Evolutionary Superstar

Chapter 84: Cultured Hooligan

"We get to interact with our viewers?" Lin Haoren asked, pleasantly surprised.

"Absolutely." Director Chen nodded, saying, "Our show always has this segment, though it’s usually planned for later, but I can expedite it for you."

Lin Haoren was also aware of the show’s live-viewer interaction segment.

He just didn’t expect Director Chen to be so accommodating. It almost seemed like he was receiving special treatment.

"Then, please allow me to interact with my fans, Director Chen."

"Eh? Alright."

Although Director Chen felt like Lin Haoren had misspoken, he still acknowledged his choice.

His fans?

Surely he meant Jiang Ruolan’s fans.

Shortly after, Lin Haoren sat facing his designated Camera Operator, and an electronic tablet was handed to him, allowing him to read the comments in his feed.

Lin Haoren wore an excited look. He couldn’t wait to interact with his haters.

After all, haters were still fans. How could there be any hate if there wasn’t any love? He didn’t fear the hatred of Jiang Ruolan’s fans. In fact, he welcomed it.

More than that, he could thrive on it.

As a new face in the entertainment industry, Lin Haoren didn’t fear hatred; he only feared indifference. To have one’s devoted efforts go unnoticed was a sad thing.

Furthermore, Jiang Ruolan’s fans were quite the special group.

He had only teased Jiang Ruolan a little, yet he had attracted such an angry mob.

What could be more unreasonable than this?

Well, interestingly enough, he just wanted to try reasoning with such unreasonable people.

[Lin Haoren, you shameless bastard! How dare you tease Sister Jiang?!]

"Yoho, we have a lively one here. However, I would appreciate it if you maintain some basic decorum. The internet is not a lawless place," Lin Haoren chuckled lightly, completely unaffected by the insult.

Just as the bystanders thought Lin Haoren was going to de-escalate the situation, he added, "After all, if you’re going to insult me, at least make it interesting."

[Hahahaha... The insults from Sister Jiang’s fans really are low-class.]

Many bystanders immediately laughed.

The comment section had been quite unbearable when the angry mob arrived, but the situation took an unexpected turn after Lin Haoren spoke up.

It had become interesting.

At the very least, the bystanders knew they were in for a good show.

Meanwhile, Director Chen and the Production Team were dumbfounded.

Wasn’t Lin Haoren supposed to appease the fans? Why does it seem like he wants to pick a fight with them?

[Who do you think you are, Lin Haoren? How dare you tease Sister Jiang!]

"Please don’t misunderstand. I have the greatest respect for Sister Jiang. It is her fans’ reading comprehension that concerns me."

[Ahhh—! Lin Dog, how dare you insult our intelligence!]

"Did I say that?" Lin Haoren pointed to himself innocently in front of the camera before shrugging, "Besides, isn’t it just teasing? You guys actually made it such a big deal, rushing in here to pick a fight."

"At this point, I feel less like a bully and more like a landlord collecting rent," Lin Haoren said honestly.

[Dammit! You’re nothing but a shameless clown!]

"That’s unfair," Lin Haoren complained, surprising Jiang Ruolan’s fans.

As such, they paused, expecting his apology.

However, Lin Haoren smiled and said, "A clown is employed to entertain people. I’m doing this for free. You should thank me."

[You—!]

Lin Haoren’s response instantly made Jiang Ruolan’s fans livid with rage, and a barrage of insults followed.

However, Lin Haoren took everything in calmly, waiting for the next suitable comment to respond to.

[Lin Dog, you bastard! You have such a foul mouth!]

"I have a foul mouth?" Lin Haoren smiled thoughtfully and said, "That’s strange. I haven’t used a single vulgar word. You guys, on the other hand... Hehehe, quite boring."

[OMG! This guy is so infuriating! You might not have used vulgar words, but you’ve been insulting us!]

"Insulting you? No, no, no, you got it wrong." Lin Haoren shook his head and argued, "I am describing you. If the description happens to resemble an insult, perhaps you should examine the source material?"

[Hahahaha...]

Lin Haoren’s rebuttal immediately sent the bystanders into another fit of laughter.

[What the hell is this guy? He hasn’t cursed once, but everything he says delivers emotional damage. I’m dead, hahahaha...]

[Pftt! Lin Haoren is so interesting. He sounds like a gentleman while verbally beating Sister Jiang’s fans to death.]

[Sister Jiang, control your fans. Don’t provoke Lin Haoren. He has a dictionary. Hahahaha...]

[What am I watching? Hahahaha... To call Lin Haoren a hooligan doesn’t seem quite right, but saying that he isn’t one isn’t quite accurate either.]

[Cultured hooligan, he’s a cultured hooligan! Hahaha... Man, that’s hilarious.]

[Lin Haoren: the only hooligan who can make you reach for a dictionary before you realize you’ve been insulted.]

[Hahahaha... +999]

While the bystanders laughed, Jiang Ruolan’s fans were angered to the point of coughing blood. Their laughter and mockery only rubbed more salt in their wounds.

[Ahhh!!! Lin Dog! Just because you are quite educated, do you think you are better than us?!]

"No, not at all." Lin Haoren shook his head and paused, then said plainly, "I think you are doing an admirable job of lowering the bar."

As the verbal spar between Lin Haoren and Jiang Ruolan’s fans raged on, more viewers continued pouring into the channel.

They weren’t necessarily reinforcements from the Jiang army. They just came to watch the entertainment.

Meanwhile, the Production Team began feeling worried about the intensifying conflict.

"Should we stop him, Director Chen?"

"Absolutely not!"

"Why?"

"The livestream traffic is climbing."

At that point, 3.07M live viewers had already tuned into Lin Haoren’s channel to watch the debate competition.

Jiang Ruolan’s fans were passionate, but catastrophically misguided and inept.

Lin Haoren was almost tired of hearing the same insult on repeat. Jiang Ruolan’s fans only knew how to vent; they didn’t know how to insult creatively.

"Haiz..." Lin Haoren sighed regretfully and said, "Your arguments have the structural integrity of wet tissue paper."

"Can’t you guys come up with something new? My ears are almost growing calluses from hearing the same vulgar insults over and over again."

[Hahahaha...]

The bystanders were once again thrown into a fit of laughter.

[Sister Jiang’s fans brought fists; Lin Haoren brought literature.]

[Someone, take the dictionary away from Lin Haoren. This isn’t a fan war anymore; it’s a language examination. Hahahaha...]
