Extra's Path: The Eternal Frost Monarch

Chapter 293: Lightning-Storm Dragon [5]

CRACKLE!

The tentacles recoiled beneath the surge of lightning.

But they didn’t let go. Instead, the abomination tightened its grip. Akari’s enormous body was suddenly dragged backward through the sky. His strength was far more strong than she had expected.

Her eyes narrowed. She had expected resistance, but not this. The creature’s single crimson eye remained fixed on her.

Its grotesque mouth slowly stretched open.

"YOU CANNOT ESCAPE."

More tentacles erupted from its arm.

Akari’s wings spread violently.

BOOOOM!

The surrounding clouds exploded outward from the sheer force of her movement.

She pulled against the restraints with all her strength.

Lightning gathered around her trapped leg, growing brighter with every passing second.

Her eyes flashed.

"Don’t underestimate me."

KRAAAAAAAAAAAK!!!

A tremendous surge of blue lightning erupted from her body.

The tentacles began burning.

One after another, their corrupted flesh blackened and crumbled.

The restraints loosened.

But before Akari could completely break free—

BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

The abomination’s other hand slammed into her.

Akari barely managed to raise her wings. The impact sent her enormous body flying through the clouds.

She spun several times before finally stabilizing herself. Her wings spread wide.

She stopped. Then slowly looked down at her leg. Several sapphire scales had been damaged.

Blood trickled between them.

Akari’s expression became colder.

’That thing can actually injure me...’

She raised her gaze.

The abomination remained suspended in the sky, surrounded by countless writhing tentacles.

Below it, the forest continued to rot. Akari’s claws slowly tightened. Blue lightning crawled across her body.

Then she raised both wings. The atmosphere suddenly changed. The storm clouds above began rotating.

A tremendous pressure descended over the battlefield.

RUMBLE...

A gigantic magic circle appeared high above the forest.

Then another and another.

Concentric rings of ancient lightning runes formed across the heavens, spreading farther and farther until they covered several kilometers of sky.

The entire battlefield was illuminated by brilliant azure light. Even the crimson clouds were pushed aside.

The abomination looked upward.

For the first time, its expression seemed slightly interested.

Akari hovered beneath the enormous formation.

Her mana surged violently. She poured an enormous amount of energy into the spell.

The surrounding air trembled. Lightning began gathering within the magic circle. Countless strands converged toward its center.

The brightness became almost unbearable. For one brief moment, the entire forest looked as though dawn had arrived.

Akari’s eyes glowed intensely.

[Celestial Thunderstrike]

There was silence everywhere.

KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK!!!

The heavens split open. An enormous pillar of lightning descended from the magic circle. It was so massive that its width covered nearly an entire kilometer.

The bolt struck the abomination directly.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

The world disappeared beneath blue-white radiance. Lightning spread outward from the impact point like countless rivers of destruction.

The earth ruptured.

Trees were instantly vaporized.

The ground was blasted apart, forming an enormous crater that expanded across the battlefield.

A shockwave swept through the forest.

Dust and debris were thrown kilometers into the air.

Even the storm clouds were violently displaced.

Akari remained high above the battlefield, breathing heavily.

She watched and waiting.

The dust cloud slowly began to settle. Her eyes moved toward the center of the devastation.

Toward the circular platform. Over it was the crimson portal. The waist length pillars having red glowing crystals above it, from them two crystal were broken and not blinking anymore, only two of them.

Akari’s expression stiffened.

’What... is that thing made of? Even after attacking so many times... it’s still perfectly fine. Only two of them broken.’

And even those two had been broken because the creature’s body, while avoiding them, had somehow brushed against them..

And then her pupils contracted. The floor was still standing. She had just unleashed an attack capable of devastating an enormous area.

Other than small damage, everything was standing still. It was same as before. While the land and forest surrouding it was destroyed.

While the unknown creature’s body was still covered in smoke and dust.

WHOOSH!

Something suddenly shot through the smoke.

Akari immediately twisted her body. A tentacle passed where her head had been.

Nearly hundreds of black-red tentacles shot toward Akari.

Her eyes widened.

WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

Tentacles erupted from the battlefield in every direction. They moved faster than before. The abomination’s corrupted flesh was producing them continuously.

They spread across the ground, through the trees, and into the sky. Some wrapped around mountains. Others tore through the earth.

Everywhere they touched began to decay.

Akari flew backward, narrowly avoiding one after another.

It’s getting faster. The dust finally disappeared. The abomination emerged. Its body was regenerating.

But something had changed. Its flesh was reconstructing itself faster than before.

And its body was larger. Much larger than before.

Akari’s heart sank. It’s becoming stronger. She looked across the battlefield.

The crimson corruption continued spreading. Then her gaze shifted toward the direction Noah had escaped.

Her expression changed.

’Noah.’

The tentacles were spreading toward him. Akari immediately understood the situation.

She might not be able to kill this creature. Perhaps not even with her strongest attacks.

But she couldn’t allow it to reach Noah. Her wings slowly spread. Lightning gathered around her body.

’If killing it isn’t possible...’

Her eyes became sharp. She couldn’t stay here.

’Then I’ll have to protect him somehow.’

She glanced once more at the abomination.

’I need to get Noah farther away.’ She thought.

The creature suddenly roared.

GWRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWL!!!

Thousands of tentacles surged outward.

Akari turned toward Noah’s direction. Her body became enveloped in blue lightning. Two wings appeared behind.

KRAK!

Then she vanished. A streak of azure crossed the crimson sky.

Because this time, Akari wasn’t fighting to destroy her enemy. Now she was fighting to make sure the person she cared about survived.

Her only thought was Noah.

’I need to get him farther away. Somewhere safe.. anywhere.’

She had barely covered a few kilometers when.

WHOOSH!

Something moved beneath her.

Akari’s eyes widened in shock.

A gigantic tentacle erupted from the ground and wrapped around her waist before she could react.

"—What?!"
