, it saw a strange hole in the ground that kept spitting up debris, adding to the mountain of stone and debris to the side of the pit.

It didn’t know how to react to this for a second before stepping forward to investigate the strange hole. But on getting closer, the debris being thrown out of the pit suddenly stopped.

It paused in its steps as well, but after a while of nothing happening, it took another step forward when a loud bang came from behind it, and it quickly spun around to see a coffin completely made out of stone and a man standing behind it.

Kaelen didn’t give the lich knight time to react or make sense of what was happening when he reached into his inventory and pulled out a Mythic-tier skill book.

Tomb of Zaza.

Rippp—

He ripped its pages apart, and the skill book roared to life, unleashing an endless line of bandages that latched onto its target and began wrapping it up like a mummy, sealing its mouth shut in a second before it could even let out a scream.

The struggling lich knight suddenly tripped over its tightly bound legs, falling straight into the stone coffin, before Kaelen slid a stone slab over it and kicked it into the hell’s deep grave he’d dug, before taking out his makeshift shovel once more and filling the hole back up to the top with stones and debris.

[You have cleared the cursed mine of the dead]

Kaelen grinned widely as he wiped the beads of sweat off his forehead.

"This was harder than I thought."

But it was worth all the labor.

No server announcement, no rigged merit points, three missions bagged, and he was ready to return to the guild with the most absurd story the world has ever heard.

He looked around the cavern and realized his job wasn’t done yet. He had to mine the crystals and send them back to the guild as proof of completing the mission, and to also permanently solve the undead curse in the mine.

He didn’t have a pickaxe, but he still had his ’shovel’ with him.

With a powerful swing of the broad sword across the cavern walls, the crystals fell to the ground, and Kaelen packed them all up and exited the cave, inhaling the fresh air outside as he thought to himself.

"It’s finally over."

That was when a thought suddenly crossed his mind.

"Wait a damn minute..."
