Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 593: This is the story that you started [3]

The heavy clanking of metal armour echoed across the quiet roof as Daniel Nomrad stepped forward.

Moving past his son, he positioned himself directly between Axel and the terrified mother and son. Daniel placed a firm, heavy hand on Axel’s shoulder and spoke in an unyielding voice. "I promised Allen that his son would not be harmed, and I intend to keep my word."

He looked down at the boy on the stone floor, his expression cold and resolute. "You will not harm Ken Dusker."

Ken’s desperate, bloodshot eyes flickered with intense disbelief as he stared at the broad back of the silver-armoured man standing before him. Daniel Nomrad was one of the people Ken had hated most in his entire life.

That deep hatred had been carefully nurtured by the bitter words of his mother, who had always painted the righteous nature of the Nomrad patriarch as a pathetic facade hiding a fundamental weakness of character.

Yet now, that very same man was standing firm against his own monstrous son to protect him. Ken could hardly believe his own ears and eyes.

Beside him, Duchess Livia wore a bitter, twisted expression as tears streamed down her bloodstained cheeks, her pride completely shattered.

For a brief moment, Axel was stunned by his father’s sudden intervention. The sheer resolve this man displayed just to uphold a promise made to a dying friend seemed almost absurd under these violent circumstances.

Yet, Axel was not truly surprised. After all, that was his father’s true nature, an unwavering moral code that he refused to abandon even when faced with absolute darkness.

A dark smile returned to Axel’s lips. Leaning closer to his father, he whispered into Daniel’s ear. "Then kill the Duchess instead. Kill her right in front of Ken Dusker’s eyes, and I will finally tell you what happened on that day."

Daniel gritted his teeth so hard that a thick vein bulged on his forehead. Anger flashed through his eyes, and he exploded in righteous fury. "Do you think I would ever kill a mother right in front of her own son?"

Axel rubbed his chin, maintaining a thoughtful, almost relaxed expression. He let out a chuckle and added, "You have no choice, Father. You have to do exactly that if you want to learn the truth of that day."

SLAP!!!

Unable to contain his rage and disgust any longer, Daniel slapped his son across the face. The harsh crack echoed across the roof as Daniel recoiled, horrified that his child could even suggest such an inhumane act. It felt as though his real son had truly perished, replaced entirely by a cold, calculating monster.

Turning away from Axel, the silver-armoured patriarch faced the trembling mother and son. His cold gaze locked onto the hateful woman who, as far as he knew, was directly responsible for the tragic death of his beloved wife.

"You wretched woman," Daniel said, his voice deep and dark with suppressed rage. "There is nothing I want more than to tear you apart right here and now, exactly as Axel asked me to do."

His tone softened slightly as he looked at Ken, though his posture remained firm and imposing. "However, I do not wish to commit such an act in front of your child. I am willing to let your son live, provided you tell me the absolute truth. Tell me what happened on that fateful day."

To Daniel’s surprise and frustration, the Duchess merely shook her head. She gritted her teeth so fiercely that dark blood welled up from her gums, flowing out like a red fountain over her chin. She refused to utter a single word.

Seeing her stubborn silence, the patriarch turned his heavy gaze toward the Dusker heir. Daniel stepped closer and bent down until he was at eye level with Ken, who was sitting on the bloodstained marble while desperately clutching his mother.

"You know what happened as well, do you not?" Daniel asked, his voice pressing down on the boy with immense authority. "Tell me the truth, and I will spare your life. Please, tell me."

Ken offered only a bitter, hollow smile as tears spilt continuously from his eyes. He could not give Daniel the answers he sought.

This final refusal pushed Daniel over the edge. Enraged by their stubbornness, he hurled a devastating punch straight into Ken’s face.

The force of the blow was calculated to render the boy unconscious, flinging him across the hard roof. However, owing to Ken’s reinforced demonic physiology, he did not lose consciousness despite taking the heavy strike.

Seeing that the boy was still conscious, Daniel immediately launched a focused wave of rune energy toward Ken. The specialised magical pressure crashed into his body, binding his limbs and completely immobilising him against the floor.

Against the advanced rune power that Daniel now wielded, power strong enough to contend with a fifth-phase Duke, Ken had no hope of retaliating.

Daniel stood tall, declaring in a frigid tone, "Since neither of you is willing to speak, it seems I am left with no choice. I will have to kill your mother right in front of your eyes, Ken Dusker."

"NO!" Ken screamed, his voice breaking as he thrashed helplessly against his magical restraints. "Please, don’t! Kill me instead! Please, just kill me and spare my mother! I am begging you!"

The first thrall of Osiris pleaded frantically, directing his desperate cries to both the Nomrad patriarch and his Lord, but his words fell on deaf ears.

Duchess Livia turned her head to look at her son. A soft, sad smile touched her lips, and she shook her head gently. She was more than willing to accept death if it guaranteed that her son would survive.

In that exact moment, a nauseating wave of déjà vu struck Livia like a sudden storm. A cold, instinctual terror seized her heart, causing her gaze to shift involuntarily toward the blue-haired demon standing nearby.

As if he had been waiting for this precise moment, Axel’s lips curved into a subtle smile. No sound escaped his throat, but his voice echoed directly inside Livia’s mind like the dark whisper of a devil.

’I wonder how your son will go on living, watching his own mother be slaughtered right before his eyes.’

The mental words struck Livia like a heavy hammer blow. The horror of the sentence was terrifyingly familiar, echoing the exact words she herself had spoken years ago.

She remembered the sheer malice she had felt when her mercenaries from the Vex family were prepared to violate Myra Nomrad right in front of her helpless young son.

Back then, Livia had been consumed by endless glee. She had revelled in watching that woman suffer, the hated rival who had stolen her happiness and occupied her husband’s thoughts.

Livia had wanted to break Myra completely. She had wanted to destroy her entire world, her husband, her son, and everything she held dear.

She had purposely spared young Axel on that day, leaving him traumatised so that Myra’s family would endure unending agony.

That decision had driven Myra to sacrifice her own soul sanctum, incinerating her very essence to give her child a single chance at survival.

Now, the consequences of that cruelty had come full circle. The helpless, trembling boy who had fallen into a hopeless coma had returned as a terrifying, scheming demon of unprecedented malice.

He stood before her now, grinning at her misery with the same glee she had felt while tormenting his mother.

Livia let out a choked groan of pain as Daniel delivered a decisive strike to her chest. The heavy energy shattered her internal defences, causing fresh blood to erupt from her mouth.

Her failing eyes turned toward her struggling, bound son one last time. It was the same look of tragic, helpless love that Myra Nomrad had cast upon Axel before making the ultimate sacrifice to save her child’s life.
