Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World
Chapter 1107: Building, Where The Pillar Stood [1]Michael stared at the experience panel before him in disbelief.
When had it become possible to gain experience from killing other intelligent races outside of monsters? However, after the initial surprise, and after linking it to the uniqueness of the Origin Battlefield, he stopped dwelling on it.
Though only a few months had passed, he was no longer the Michael who recoiled at whatever uncomfortable thoughts might surface. He had already killed people before, and all of them had been enemies who came at him first.
As long as he continued operating within that boundary, it didn't matter whether they granted experience points or not.
In any case, thanks to a certain cursed title, Michael wasn't particularly interested in experience points, especially since at his maxed level any he gained would simply be wasted.
That was, of course, a different matter for his undead.
It was foreseeable that in the future, all awakeners in the Origin Battlefield, Michael included, would become far less forgiving toward opponents once this reality spread.
Michael didn't have long to sink into his thoughts, however. Much to his surprise, the awakeners who had been fighting so energetically moments ago had now fled into the distance.
"…"
"They don't want the treasure anymore? I thought they'd put up a bit more of a fight before giving up. Strange."
Wondering why they had fled even faster than they had originally chased the treasure, he turned to look down at the object resting quietly in his palm.
It was surprisingly small. Roughly the size of an adult's fist. The treasure resembled a perfectly spherical metal orb forged from an unknown silver-black alloy.
Its surface was covered in countless crimson runes that intertwined with one another, forming an intricate network across the entire sphere.
Every few seconds, one of the runes pulsed faintly before falling silent again.
Even without Detect, Michael could feel the terrifying destructive energy sleeping within it.
"…Surely it's not a bomb, right?"
With a thought, Michael activated Detect. Immediately, a panel appeared before him.
[Rune Annihilation Sphere] Grade: One-Star Epic Description: A disposable treasure created by compressing an enormous quantity of destructive energy within a runic shell.
Once activated, the sphere detonates after a brief delay, releasing catastrophic force over a wide area. Effects: Releases a devastating explosion equivalent to the full-force magic attack of a Peak Rank Four powerhouse.
The explosion ignores most forms of ordinary elemental resistance. Effective destruction radius scales with the surrounding environment. Restrictions: Single Use. Cannot be interrupted once activation is complete.
"Heavens, it really is a bomb!!!"
Michael flinched slightly and immediately threw the treasure into his storage space. Only then did he calm down somewhat.
"Another good harvest. Although it's only a One-Star Epic treasure, even for me it can serve as another trump card." He suspected the same would be true for many Level 100 awakeners.
"But its grade feels a little low for something with this much destructive power."
According to the description, the Rune Annihilation Sphere could unleash an attack comparable to the standard full-powered magic attack of a Peak Rank Four powerhouse.
That wasn't weak by any stretch of the imagination. If it was comparable to the dragon breath of the undead High Drake, it might even be better than that. But it was only a One-Star Epic treasure.
"It must be because it's disposable."
That was the only explanation that made sense. Permanent treasures naturally possessed far greater long-term value than something that could only be used once.
No matter how terrifying a single attack was, once it exploded, it was gone forever. If this treasure could be reused repeatedly, Michael had little doubt its grade would be far higher.
Aside from the treasure's type and grade, Michael had also learned a few more things about descending treasures. His eyes unconsciously drifted toward the sky.
"This treasure only came from one of the weaker beams of light, and it was still an Epic-grade treasure. Does that mean all five descending treasures were Epic-grade? The only difference is probably their value within the Epic grade itself."
The brighter the descending light, the more valuable the treasure hidden inside. Michael found the theory increasingly reasonable.
His first descent had rewarded him with the Three-Star Epic Incense of Enlightenment, so extraordinarily useful that even now he considered it one of the greatest treasures he possessed.
This second descent had only involved one of the weaker lights, yet it still contained a One-Star Epic treasure capable of threatening peak Rank Four awakeners.
Both of them were also consumables.
Michael couldn't help but wonder if this was simply his luck, or if this was how descending treasures normally worked.
"I really want another treasure like the Incense of Enlightenment. If I manage to obtain one or two more from the brightest descent, I should be able to determine whether that first Incense was merely coincidence, or whether the greatest descending treasure is always something on an entirely different level."
As his thoughts wandered, he recalled his undead back into his spatial world and continued exploring.
More time passed.
What Michael hadn't expected was that just four hours before his departure, he would come across a special location in the Origin Battlefield.
"Is this a building? What's a building doing in the Origin Battlefield?"
The Land of Origin had been vast beyond imagination.
The Origin Battlefield was no different. Mountains, valleys, forests, swamps, deserts, frozen wastelands, volcanic regions, the Fourth Layer alone contained environments that looked as though they belonged to entirely different worlds stitched together by some incomprehensible force.
Over the past two days, Michael had gradually discovered another pattern. The Origin Battlefield wasn't simply divided into layers. It was also divided into regions.
Each region possessed a numerical designation.
Level 1. Level 2. Level 3. The higher the regional level, the richer the resources became.
Naturally, the danger increased alongside them.
Fortunately, Michael had also noticed another rule. The Origin Battlefield appeared to maintain an astonishing degree of balance. This was only the Fourth Layer.
