Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World
Chapter 1099: So This Is How To Play Necromancer? [2]Even though he was only Level 75 and hadn't yet reached Rank Four, there were very few Rank Four awakeners he believed could rival him in pure energy reserves.
After everything he had accumulated since awakening, his mana pool had long surpassed what should have been possible for his level.
Michael extended a single hand toward the sky.
Blackish-green magic circles appeared one after another above the High Drake.
One. Five. Ten. Twenty. Thirty.
The number continued increasing. Bone spearheads slowly emerged from every array, identical in shape to Varek's own spell.
Across the battlefield, Varek's expression finally changed.
"…Interesting."
His voice drifted across the frozen wasteland.
"But young man, I advise you to be careful. Just because you're at a lower rank than me doesn't mean I'll take it easy on you. To avoid accidents that could lead to your death, it would be better if you surrendered quickly."
Michael merely smiled and didn't reply.
Please.
What was that awakener thinking? That he would surrender so easily when neither of them had truly shown what they were capable of?
"Fortunately… I'm quite familiar with the spear."
As Michael spoke, the sky rapidly filled with countless Bone Spears.
The gigantic variants cast enormous shadows over the frozen forests below. Bone Spears filled the sky until it resembled a forest suspended in the heavens.
Every spear radiated dense energy, their razor-sharp tips aimed toward the opposing awakener.
The freezing rain seemed insignificant beneath the overwhelming magical pressure gathering above the Deathfrost Rainlands.
Then both men moved. Without a word or warning. They lowered their hands almost simultaneously.
The world erupted.
BOOM!
Hundreds of Bone Spears screamed through the air. The sky darkened as countless white projectiles crossed the battlefield from opposite directions. The collision came almost instantly.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
One Bone Spear met another.
The heavens exploded repeatedly.
Spears shattered into clouds of bone fragments before their Death Energy detonated violently, producing shockwaves that rippled through the freezing rain.
The battlefield trembled. For several seconds, neither side gained an advantage. Every spear Michael launched was intercepted by one of Varek's.
Every spear Varek fired found an equal counterpart. The barrage continued relentlessly. It was less like two awakeners exchanging spells and more like two armies bombarding one another.
Explosions echoed without pause. Entire sections of dead forest disappeared beneath the falling debris. The frozen ground split open again and again under the continuous impacts.
Unfortunately, in the end, Varek's superior realm and experience granted him more refined control and stronger individual Bone Spears.
Michael compensated through sheer quantity and an almost unreasonable mana reserve. For the moment, the two advantages balanced one another. But it could only last for so long.
Several of Varek's larger spears overpowered Michael's smaller ones after destroying them and continued flying forward, their momentum only slightly reduced.
The surviving lances descended toward him like falling mountains.
Michael didn't hesitate.
Space distorted.
Whoosh!
He vanished from the drake's back. A fraction of a second later, he reappeared hundreds of meters away in the freezing sky.
The enormous Bone Spears tore through the space he had occupied.
BOOOOM!!
The explosions swallowed his previous position entirely. Even his High Drake was forced to dive violently to avoid the expanding shockwaves. The blast wave rolled across the battlefield like a tsunami, flattening everything beneath it.
Michael narrowed his eyes in annoyance.
Far in the distance, Varek watched the young necromancer calmly, but inside he was beginning to feel a trace of unease.
As expected, someone who could enter a space meant for Rank Four while still at Rank Three had to be something special.
To think the person he was more than twenty levels above dared to compete with him in raw mana. The audacity alone was remarkable.
However, though the young man was full of surprises, Varek didn't believe he would be the one losing this match.
Michael had only just steadied himself in the air when his eyes narrowed.
"…Hm? So the bone spears weren't the true attack?"
It appeared that while Michael had been focused on countering the overwhelming barrage, two magic circles had quietly remained active behind the collapsing sea of explosions.
Unlike the hundreds of circles used for Bone Spear, these two had been concealed by the constant detonations. Only now, after the barrage had subsided, did they fully reveal themselves.
They also just happened to be circles Michael could recognize, and could replicate himself if he chose to.
"…Undead Summoning."
He recognized the spell immediately.
Though it had been modified and was far more complex than anything he knew, Michael was confident it was indeed the Undead Summoning skill.
The two enormous circles pulsed once. Then tore open.
ROOOOAR!
A skeletal wyvern burst from the first portal, its massive wings scattering freezing rain as emerald soul flames blazed within its hollow eyes.
From the second emerged another undead creature.
This one resembled a gigantic bone chimera, four-legged and covered in overlapping skeletal plates, with an enormous skull and a barbed tail formed entirely from sharpened vertebrae.
The two undead landed beside Varek's dragon almost instantly, making it three undead behemoths, all seemingly at level 100.
Michael couldn't help but smile bitterly.
Truthfully, he hadn't used Undead Summoning very often after obtaining stronger methods like his engravings or storage treasures that offered greater convenience.
Since the other party had gotten a little more serious, Michael also responded in kind and summoned two creatures of his own.
Soon, two figures were standing by his side. Their auras were unmistakably Rank Four.
The two were the ancestors of the Black Serpent Empire, now both at level 98. Just two levels below the peak, but still far from it.
Immediately after appearing, their bodies began changing.
Their human forms elongated rapidly. Within seconds, the two elderly figures had transformed into enormous serpents, each well over three meters in length.
Hiss!
The pair coiled through the freezing air beside Michael's High Drake, their enormous eyes immediately locking onto Varek's newly summoned undead.
