Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 586: It was me all along....

"WHY ARE YOU A DEMON!"

Daniel Nomrad screamed at his son, his voice cracking in complete agony as he struggled against the terrifying doubt gnawing at his mind.

The roar tore through his throat, filled with the pain of a father forced to question whether the boy standing before him was a human or a monster, whether he was truly his flesh and blood or something else entirely. He wanted to scream that it was all a lie, but he could not.

The unique mana resonance he had felt a moment ago was unmistakably from the Nomrad lineage. Yet the demonic transformation, the skull that regenerated from nothing, and the dark aura were also undeniably real.

Axel looked up toward the cloudy skies for a quiet moment. His blue eyes rippled like water as memories flashed across his mind, recalling the exact instant he had first opened his eyes in this strange world.

He spoke in a calm, unhurried voice. "Father, did you never find it suspicious? Think back to when I woke up from that dead coma. Simon Vanelis could not wake me up despite all his Alchemical Expertise. Alric Stragoy, despite all his mastery over light magic, could not clear away the darkness that clouded my soul. Nobody could explain how I survived."

Daniel felt his chest tighten. His eyes trembled behind the visor of his helmet as he opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out. The bitter memories of those hopeless years returned to his mind, reminding him of how he begged countless powerhouses or organisations for help, but no one came to help him.

Even those few who did step forward to help in respect of his father, Damien’s terrifying reputation was still unsuccessful in helping his comatosed son.

Axel continued speaking, his tone remaining steady and clear. "To be completely honest, I did not know how I woke up either at first. But right after my eyes opened, I heard a voice inside my head."

"The voice told me to go to a specific location, find a certain plant, and eat it so that I could become a demon. It told me that becoming a demon was the only way I could stay alive."

He paused, his ocean blue eyes looking directly into Daniel’s shaken gaze. "And that voice belonged to Grandfather."

The revelation hit Daniel like a heavy hammer. His mind raced back in time, immediately connecting that piece of information to the reality of past events.

"The disease," Daniel muttered, his voice barely audible over the mountain wind. "The strange plague that spread through Santak village. The one affecting humans, animals, and trees alike."

Axel nodded, offering a small, soft smile. "That is right. In that place grew the Demonic Integration Plant, a rare creation that had the capacity to turn a non-demonic being into a real Demonkin."

He took a slow step forward, the light blue hair framing his face swaying in the breeze. "I found it, I ate it, and I became a demon. Since that time, I have only been taking one step at a time towards becoming a complete demon."

"I grew stronger, plotting in the shadows, scheming to slaughter more enemies and gather more power."

He did not blink or hesitate as he admitted the next truth. "It was me who slaughtered most of the surviving students inside the academy."

Daniel gasped, taking an unsteady step backwards as his breath hitched.

"A demon bloodline cannot grow through peaceful training," Axel stated plainly. "A demon can only grow stronger in that way, through blood, conflict, and slaughter."

Daniel’s mind rattled to an unprecedented degree. A broken, painful smile appeared on his face as the horrifying reality settled into his mind, piece by piece.

"So that is how you grew so much stronger, so fast," Daniel said, his voice trembling with a mixture of shock and terror. "So that is how everything was going so smoothly for you. You have been plotting through the shadows the entire time, secretly killing all of our enemies one after another."

He shook his head, listing the events as they clicked together in his mind with terrifying logic. "You survived through the academy because of your demonic might. You were the one who killed Taser Vex inside the academy grounds."

Axel remained silent, neither confirming nor denying it with words, but his cold gaze said everything.

"And you killed Talon Vex later on," Daniel continued, his tone growing heavier with every sentence. "Then you slaughtered most of the Vex family. You joined on the side of the Ghost race disguised as a pureblooded demon."

"From the human side, you provided runic weapons to the entire Human Army. You killed from both sides, taking hundreds of thousands of lives, just for your demon bloodline to grow stronger."

Daniel stared at his son with bloodshot eyes, tears welling up at the edges as his whole body shook under his armour. "And lastly, you were the one who almost brought all of humanity to utter extinction. You, my own son, were Osiris all along!"

Axel inhaled deeply, taking in a breath of the cold mountain air. He looked his father directly in the eye and gave a firm, clear nod.

"Yes," Axel replied. "I was always the Demon who fought against humanity, and I was always the Divine Runecaster who fought to protect humanity."

Tears finally broke past Daniel’s eyes, falling down his grimy, bloodstained face. He looked at his son with a heart heavy with unbearable grief.

"My son," Daniel asked in a heavy, broken tone. "Did you have to be so cruel? How could you be so cruel? Must you be so inhumane? Are you even human anymore? Are you even my son now?"

The small, bitter expression on Axel’s face vanished completely. Taking a few steps closer, he gazed at his father coldly. The warmth in his eyes was replaced by an absolute, unyielding darkness.

"All that I did to gain power, no matter how cruel, was for the sake of finally having the power to get my revenge," Axel stated in a ruthless tone. "It was for the sake of being able to protect my friends and family in the face of absolute danger."

He took another step forward, his voice dropping to a low whisper that pierced straight into Daniel’s soul. "Father, the bright kid you once knew already died on that day when Mother was killed. Only the cruelty remains in my heart, a force that will stop at nothing for the sake of revenge."

Axel stared into his father’s weeping eyes without a single shred of guilt. "Because I would rather be the cruellest of demons than remain a helpless, pathetic, self-righteous human unable to exact revenge on the people who took away my loved one."

He shook his head slowly, a quiet note of mocking disappointment in his voice. "Didn’t I tell you, Father? You are just too softhearted."

Rage exploded inside Daniel’s chest. He reached out with both hands and grabbed Axel by the collar of his tunic, pulling him close with violent force.

"YOU!" Daniel roared, his entire body shaking with anger.

Axel only smiled calmly, completely unfazed by his father’s furious reaction. He did not raise his hands to defend himself, nor did he try to pull away. He simply stood there, looking at Daniel with a peaceful, untroubled expression.
