Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World
Chapter 1101: I’m Death’s Heir [1]BOOOOOOOOOOM!!
A chain of explosions engulfed the chimera. Towering pillars of pink fire rose into the heavens, momentarily overwhelming even the endless freezing rain.
The chimera roared as several bone plates shattered beneath the relentless bombardment. Yet it showed no intention of retreating.
Instead, it charged directly through the exploding blossoms. Its barbed skeletal tail lashed forward like a colossal spear.
The serpent flowed through the air with astonishing elegance. Its body bent around the incoming strike by the narrowest margin before another wave of flaming flowers materialized around the chimera, preparing to bloom once more.
However, while the undead clashed fiercely across the battlefield, their masters had their own battle to fight.
Varek suddenly swung his bone staff. A circular object no larger than a palm appeared between his fingers before he casually tossed it into the air.
Michael's eyes immediately narrowed.
"A treasure?"
The moment the disk reached its highest point, intricate runes covering its surface lit up.
Click! Click! Click!
The single disk instantly separated into seven identical smaller disks.
Each floated into a different position around Varek before beginning to rotate at tremendous speed.
The next moment, seven brilliant beams erupted simultaneously.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The rays shot across the battlefield from different angles, cutting through the freezing rain with astonishing precision.
Michael instinctively prepared to teleport.
Then his vision suddenly went black. Everything disappeared.
Michael recognized the feeling instantly.
"…Is this Blind Curse?"
It was one of the curse spells he himself possessed.
Unfortunately for Varek, the darkness lasted for less than the blink of an eye. Michael's vision instantly returned.
Without the slightest hesitation, space distorted around him and his figure vanished. The seven beams crossed through the exact location where he had been standing only a fraction of a second earlier.
BOOM!
The frozen mountain behind him was pierced clean through. Several more explosions echoed as the remaining beams carved enormous trenches across the battlefield.
Across the battlefield, Varek frowned.
"…What?"
His eyes narrowed in confusion. The timing had been perfect. He had intentionally synchronized the Blind Curse with the attack from the Seven-Ray Disk so that his opponent wouldn't have enough time to react.
Had the curse failed?
Impossible. He had clearly seen it activate.
"…Was his resistance that high?"
For the first time, genuine surprise appeared in Varek's eyes.
Meanwhile, Michael looked equally puzzled, though for an entirely different reason.
"…Am I fighting a fake necromancer?"
His expression became rather strange.
A necromancer's greatest strengths were usually undead, curses, soul arts, battlefield control, and long-term attrition. Yet why did this Level 100 necromancer's spells feel like they had been cast by someone at Level 40?
Though it had certainly come as a surprise to be attacked with a curse from such a distance and so silently, the actual effect had been embarrassingly weak.
"Ahh."
Suddenly Michael laughed in self mock and shook his head at his own oversight.
"What was I even thinking? Even if I set aside my curiosity about how others fight, when it comes to death-related arts, who can actually match me?"
He couldn't help but laugh at himself.
Who was he?
He was Death's Heir!
Even if he has previously being necromancer, the era for Michael to learn how to fight like one had long passed.
In the same element, when facing him in death-related arts, unless someone was perhaps two full ranks above him, they wouldn't be able to do much to him.
Even if they were, how much would that truly change his advantage over death? At most the gap would be limited.
He, Michael, was already someone who had forcefully reclaimed a life from the universe's own hands. The way he was currently fighting truly didn't befit him, nor did it show any respect toward his class.
"Being cautious and wary of potential loss isn't bad, but it seems to be making me dull. This is not good."
"While overwhelming advantage won't exactly sharpen my resourcefulness or help me realize the full potential of my strength, since that requires genuine pressure, this situation is also my advantage."
"Whatever issues might come from fighting more openly, the future me will handle them. I shouldn't be so stiff."
Michael felt a rare moment of clarity wash over him.
Varek suddenly heard a sigh drifting across the battlefield. It was soft. Yet somehow it reached his ears clearly through the howling rain and roaring collisions. A chill crawled up his spine.
His gaze snapped toward Michael.
"What is he planning?"
The next instant, Varek's expression changed.
The connection between him and his undead suddenly trembled.
On the surface nothing seemed to happen, but an experienced necromancer and master of soul arts could immediately feel that his connection with his undead had weakened.
Though it was only slightly, for a necromancer, that slight disturbance was enough to feel like a blade pressed against the throat.
"How?!"
Across the battlefield, Michael's eyes had turned a deeper shade of green.
His gaze swept across the skeletal dragon, the wyvern, and the bone chimera. He had always wondered how the near-absolute domination over creatures of death granted by his class would work against undead that didn't belong to him.
Now he finally had the chance to test it.
Using the range provided by Death's Ground, which currently had Varek's undead within it, Michael immediately felt something.
A sort of connection. Thin. But undeniably there. When he tried to connect deeper with it, however, there was a barrier blocking him. No, not one. Two barriers.
A quick look revealed what they were. One came from Varek, the undead's master. The other came from the undead creature's own instinctive will. The latter was much weaker than the former.
Michael wasn't too surprised. Though he was still Rank Three, there were probably not many Rank Four awakeners with a soul stronger than his.
And with his class advantage added on top of that, if these undead had been ownerless, they might have already fallen under his control.
The thought made Michael pause. Then his eyes lit up slightly.
Wait. Didn't that mean that if he found wild undead in the future, as long as they weren't Rank Five or above, he might be able to directly suppress and control them without any of the usual process?
Wasn't that basically cheating?
