Michael's excitement quietly grew. Instead of continuing to spread his will across all three undead at once, he immediately changed his approach. Since three targets created too much resistance, he would take one first.

His gaze locked onto the skeletal dragon fighting with his High Drake. By this point Varek had also moved toward the center of the battlefield, much like Michael.

The green light in Michael's eyes deepened. Death's Ground pulsed again with his consciousness infused into it, but this time all the pressure gathered toward a single point.

The skeletal dragon.

Varek's expression changed instantly.

"What?!"

The connection between him and the skeletal dragon began weakening at a terrifying speed. It wasn't a slight tremble anymore.

It was as though an invisible hand had grabbed the bond between master and undead and was tearing it apart strand by strand.

Varek immediately poured more soul power into the connection. The crown-shaped mark above the skeletal dragon's head flickered violently.

For a moment, the dragon's soul flames burned brighter.

Then they dimmed.

Varek's pupils contracted.

The undead creature's own resistance was pathetically weak in comparison. It existed, but it was more like an instinctive rejection rather than true defiance.

This made Michael immediately understand that near-absolute domination didn't necessarily mean instant obedience.

If the target was powerful enough or already bound to another master, resistance would still exist, even if it was ultimately futile.

The skeletal dragon's movements suddenly stopped.

Varek's face turned ugly.

The next instant, the soul flames inside the skeletal dragon's eyes changed direction. They no longer looked toward Michael.

They looked toward Varek.

Seeing this, Varek was in utter disbelief.

"No…"

The skeletal dragon opened its jaws. Pale-green flames gathered deep within its throat.

Varek's expression twisted.

"You dare!"

ROOOOOOOAR!!

A torrent of deathly dragon breath erupted toward its former master. The freezing rain evaporated instantly.

Varek raised his bone staff in fury, and layers of bone shields erupted before him one after another.

BOOOOOOM!!

The dragon breath smashed into the shields. One layer shattered. Then another. Then another.

Varek was forced backward through the air, his robes whipping violently in the shockwave as his face turned darker than the sky above.

Michael watched from afar with a bright smile.

Taking one undead hadn't satisfied him at all.

This worked perfectly!

Before this, he had been frustrated at being unable to snatch the Epic Grade wand from that Rank Three angel.

At the time, as the timer on his plan drew increasingly close, his intentions and actions had been very direct.

Using only his physical body, he had ruthlessly beaten the female angel who had wanted his life black and blue, but unfortunately whenever he reached out to grab the wand she refused to release it, placing it into her storage space and only taking it out again once she had created enough distance to cast spells.

That match had ended with a massive fireball that failed to put down the angel's remarkable regenerative abilities, causing him to fall short of snatching the treasure.

Now that he could finally get his hands on something worthwhile in the Origin Battlefield, how could he, Michael Norman, settle for just one?

What he wanted was not just one of the undead before him, or even two, but all three.

In fact, if the opponent had even more Level 100 undead to show, Michael wanted those as well.

As if answering his wish, Varek had already summoned four more undead while defending himself, and all four were still at Level 100.

The opponent appeared to be an undead specialist, Michael judged, but he wasn't particularly concerned.

In the brief window he had, he had already moved to seize control of a second undead, the wyvern.

Varek cursed loudly. The sound was swallowed by the freezing rain, but the fury in it was unmistakable.

Another of his undead had had actually been stolen again?

As an experienced necromancer, Varek immediately understood that for some reason, dark arts seemed to be completely useless against this young man. No, worse than useless.

Against Michael, they were like toys. But that only made it more absurd, because Michael was still only Rank Three. Only Level 75.

With a level like that, why were his methods this terrifying?

Varek's face twisted with rage, humiliation, and disbelief.

For a brief moment, he wanted to pour everything he had into crushing Michael, even if it meant risking serious injury. Then his reason returned.

This was no longer a battle worth continuing. The environment favored both of them, but Michael's methods directly countered the very foundation of Varek's combat system.

If the fight dragged on, more of his undead might be stolen. That was unacceptable.

Varek gritted his teeth and raised his staff. The bone chimera, along with the newly summoned undead that had yet to fully enter the battle, were immediately recalled. Their bodies collapsed into streams of light before vanishing.

Michael's eyes widened slightly.

"Wait…"

He had only just begun. Before he could make another move, Varek's presence faded away entirely.

Michael's expression changed. The battlefield fell silent. The freezing rain continued to fall.

Michael remained standing in the Deathfrost Rainlands, his expression filled with confusion and dissatisfaction.

"…That's it?"

He looked toward the skeletal dragon he had just stolen. Then at the empty space where Varek had disappeared. His lips twitched.

"I wasn't done yet."

Unfortunately, the Origin Will clearly didn't care whether he was done or not. Several panels appeared before him at the same time.

[Ranking Challenge Concluded]

[Two additional successful defenses required to activate monthly challenge protection] Michael stared at the panels for a moment. Then he sighed.

At least there was something gained. His gaze shifted toward the skeletal dragon as wyvern. The soul flames in their eyes flickered quietly, waiting for his command.

Michael's mood improved slightly.

"Well… I suppose this counts as compensation."
