Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 578: The Ground Siege

Down below the aerial duel, Gareth and the rest of the members of the demonic armada were thoroughly thrashing the ground forces of the Dusker household. They were slaughtering the defending guards like dogs, moving left and right through the courtyards without facing any real resistance.

They were painting the once glorious and untouchable ducal mansion in bright red blood. The massive structure, which had stood for generations as the greatest symbol of power for anyone living within the entire Dusker region, had now become a broken monument on the very verge of total ruin.

Wailing screams from the once-arrogant seekers of the Dusker family echoed through the smoky air, echoing the brutal, merciless assault of Osiris’s demonic thralls.

Gareth’s overwhelming strength cast a massive, dark shadow over the hearts of even the most powerful fourth-phase existences present, causing a deep psychological Dread to bloom within them.

Due to Wangnan’s unique demonic ability, Dread Vessel, this budding fear grew rapidly, acting like malicious parasites in their minds. The Corrupted Elf then harvested this negative energy to empower himself further mid-combat.

Alternatively, he could suddenly allocate this concentrated Dread upon a smaller, targeted group of powerful seekers during an important moment of the life-and-death battle.

This tactical application resulted in the Dusker forces facing a psychological threat they could not comprehend, as Wangnan’s ability could not be defended against by standard physical or magical means.

This chaotic situation was also exploited by Zena Karmann, who used her Sin Amplification ability to thoroughly defeat one opponent after another.

Since a great amount of negativity already existed in the hearts of the powerful third phase seekers she was currently facing, her magic allowed her to turn their own inner turmoil into a weapon that tore their mana circuits apart from the inside.

Zena was not the only one wreaking havoc throughout the burning battlefield. Her younger brother had also grown significantly stronger, fighting with a far fiercer, more relentless style as his battle prowess increased alongside the growing purity of his demonic blood.

Conner Ravenspire and the three other royal heirs of the minor kingdoms were also acting as a vicious menace to their enemies. In fact, they were the very group most passionate and fervourous about the slaughter of a major power of the Suncrest Kingdom, treating the historic battle like a vindictive sport.

Conner did not serve as the primary attacking force against waves of incoming guards. Rather, he served as support, but he was easily one of the deadliest amongst the entire armada. He constantly utilised his demonic ability called False Probability to bombard the minds of the enemy forces.

The ability worked by forcing streams of the worst possible scenarios directly into the brains of the soldiers, showing them horrific deaths that could have happened to them in the past but did not actually occur.

It served as the ultimate mental distraction, working like a falsified flash of impending doom. The targets would see themselves being decapitated or disembowelled, causing them to freeze in panic.

This psychological trick ultimately caused the downfall of those individuals, who were caught completely off guard by the terror of the ethereal probabilities and failed to parry the real attacks closing in on them.

However, their monstrous butchering of the household guard was forcefully halted as a new wave of even stronger powerhouses emerged from deep beneath the foundations of the Dusker mansion. A hidden stone hatch shattered open, and several figures stepped out into the bloody courtyard.

In particular, three very old-looking men moved with eerie synchrony, silently surrounding Gareth’s large figure.

They were all radiating the unmistakable power of the peak fourth phase, yet their physical bodies looked as though they had just emerged directly from fresh graves. Barely any skin and bones remained on their gaunt frames, and their ancient armour hung loosely off their shoulders.

Facing three peak fourth-phase powerhouses simultaneously was an extremely formidable obstacle. The sudden appearance of such a force was enough to cause Gareth grave shock. He stopped his advance and let out a long, low sigh. It was exactly as he had originally expected it to be before the siege began.

Most of the ancient, powerful families of the kingdom were well-versed in the art of hiding their strongest powerhouses from the public eye. They purposely kept their elders concealed in deep stasis so that they would not be drafted into the meat-grinder wars that had occurred against the ghost race.

Despite the danger, Gareth stepped forward without a single trace of fear in his eyes. He gripped his massive weapon tightly, his muscles bulging as his demonic ability, Sacred Obsession, flared into active use.

This specific ability operated as if it did not possess a natural limit on how long it could provide physical stamina and massive power boosts to the Forger’s harrowing demonic powers.

As long as Gareth’s internal obsession held, and as long as his personal will and conviction remained unflinching and tyrannical, he would possess an endless stream of stamina as well as infinite energy reserves. It allowed him to keep fighting nonstop, ignoring the physical degradation of his muscles.

The three ancient elders did not speak a single word. The elder on the left lunged forward first, his gaunt hand forming a claw that channelled a dense current of wind mana, aiming directly for Gareth’s throat.

Simultaneously, the elder on the right slammed his staff into the cracked ground, causing massive stone spikes to erupt upward from the bark plateau, attempting to impale the demon from below. The central elder remained stationary, using his immense mental strength to lock Gareth’s physical movements in place.

Gareth roared, the sound tearing through the courtyard as his Sacred Obsession pushed his physical threshold to its absolute limit. He swung his heavy weapon in a massive arc, the sheer kinetic force shattering the rising stone spikes into dust.

Without stopping his momentum, he leaned into the wind claw, using his heavily reinforced shoulder to take the brunt of the impact. The strike tore through his outer skin, but his obsession completely muted the pain, allowing him to counter-attack instantly.

He brought his weapon down toward the central elder with enough force to split the courtyard in two, forcing the stationary man to break his mental lock and retreat backwards.

The three peak fourth phase powerhouses quickly reformed their perimeter, their dead eyes staring at the tireless demon with a new sense of caution.

Gareth spat a glob of dark blood onto the ground, a wild, predatory grin spreading across his face as he readied his stance for the next exchange. He knew this would be a long, gruelling battle, but as long as his conviction remained unbroken, he would not fall.
