Crack!
Noah launched himself forward.
The ground beneath his foot fractured from the force of his push, forming a web of cracks across the muddy earth.
His sword gleamed with a sharp, pale-blue frost.
Ba-dump! Ba-dump!
His heartbeat thundered faster than ever.
Above him, the heavens continued their violent clash. Dark clouds spiraled across the sky as blue lightning tore through them, followed by deafening peals of thunder. Heavy rain poured down relentlessly, carried sideways by powerful winds.
Yet Noah didn’t slow down. His eyes were fixed ahead. The enormous abomination suddenly raised its head.
Its single crimson eye turned toward the sky toward Akari.
SKRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!
The creature released another shrill scream. The sound tore through the forest.
Noah’s head throbbed violently from that sound.
"Ugh!"
Pain stabbed through his skull, but he gritted his teeth and continued running.
’I can’t stop!’
Several tentacles suddenly shot toward him.
WHOOSH!
Noah twisted his body sideways. One passed inches from his shoulder. Another swept across his path.
He jumped. A third came from above. Noah ducked beneath it before leaping onto another tentacle. The moment his boots touched its surface.
HISSSSSS!
The ice beneath his feet began melting. Noah immediately poured more mana into his legs. Fresh frost formed beneath each step.
He ran faster and faster. His figure became nothing more than a blurred streak of pale-blue light moving through the rain.
SHING!
A tentacle struck toward him.
Noah swung his sword.
SLASH!
The freezing blade severed it cleanly, then another came.
SLASH!
Another fell. His movements became increasingly decisive. There was no hesitation anymore.
No fear, only determination.
’I have no choice.’
Noah suddenly leaped into the air. His eyes glowed with intense azure light. Mana surged violently from his core.
BOOOOM!
A gigantic four-meter-long sword materialized beneath him. Unlike his previous creations, this one was considerably thicker and wider. Noah landed on its frozen surface.
’Go!’
The massive ice sword shot forward.
WHOOSH!!!
It tore through the rain like an arrow. Noah crouched low, maintaining his balance while pouring an enormous amount of mana into the construct.
His temples throbbed. His mind strained under the concentration required to control such a massive weapon while simultaneously moving at high speed.
’This time... I can’t hold back.’
He had already defeated an abomination larger than thirty meters during his labyrinth expedition. And since then, he had grown considerably stronger. His core had advanced. His physical abilities had improved.
His swordsmanship had improved. His control over ice had improved. But this creature it was on another level entirely. And Noah knew that.
’If Akari fights this thing while she’s still out of control, the surrounding area will be destroyed.’
And Noah wouldn’t survive the aftermath. Waiting wasn’t an option. Running wasn’t an option.
’Then I’ll strike first.’
The abomination suddenly moved. Its enormous foot lifted from the ground and began stepping toward the direction of the raging dragon.
Noah’s expression hardened.
"Not happening."
He released the restraints on his mana.
BOOOOOOM!!!
His entire core erupted. Mana flooded through his body.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
One enormous ice sword materialized. Then another and another. Within seconds, more than twenty gigantic swords appeared throughout the storm. Each one was over twenty meters long.
They floated around the abomination like enormous pillars of frost, their edges gleaming beneath the lightning-filled sky.
The creature finally noticed him. Its gigantic crimson eye slowly turned toward the tiny human hovering in the distance.
For the first time it acknowledged Noah’s existence. Noah gripped his sword tightly.
"Yeah."
His breathing was heavy. "But I’m not going to let you reach her."
The abomination opened its enormous mouth.
SKRRRRR
Noah’s eyes widened.
’Here it comes.’
A torrent of crimson smoke suddenly erupted from its mouth.
FWOOSH!!!
The smoke spread through the air like a poisonous wave.
Noah immediately understood.
’That thing will eat through my ice armor.’
He didn’t hesitate.
"Up!"
He commanded the massive sword beneath his feet. The ice blade shot vertically upward like a rocket.
WHOOSH!!!
The crimson cloud passed beneath him. The moment it touched the surrounding trees.
HISSSSSSS—!!
Their surfaces blackened and began to dissolve.
Noah’s expression became grim.
’One touch and my defenses are gone.’
He looked down at the abomination. Then at the twenty massive swords surrounding it. A determined smile slowly formed on his face.
"Alright..."
He raised his sword. "Let’s see how much you can take."
The twenty enormous swords remained suspended around the abomination. For a brief moment, everything seemed strangely still. Then Noah raised his hand and waved it down.
BOOOOOOM!!!
Every sword moved at once. They shot toward the abomination from every direction with terrifying speed, tearing through the rain and leaving trails of pale-blue frost behind them.
Noah’s eyes widened as he poured even more mana into their movements. His temples throbbed violently.
’Too many...’
He had never attempted to control this many massive constructs simultaneously. Each sword required a tremendous amount of concentration. And now he was controlling more than twenty of them at once.
His vision blurred for a moment. Blood trickled from his nose. But he didn’t stop.
"Move!"
The swords accelerated.
SHRAAAAAK!!!
The first massive blade slammed into the abomination’s shoulder. Another pierced through its chest. Two more crashed into its abdomen from opposite directions.
Several struck its arms and legs. One enormous sword drove straight through the side of its torso.
BOOOOOOM!!!
The combined impact shook the forest. The abomination’s gigantic body staggered.
SKRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!
It screamed. The sound shook the clouds.
First time, genuine pain appeared in its monstrous voice.
Noah’s eyes widened.
’It worked!’
But the swords hadn’t penetrated as deeply as he had hoped. The creature’s flesh seemed to resist them. The blades sank several meters into its body before losing momentum.
CRACK.
One sword began to fracture, then another.
Noah’s expression changed.
"No..."
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
The enormous ice swords shattered one after another. Thousands of fragments of frost scattered through the air. The abomination slowly straightened itself.
Noah stared.
The enormous wounds across its body began moving. The flesh around each injury twisted and crawled toward the center.
Squelch.
The holes closed. The torn flesh reconnected. The damaged muscles regenerated. Within seconds, the wounds had completely disappeared. It was as though Noah’s attack had never happened.
His pupils contracted.
"It healed...?"
No. That wasn’t healing. It was something far worse.
’It regenerated almost instantly.’
The abomination’s single eye locked onto him.
Noah felt his stomach drop.
"Shit."
The creature raised one arm.
WHOOSH!!!
A gigantic tentacle shot toward him. Noah immediately commanded the sword beneath his feet to dive. The tentacle passed overhead.
BOOM!!!
Another followed.
Noah twisted sideways. A third struck him from behind.
CRACK!
His ice armor shattered. The impact sent him flying.
"ARGH!"
He spun through the air before crashing through several tree branches.
BOOM! BOOM!
His body finally slammed into the ground. Pain exploded through his back. Noah couldn’t breathe for a while.
"Kh..."
He coughed violently. Blood escaped from the corner of his mouth. His vision swayed.
’That one hit...’
He slowly pushed himself up. His ribs felt like they had been crushed. But there was no time to recover.
WHOOSH!
Another tentacle descended. Noah rolled away.
BOOM!!!
The ground exploded beside him. Mud and debris covered his body. He immediately created several ice pillars beneath himself.
SHING! SHING! SHING!
The spikes launched him into the air. He narrowly escaped another strike.
"Come on!"
His eyes glowed azure. A dozen ice spears materialized around him. He thrust his hand forward.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
The spears shot toward the creature. The abomination raised one arm. Its flesh bulged. Then dozens of smaller appendages erupted from its arm.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The spears were intercepted. Some shattered. Others were swallowed by the creature’s flesh.
Noah’s expression became increasingly grim.
’Its defense is ridiculous.’
He clenched his teeth.
’Then I’ll attack from another direction.’
He created an ice platform beneath himself and launched forward. His sword became coated in a razor-thin layer of compressed frost.
SHING!
Noah descended toward the creature’s shoulder.
[Frozen Lotus—]
Before he could complete the technique.
WHOOSH!
A tentacle struck him from the side. Noah barely managed to raise his sword.
BOOM!!!
His body was sent flying. His arm went numb. He crashed into the ground and rolled several times before finally stopping. His breathing became ragged.
Blood ran down his forehead.
His left shoulder hung unnaturally. There his skin was decomposed on shoulder.
"Fuck..."
He forced himself upright. The abomination was still standing. Untouched, its single eye stared down at him.
Noah laughed weakly.
"You’re really one annoying bastard..."
Noah’s expression hardened.
’I can’t beat it like this. There’s fucking now chance. Not a single attack working on it."’
He looked toward the sky.
Lightning continued to surround Akari.
The storm was becoming more violent by the second.
His gaze returned to the abomination. Noah tightened his grip around his sword despite his trembling hands. He forced mana into his damaged body.
Pain surged through him.
He ignored it.
"Come on..."
Just the creature stared at Noah and the opened it’s mouth. "HUMAN... STAY OUT OF MY WAY!!!"
It’s loud horrifying voice spread though the forest. Noah stopped and looked at the creature with shock.
