Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
The forest echoed with countless piercing whistles.
The Direwolves scattered in every direction.
Noah intentionally focused several weapons on each individual wolf. He wasn’t interested in merely injuring them. He wanted certain kills.
Schhk!
Schhk!
Schhk!
Ice spears pierced through one Direwolf’s chest while three swords impaled another from different directions.
The two monsters collapsed immediately. They were dead.
Several more weapons struck two additional wolves.
Although they survived. Deep wounds covered their bodies, slowing their movements considerably.
Only the Alpha remained untouched. Its enormous body weaved effortlessly between the falling barrage.
Instead of retreating. It accelerated. Trees shattered as it charged straight toward Noah and Damien.
Boom!
Boom!
Its massive body crashed through trunks thick enough to require several men to encircle.
Its crimson eyes burned with savage fury.
The monster suddenly opened its gigantic jaws.
Blue mana rapidly gathered inside its mouth.
The surrounding air trembled.
"Noah!"
Damien immediately understood what was coming.
The next instant.
BOOM!!
A concentrated beam of blue mana erupted from the Alpha’s mouth. It tore through the forest with terrifying destructive power.
Damien instantly turned around. Golden mana exploded from his body.
His sword blazed brilliantly. It shone so brightly that it resembled a miniature sun.
Without hesitation he swung.
A massive arc of golden light collided head-on with the incoming beam.
BOOOOOOM!!
The collision produced a deafening explosion. The shockwave flattened nearby trees.
Dust and smoke engulfed the battlefield.
Damien was blown backward by the tremendous force.
His body flew several meters through the air before landing behind Noah.
"Ghk!"
He slid across the ground before barely managing to stop himself.
Noah clicked his tongue.
"...Damn."
The gap between their strength had become even more obvious. Noah slowly stepped forward. The battlefield remained hidden beneath thick clouds of dust.
But that doesn’t mean they couldn’t kill it.
If the leader monster was alone, Damien could have kill him by now.
Right now Noah couldn’t see anything.
He took stance.
Then his breathing slowed. One emotion after another disappeared.
Excitement, fear, Impatience. Everything gradually sank into silence. The world became still. His eyes lost every trace of emotion. Only absolute focus remained.
The Second Petal.
[Still Surface Cut]
Noah calmly raised his sword. Then he performed one simple horizontal slash.
Slash.
The movement appeared ordinary.
Almost effortless. Nothing visible left his blade.
Only an invisible wave of freezing force silently traveled through the dense smoke.
A heartbeat later.
Schhk
The hidden Alpha suddenly emerged from the dust cloud. A deep horizontal wound opened across its chest.
Frost rapidly spread from the cut, freezing the surrounding flesh.
The beast let out a pained roar.
ROOOAAARRR!!
Its charging speed immediately dropped.
Seeing their leader wounded. The remaining Direwolves instinctively hesitated. That single moment was all Noah needed.
His left hand rose once again.
More ice weapons rapidly formed above the battlefield. At that exact moment. A brilliant golden slash flew past Noah from behind.
Damien had already regained his footing.
His sword shone brilliantly as another powerful attack swept across the battlefield.
"Go!"
Noah gave his command simultaneously.
The golden slash carved through two Direwolves with overwhelming destructive force.
Their bodies were split apart before crashing lifelessly onto the forest floor.
At the same time Noah’s rain of ice weapons descended. Multiple blades pierced the remaining wounded wolves before they could escape.
Two more monsters died instantly. Silence briefly returned to the forest.
Only three enemies remained. The Direwolf Alpha. Its chest still bleeding beneath layers of spreading frost.
And two surviving Direwolves standing protectively beside their leader. The Alpha growled viciously.
Its crimson eyes burned with hatred. Heavy breaths escaped its mouth as blood dripped onto the forest floor.
Footsteps approached from behind.
Noah glanced over his shoulder.
Damien walked toward him while resting his glowing sword across one shoulder. A confident grin spread across his face.
"Well...This should be much easier now."
Noah nodded.
"Yeah."
Noah tightened his grip around his sword. "You handle the Alpha. I’ll finish the remaining two."
Damien’s smile widened.
"You got it."
Without another word the two young men charged forward once again. Noah dashed toward the two remaining Direwolves without hesitation.
The monsters immediately locked onto him. Their crimson eyes burned with hunger and rage as they bared rows of razor-sharp fangs.
With furious growls, both wolves lunged at him simultaneously.
ROOOARRR!!
Noah remained calm. He stomped his foot against the ground. Mana surged into the earth.
The next instant.
Crack!
Massive ice spikes erupted violently from beneath the charging Direwolves.
One of the wolves reacted instantly. It pushed off the ground with powerful hind legs and leaped high into the air, narrowly escaping the deadly spikes.
The second wasn’t so fortunate.
SCHHKK!!
Several crystal-blue spikes burst upward through its body. They pierced its abdomen before tearing through its chest and back.
Fresh blood sprayed across the pristine ice, staining the crystal spikes crimson.
The metallic scent of blood spread through the surrounding forest.
The Direwolf let out a pained howl before its body went limp, hanging motionless upon the frozen spears.
It was dead.
At that exact moment the surviving wolf descended from above. Its massive claws slashed toward Noah’s head.
Clang!
Noah raised his sword just in time.
Steel collided against razor-sharp claws, producing a shower of sparks.
The impact sent vibrations through his entire arm. The Direwolf’s physical strength was tremendous.
Its muscles bulged beneath its dark fur as it continuously pushed against Noah’s blade.
But Noah was no longer the young man he had once been.
He planted his feet firmly. Mana reinforced every muscle in his body.
His grip tightened. With a sharp twist of his wrist, he redirected the wolf’s claws away from himself before taking several quick steps backward.
The instant the monster landed. A glowing blue magic circle appeared beneath its feet.
The wolf’s instincts screamed in warning.
It tried to leap away.
But it was too late. A violent storm of ice erupted from the magic circle.
Freezing winds exploded outward. Countless razor-sharp shards of ice swirled around the Direwolf like a miniature blizzard.
ROOOAAARRR!!
The monster howled in panic. Its thick fur rapidly became coated with frost as the freezing storm slashed at its body from every direction.
Blood mixed with countless ice crystals as fresh wounds appeared across its flesh.
The beast struggled desperately to escape the raging blizzard.
Meanwhile Noah calmly extended his free hand toward the sky.
Mana gathered rapidly. A gigantic spear of crystal ice materialized above him.
Its surface gleamed beneath the faint sunlight filtering through the forest canopy.
The freezing aura surrounding it caused the nearby air to shimmer.
The blizzard gradually dispersed. The wounded Direwolf finally became visible once again.
Its body was covered in deep cuts. Its movements had noticeably slowed.
Without wasting even a second. Noah thrust his hand forward.
Whooosh!
The enormous ice spear shot through the air like a bolt of frozen lightning. The DireWolf barely had time to lift its head.
SCHHKK!!
The spear pierced straight through its chest.
The tremendous force carried the monster several meters backward before pinning its lifeless body against the thick trunk of a massive tree.
Blood slowly dripped down the crystal spear.
The Direwolf’s crimson eyes dimmed.
Its body twitched once.
Then became completely still.
Noah exhaled slowly before shifting his gaze toward Damien’s battlefield.
Only the Direwolf Alpha remained.
---
The Direwolf Alpha roared furiously as it charged toward Damien one final time.
Its enormous body blurred through the forest, crushing everything in its path.
Damien remained perfectly calm.
Golden mana erupted from his body like blazing sunlight.
He tightened his grip around his sword. With a single step forward. He swung.
Slash!
A massive golden arc shot through the air. Without pausing, Damien twisted his body and unleashed another strike.
Slash!
Then a third.
Slash!
Three enormous vertical slashes tore across the battlefield one after another, each carrying overwhelming destructive force.
The Direwolf Alpha couldn’t avoid them.
BOOOOM!!
All three attacks struck its body almost simultaneously.
A deafening explosion erupted, engulfing the beast in blinding golden light.
The surrounding trees shook violently from the impact.
Dust and shattered earth were blasted into the air.
Before the smoke could settle.
Four radiant magic circles materialized high above the battlefield.
Each circle glowed with brilliant golden light.
The surrounding mana gathered rapidly before condensing into enormous spears of pure light.
Damien extended his sword toward the smoke.
"Go."
The four lances descended together.
Whoooosh!!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!!
Each lance crashed into the Alpha with devastating force.
The repeated explosions tore apart the battlefield, leaving behind a massive crater where the monster had stood only moments earlier.
When the smoke finally dispersed...
The Direwolf Alpha lay motionless upon the shattered ground.
Its body was riddled with deep wounds, and the golden light lingering across its fur gradually faded away.
It was dead.
The forest fell silent. Only the sound of their heavy breathing remained.
Noah sheathed his sword before walking toward Damien.
"Looks like we’re finally done."
Damien wiped the sweat from his forehead and let out a long breath.
"Yeah... That pack was tougher than I expected."
Noah glanced at the corpses scattered across the battlefield.
"Let’s collect their monster cores first. And after that..."
He looked at the dead monsters thoughtfully.
"...we’ll absorb the mana from their bodies."
Damien nodded without objection.
"Sure."
"We’ll take turns." Noah said. "That way both of us can recover some mana before moving deeper into the labyrinth."
"Sounds like a plan."
The two young men began moving from one corpse to another, carefully extracting the monster cores.
