Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 576: The Will of Retribution

Following Daniel’s attack, the Demon of Despair rushed at the discombobulated Duke at savage speed, but the instant the father and son both closed in upon the Duke, the man laughed, "Fools...."

Invisible chains shot out from various axes in the air, wrapping around the arms and legs of both Axel and Daniel at once, instantly immobilising them. In that moment, Axel’s four limbs lit up with black flames of decay.

As if he were already prepared for that attack, and naturally he was... because he could see it all with his mutated Runic eyes.

The Demons’ harrowing black flames were more than powerful enough to burn away even the Psychic-constructed chains, despite their pseudo-abstract nature.

As the invisible chains that bound Axel were burned to cinders, the effect of the Black Flames did not stop there; those demonic flames spread through all the chains, reaching towards the source, which was none other than the Duke himself.

Sensing the threatening power of the encroaching Despair flames, the Duke instantly cut off all links of the Psychic constructs.

To make sure that the flames could not reach him.

Allen stared at the demon, frowning.

With a cold look, he asked, "So you can sense my constructs, huh, demon?"

Axel replied unhurriedly, "So, what if I can? What are you going to do about it?"

The Duke asked once more, "The Demonic flames, it can even burn the abstract constructs?"

Axel echoed the same words to him as before: "So, what if it can?"

Allen smiled darkly; he moved his hands once more, as if summoning more constructs, and this time, from each of his fingers, psychic chains shot out in various directions, and at the tips of those chains were daggers tied up.

Axel frowned but made sure not to show any drastic reaction; his blade lit up in pitch-black flames once more, and he dashed towards the incoming chain-linked daggers flying through the air in a completely unpredictable zigzag pattern.

Of course, with his runic eyes, he could see through the attacks, as Axel warned his father about this through mental transmission.

Steel met against invisible chains.

Sword met against unseen Daggers.

Will of the Duke brushed against the Flames of the Demon.

The Silver-Armoured Daniel also continued to fight like a madman, launching vicious sword strikes from a distance, as he wielded the element of light through the Runic Armour’s enchantments.

His fury and desire for revenge were boiling like an unstoppable storm, though in the end it was Axel who was taking up most of the Duke’s attention.

Suddenly, the Demon realised something disturbing: his Black flames were not encroaching upon these chains as effectively as before.

As if sensing Axel’s silent bewilderment amid their destructive clash, the Duke stated,

"I can manifest my psychic constructs to be anything that I wish for them to be, so I now ordained them to be something tangible instead of being abstract, and I commanded my constructs to be inflammable to the absolute degree."

"As such, it doesn’t matter how corrupting or insidious your Demonic Flames are; it cannot harm my constructs, not anymore," declared the Duke in a ruthless countenance.

The 5th phase powerhouse sneered, "I admit that your demonic abilities are truly threatening Osiris, but in the end, you are empty of the overbearing Will that anchors the result of your actions onto reality."

"So, ultimately, Demon, your Will is.... weak."

The words seemed to cause Axel to stop in his tracks for a moment, as that statement somehow hit his two drumming demonic hearts; he almost laughed as he repeated the words,

"My Will is weak????????????"

For an instant, the life he had lived till now flashed before his eyes...

From the moment he appeared in this world, by sacrificing himself to save Sophia,

Fighting tooth and nail against Ivor to get his hands on the Demonic Integration Plant,

Witnessing the memory of his mother Myra nearly getting violated right in front of his eyes.

Living through the harrowing first trial, as he lost his little brother Akon, being schemed against by Cedric Stormscribe, his Runic master.

Who later revealed to have been experimenting on his mother, Ancia, within the trial, and was also responsible for Akon’s cancer as well as his death.

Surviving from the brink of death in that world with the help of his grandfather’s remnant Will.

Then in the academy, learning that the Valkyrie was the very girl he always loved, she was Sophia,

How the beautiful girl he loved had gone through a harrowing trial that spanned almost 100,000 years,

And despite all that, he had to betray her, ultimately erasing her memories of Tyler Cross.

So, what came out from that academy was no longer a human, but a demon at heart who schemed, killed, and fought to make his fallen family rise once more against the oppressive authority of the Ducal and Royal Houses.

Eventually, in his grand plan, he caused humanity to be completely sunk by Despair, bringing the Human race to near extinction.

He had experienced the deepest of despair from almost every mundane of Humanity.

Despite all that, the Duke says his Will isn’t strong enough???????

"Hah....ha...hahahahahahaha ahahahahahahahah,"

Laughed the Demon in his monstrously malignant voice, at the sheer absurdity of Allen Dusker’s query, as his laughter spread, carrying the very essence of the Sin of Despair.

It seemed to make the worldly mana shudder, as if the very heaven and earth were cowering before the insidious laughter of the Demon of Despair.

But in the end, Axel’s laughter paused, and a mirthless smile remained on his lips. He said to himself, ’Actually, he’s right, as I am right now, my Will, despite all my near-impossible or beyond-impossible accomplishments.... is still weak.’

The reason behind that weakness was that he had been perhaps drawing power from the wrong spot, the wrong source. From the moment he had absorbed all the despair of humanity,

Axel had designated that endless expanse of putrid black ocean of despair in his soul sanctum as the source of power of his Sin of Despair.

But he was wrong... no matter how great the quantity of Despair he had absorbed from all of humanity, in the end, they were all but external ingredients.

The true Sin of Despair cannot come from any external stimuli; it always has to come from himself, from within himself, from the depth of his heart.

All the external despair could only be a reactant to the main formula, just a reagent to help in the main process.

Nothing more and nothing less.

So, a silent question arose in his heart, in that moment of self-contemplation, ’What am I fighting for? What am I struggling to achieve at this moment?’

’What result do I wish to anchor upon the reality as a consequence of my actions?’

And.....

The answer came to him without the need of a second thought; it was, of course, for the sake of revenge.

Perhaps because of the countless major hurdles he had faced so far, his burning desire for reprisal had been squashed by the weight of his other responsibilities. He was fighting for revenge at this moment, yes.

However, he was not actualising that desire with enough burning passion as he should have, and that was a big mistake.

Axel’s gaze shifted, his expression changed, filled with a silent but gargantuan well of emanating fury.

His demonic wings vibrated; the symbol of (Desparatio) on his chest pulsed in a dark-grey demonic light.

Axel whispered, in the words of the lost Demonic Tongue, words that the Duke could not comprehend, words which echoed like a malevolent chant.

"I am the Scourge of Retaliation."

"The Spirit of Vengeance."

"The Flame of Reprisal."

"And... I am... the Will of Retribution."

Thus, in that moment, he became the ’Despair’ seeking ’Revenge’.

The black flames with white innards burst forth with far greater intensity than before. Through the white lines all over his grey and black demonic body, the flames trailed, creating the sight of a profane demonic majesty.

The property of his despair flames changed once more. There was only one thought in his mind: to pay back the Dusker family for what they did to his mother.

His figure dashed forward in rhythm with his father’s light attacks, his black-flaming sword clashing against the chain-bound daggers.

Clank!!

Shreak!!!

Kachink!!!!

The so-called inflammable psychic constructs began to burn in his demonic flames once more, far more efficiently than before; the chains and invisible daggers crumbled like paper set aflame.

This sudden change caught the Duke off guard. Thus he was affected by Daniel’s piercing strikes and mad onslaught.

At this moment, the Demon smiled, his head slowly turned downward, as he declared with a thunderous roar, "Demonic Armada... go all out and slaughter all the Duskers like dogs."

The instant he issued this command to his Demonic thralls, multiple powerful explosions of demonic energy echoed, followed by multiple Demon transformations.

The forces of the Duskers, which were barely holding on, were now even more oppressed by this re-energised demonic assault.

The Duke roared in fury, doing everything in his power to go over and help the declining forces of his family who were being killed nonstop.

But the vicious father and son naturally did not allow the Duke even the slightest chance to get past them, especially now that the Duke’s Psychic constructs were being burned to a crisp by the Demon’s harrowing flames once again.

Allen said through gritted teeth, "How is this possible? How can your flames change to burn my constructs? They should be absolutely immune to any flames now."

Axel smiled as he said in an overbearing tone, "Because ultimately, Duke, your Will is weak and... mine is NOT."

"As such, I simply willed my flames to be able to set aflame even the elements that are inflammable."
