The mountain range had long since fallen silent.

More than forty awakeners stood scattered across the shattered peaks, none of them daring to move. Their eyes were fixed upon the young man floating calmly in the evening sky, filled with pure, undisguised fear.

Michael hovered high above them, his expression as indifferent as ever. His pale skin reflected the fading sunlight, while his handsome features seemed almost ethereal beneath the evening glow. His emerald-green eyes shone faintly, carrying neither excitement nor anger. Only indifference.

In one hand, he held a treasure whose brilliant radiance was rapidly fading, signaling that the Origin Battlefield's tracking effect had already been completed.

Beside him, a headless corpse slowly tumbled from the sky. Blood rained onto the broken mountains below.

But the youth himself wasn't the only source of everyone's fear. It was what surrounded him.

Undead.

They were everywhere, surrounding the youth. Some might not have recognized them at first glance, but they were surely undead.

Then again, was there anything that represented the beauty of death more fittingly than undead?

Some towered over the mountains like moving fortresses. Others floated silently through the air. Each possessed a different appearance, and each radiated a terrifying aura.

Most importantly, there were simply too many. The undead outnumbered the gathered awakeners by more than two to one.

Although the majority of Michael's Rank Four undead were only in the early stages of Rank Four and lacked the combat techniques, treasures, and experience possessed by intelligent races, quantity had a quality of its own.

Two ordinary Rank Four undead working together were more than capable of matching an experienced awakener. Even if they couldn't kill them, stalling was more than enough.

The current situation looked as though a long and brutal battle had already taken place. In reality, barely a minute had passed.

The reason these awakeners appeared so miserable wasn't because they had fought for a long time. It was because they had been completely overwhelmed by Michael's legion.

Only a short while earlier, the treasure's previous holder had been fleeing desperately through the mountain range.

Nearly fifty Rank Four awakeners had chased after him without pause, gradually cornering him from every direction. Realizing he would be caught sooner or later, the man made a decisive choice and threw the treasure into the crowd.

The glowing orb shot across the battlefield like a meteor. Everyone abandoned the fleeing awakener and lunged toward the treasure simultaneously.

Yet just before anyone reached it, a figure appeared seemingly out of nowhere and snatched it.

Naturally, that figure was Michael.

Unlike everyone else, he hadn't rushed forward the moment the treasure descended. Instead, he had hidden himself from the very beginning, patiently observing the situation while waiting for the treasure's protective light to weaken to a level he found acceptable.

The instant it reached that point, he moved.

Of course, Michael had never intended to face nearly fifty Rank Four awakeners by himself. But compared to the first incident, no one here seemed capable of threatening him with a genuine loss among his undead.

Still, to be safe, Michael summoned a hundred relatively strong undead from the Mausoleum of Endless Dominion. This was double the number of awakeners pursuing him.

Seeing such a terrifying legion descend upon the battlefield, Michael had naturally expected the others to retreat. After all, there wasn't a single peak Rank Four awakener among them.

Things didn't proceed as he expected.

Although the expressions on every awakener's face changed drastically and fear became visible in many of their eyes, not a single one fled. Instead, they continued attacking.

Michael was confused at first. Surely, to have reached this stage, they weren't idiots.

The only thing he could think of was that if they were willing to fight despite such overwhelming odds, the value of these descending treasures had already spread throughout the Fourth Layer, and no one wanted to surrender one so easily, even if the odds looked hopeless.

This was precisely why Michael was so cautious about fighting these veterans.

Fortunately, he was the stronger party. His undead immediately surrounded the awakeners, completely suppressing them through sheer numerical superiority.

The battlefield quickly descended into chaos, with many awakeners barely holding their limbs together.

Michael had assumed they would soon lose the will to fight after being beaten senseless and was wondering whether to summon more undead or deploy one of his engravings, when one awakener suddenly broke through a gap in the encirclement and charged at him directly.

He accelerated explosively, his spear wreathed in ice magic and shining with blinding light as he shot toward Michael like a bolt of lightning.

Unfortunately, he had severely overestimated himself.

Caught by surprise, Michael's body simply moved on instinct. His fist descended.

BOOOOM!!

The air exploded. The mountains trembled. The entire sky seemed to distort around the single punch.

The awakener's spear shattered into countless fragments before the fist continued onward without losing any momentum. His protective treasure exploded. His armor caved inward. His body collapsed instantly. The upper half simply disappeared.

Blood and shattered flesh erupted into the air before raining across the mountains.

Absolute silence filled the range. Every remaining awakener froze. Their pupils trembled as they stared at the young man in the sky.

Until now, they had believed the terrifying undead legion was the greatest threat. Now they realized the legion wasn't protecting Michael. Michael was leading it.

And judging from that single punch, the young man himself might very well be even more terrifying than the monsters currently surrounding them.

Cold sweat streamed down countless faces.

Only then did they realize that Michael had never personally targeted any of them. If he had been bloodthirsty from the start, many of them would already be among the corpses lying across the shattered mountains.

The realization filled everyone with lingering fear.

Ironically, what they didn't understand was that if they hadn't continued resisting so desperately, or if that awakener hadn't attacked and forced Michael's hand before he had time to consider adding more numbers to the encirclement, half of them would be dead now.
