Evolution Online: My 10,000× Reward System Multiplies Everything

Chapter 62: You have killed the World Calamity Devourer!

That’s right.

Kaelen wasn’t entirely certain the Primordial flame could take out the nightmare shadow in one hit, so he summoned the World Authority Fragment just as the dense mana momentarily turned the fireball into a black hole.

By the time the fireball hit the nightmare shadow, Kaelen had already summoned them both into his domain and used the cover of the explosion to create an aftermath.

From that moment onwards, any attack the nightmare shadow used could be controlled by him. The banshee scream was real, but never even got to him. And the staff he’d dropped had only been an illusion. It had long been replaced by the real one now sitting in his inventory.

The reason Kaelen did all this was to make the nightmare shadow believe it was fighting in reality, because if it knew it had been trapped in his domain, who said it couldn’t break out of it?

The World Authority Fragment was only a Divine-Tier item, and this beast had survived a Primordial fireball.

As soon as Kaelen revealed this, and the nightmare shadow realized it had been tricked, it began struggling fiercely against the reality walls Kaelen had used to trap it, and the cracks were starting to spread across the void.

"Not so fast." Kaelen shrunk the walls around the beast to compress it, like he was trying to crush it. This only made the nightmare shadow even more enraged, but Kaelen quickly took out the Divine-Tier bow from one of the three statues and aimed it at the beast as he pulled the string. An arrow made entirely of golden light began forming as he pulled the bowstring as far as he could.

The reason he’d compressed the nightmare shadow in between his reality walls was simply because he’d noticed it operated on a life core, just like him, and shrinking its shadow gave away the location of its life core. But Kaelen didn’t release the arrow just yet.

He realized that the golden arrow shone brighter the longer he held it, and its destructive energy grew denser. So Kaelen planned on charging the arrow up as long as he could.

The nightmare shadow didn’t sit around and watch. It began thrashing even wilder in its limited space as it roared ferociously in rage. Its screams began spreading cracks around the walls trapping it, and wider cracks across the void. But Kaelen held, unaffected by its screams, because he had created several barriers stacked against each other between him and the nightmare shadow.

The first barrier suddenly shattered, and the void was starting to fall apart.

Kaelen didn’t move a muscle.

A wide crack was suddenly made in the walls trapping the nightmare shadow, and a shadow tentacle struck it to widen the gap and escape, and the second and third barriers shattered.

Kaelen didn’t move.

The void all around him was starting to fall apart in shards, and the cracks spread across the walls trapping the nightmare shadow had grown incredibly dense, so much so that it was obvious the wall wouldn’t hold a moment longer.

Kaelen still didn’t move.

But the second the walls finally shattered and the nightmare shadow expanded its body—

Kaelen released the string.

Bang—!

Before Kaelen could shield his eyes, he was momentarily blinded as the arrow crossed the distance at a speed that far exceeded that of light and struck the nightmare shadow head-on, sending it flying backwards as it collided with the end of the void and broke out of it.

The entire World Authority Fragment came crashing down as Kaelen and the nightmare shadow were transported to the perfectly preserved temple, and the latter was pinned to the mountain wall, thrashing wildly as it slowly faded into nothingness like an exorcised vengeful spirit.

Kaelen could barely read the notifications when the mental exhaustion and stamina depletion hit him like a speeding truck, and his eyes turned blurry.

At that moment, he managed to look up to see the sun making its ascent, and that was when it hit him.

He’d crashed at evening and spent that and the entire night fighting non-stop, up until that moment.

The exhaustion almost knocked him unconscious, but Kaelen forced himself to stay awake as he ran his eyes across the temple for any other signs of danger, and was just about to return the three items to where he’d taken them from, to have a peaceful sleep, when a loud sound began coming from above.

At first, it sounded distant, and Kaelen couldn’t pinpoint where it was coming from, till a jet came into view and flew past, before it turned around and came back, hovering over the temple.

Kaelen immediately stood on guard as the jet began lowering itself down to the temple, ready to punch a hole through it and everything in it, till it landed outside the temple, and a white-haired man jumped out and paused to stare at Kaelen for a moment.

Kaelen relaxed slightly on seeing President Hunter, but the jet he used to return wasn’t his private jet, which made Kaelen skeptical. But after using his [Sharp Senses], he could tell the man was alone.

"How did you find me?" Kaelen asked.

It was at that moment that President Hunter seemed to return to himself and laughed heartily.

"It doesn’t look like you need any help. I can’t believe I underestimated you after everything, but I couldn’t ignore the fact that you might be fighting for your life out here while I left you behind."

"I was indeed fighting for my life, and you did leave me behind. But you’re late to the party, old man."

President Hunter laughed again. "I’m sorry for being late. I’ll try to be early next time."

"There won’t be a next time." Kaelen said as he took one last glance around the temple before he walked past the man and boarded the jet.

President Hunter didn’t argue as he climbed onto the jet as well and immediately took off.

Kaelen was grateful President Hunter had found him, or he might be spending another night in the wasteland trying to locate which direction led to Stronghold 1.

As much as he was exhausted, he didn’t let himself sleep just yet. Not until he was certain he was safe. But he shifted his attention to the rewards of killing the nightmare shadow.
