The instant when the Innate Territory manifested by the Duke broke with an echo like a thousand shattering glasses, the world changed in the eyes of Axel, Daniel, and most importantly, Allen Dusker.
Like a broken star falling from the heavens, Allen plummeted down to the mountain range located two kilometres away from the Dusker mansion.
The once mighty powerhouse was now a mess of inconceivable magnitude, covered in blood from head to toe. His condition was so severe that his very internal organs were failing him. The worst part of all was perhaps the gargantuan pressure of the World Will, which had once again been forcefully imposed upon his broken body.
The world itself was actively trying to crush him. Every air particle, every ounce of atmospheric mana or world force, and even the skies and earth were subtly negatively affecting him.
That was the price, the steep price for forcefully imposing a domain and overwriting the rules of reality. After all, such an act was almost akin to directly disobeying the absolute laws of the World Will.
Yet, there was a clear reason why the World Will hated powerful seekers imposing their domains upon reality. This act placed an unfathomable amount of pressure upon the very fabric of space itself.
While this would not be much of a problem on the grounds of any of the seven ruling empires of Eldarion, it was a massive issue in this western corner of the continent, specifically within the Human Lands where energy density was disgustingly fragile.
So, in essence, the Duke imposing his Innate Territory was truly a gamble, as it could have shattered space entirely, ultimately dooming both himself and his enemies alike.
Thankfully for all parties involved, that spatial collapse did not happen, because the World Will had kept the spatial fabric intact at its own steep cost.
Which was precisely why it was so furious at the Duke over this reckless action.
Allen stared back coldly at the Demon Osiris and his former closest friend, who was now donning the majestic silver rune armour created by the infamous Runic Sage.
Axel, in the terrifying visage of Osiris, carefully observed the process of Allen’s Innate Territory shattering. The event almost felt like a chaotic spatial teleportation, but a hundred times worse. The spatial disorientation was so bad that even Axel, in his current demon form, felt disoriented for a brief instant.
He looked into the distance, gazing toward the bloody Dusker mansion where terrifying battles were still ongoing. He saw Gareth being surrounded by three peak fourth-phase existences. Even so, Gareth was still clearly on the winning side.
His other demonic thralls and the assassins from the Hand of Umbra were in a similar situation, fighting fiercely while being surrounded by a greater number of experts belonging to the Ducal family.
Then Axel looked carefully toward the nearly twenty-kilometre-wide isolation barrier. Thankfully, the massive energy construct still held strong. It seemed the doppelganger Axion and the twin soul assassin Lebron were both doing a praiseworthy job in maintaining the barrier construct.
Eventually, Axel’s harrowing demonic gaze landed upon the bloodied enemy who was pretty much on his last legs. This was the exact reason why he had stated to the Duke from the very first instant the man had imposed his Innate Territory that this was an ability activated through a deep cost.
If an Innate Territory was overwhelmed or destroyed by the actions of another, the seeker receives an extremely harsh backlash, enough to temporarily make them utterly vulnerable.
If the Duke only had to worry about himself, the man could have used some of his secret abilities or hidden spatial artefacts to escape from the battlefield. But that was not a choice for the powerhouse.
He fought to protect his house, his family, and his people.
Right in front of his eyes, the countless years of accumulation by his Dusker family and the heritage of multiple thousands of years left by his ancestors were now coming to a swift end.
Allen could obviously see from the corner of his eyes how the strongest forces of his family, despite outnumbering the enemies by almost three to one, were still losing badly.
It would not be long until every single member of his family force was dead.
The man gritted his teeth in scathing rage and shouted, "Daniel, do you truly want to kill my family? Is that how low you have fallen?"
The silver-armoured figure who was slowly approaching the wounded Duke paused in his tracks. The rage that was flowing through him exploded further in a violent burst of killing intent.
The Nomrad patriarch scowled, "You dare say such disgusting words when your woman killed Myra? And yet, in all of these years, you have done nothing."
"NOT A SINGLE DAMN THING."
Daniel laughed in a self-deprecating tone, "Not that I expected anything else from a wretched coward like you."
Allen gritted his teeth and stood up from the ground, which was heavily bathed in his own blood. Every single cell of his body protested against his will due to the sheer physical agony.
He said softly, "I hate her just as much as you do, but even if I wanted to, I could not do anything. She is still a princess, even if she is a forsaken one."
He paused and added with visible struggle, "More than that, she is still the mother of my child."
This time, Daniel did not speak in an outburst. Rather, he nodded with a cold expression, "You are right. You could not do anything. And maybe I was the same as you, my friend of the past. That is why I must serve justice for the sake of my dead wife and my son."
He then declared, "Do not worry, though. I will not kill your son. And unlike your wretched family, in the future I will not try to kill or pressure your son either."
Allen growled, "You want to pin the blame of all this slaughter on the demon?"
This time, it was Axel who stated with a light, mocking laughter, "Compared to what I did to almost all of humanity, do you think the King would care much about just one Ducal family disappearing? Even for the sake of a princess, he would have far bigger things to worry about compared to one useless princess being killed."
In response, the Duke laughed. He laughed almost like a man whose back had been pushed completely against the wall. It was a bitter laugh mixed with a heavy trace of absolute madness.
Allen asked, his tone laced with the strong smell of defeat, "Osiris! Do you think I am a fool? Even if Daniel decides to spare my son, I know you would not spare a single soul of my family, whether they are guilty or innocent."
Axel smiled darkly, "And what of it? What are you going to do about it, oh mighty Duke of Dusker?"
The Duke chuckled and smiled with an incomparably ruthless countenance, "Even if I cannot defeat you two, I can bring you down with me, can I not?"
Axel tilted his head. Just as he was about to reply with a snarky comment, he felt a surge of danger strong enough to make his spine tingle. He frowned and saw that light, ethereal cracks were starting to spread all over the Duke’s body.
The cracks spread rapidly from his chest up to his limbs and his face as well, overlapping his bloody visage and creating a disturbing sight that words could not adequately explain.
Axel’s eyes widened in realisation. He turned toward his father and, without speaking a single word, he grabbed Daniel by one arm and flung him in the back into the distance with all of his might before the man could even process what was happening.
And then Axel dashed forward toward the Duke, whose body was already half covered in glittering white cracks.
Axel roared in rage. He truly did not expect the Duke to pull this kind of desperate move. It was for the same reason the Duke could not escape from the two of them despite likely possessing the spatial ability to do so: the man could not leave his family behind to die, just to save himself.
The self-destruction of his Soul Sanctum would cover such a massive range that even his family mansion and everyone inside it would be decimated to cinders, not just the Duke’s enemies.
Which was why Axel had to stop the wretch before he actually detonated his Soul Sanctum.
Just as Axel was about to execute his strongest strike of dual colored flames in a piercing manner to kill the powerhouse as fast as humanly possible, the Duke let out a maniacal laugh.
"Fucking Demon, you have been fooled!"
Before Axel’s devastating strike could reach the Duke, all the spreading white cracks over the powerhouse’s body suddenly wriggled and were pulled back right toward the centre of his chest, right where they had originally started spreading.
A beam of blinding white light shot out, piercing through Axel’s dual colored Despair demonic flames as if it were a scorching hot knife cutting through butter.
That beam of blinding radiance was aimed directly at Axel’s head, not his chest or his stomach. Allen knew very well that the most assured way of killing a powerful Demon was to sever or destroy their head, specifically destroying their brain.
And that was exactly what happened.
The Nightvisor, which Axel wore, cracked and dropped to the ground, completely unable to handle the power of that attack. After all, it was merely a disguise artefact, not a defensive artefact.
And then...
SQUELCH!
The demon’s head exploded in a maelstrom of black blood and flesh in a harrowing manner. Only his two forward-curved horns remained intact, dropping to the stone floor on top of the mountain with a hollow, reverberating clank.
The headless body of the demon stood there completely motionless, while fountains of thick black blood began to pour out nonstop.
And shockingly, the Duke, who was supposed to have self-destructed, did not. While his physical condition had worsened far more than before, he remained intact, standing there with a wide, bloodstained grin on his face.
Allen did not self-destruct his Soul Sanctum. Instead, he had sacrificed half of it to produce a directional beam of pure destructive power that nothing could stop, not even the Demon of Despair, not even Osiris.
