Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 596: Melody of Despair [2]

{Warning: There will be severe brutality in this Chapter}

The Dusker Heir was forced back into his fragile human form, bleeding and broken.

Before he could hit the floor, Daniel reached out and clamped a heavy, armoured hand around Ken’s throat. With cruel, effortless power, he hoisted the boy into the air and slammed his head back-first into the bloodied marble roof.

The stone cracked under the impact, sending dust and debris raining down on them.

Livia screamed in utter panic and unbridled rage, her voice echoing frantically through the ruined estate.

"GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF MY SON!"

"DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH HIM!"

"STAY AWAY FROM HIM! STAY AWAY!"

"I’LL KILL YOU! I’LL KILL YOU ALL!"

"I WILL DESTROY YOU WRETCHED NOMRADS!"

She thrashed against the metallic chains binding her to the wall, the iron links cutting deep into her skin and drawing blood. But her agonising wails sounded like sweet, melodious music to Daniel’s ears.

Every screech from the Duchess was a satisfying payment for the horrific suffering she had inflicted upon his beloved wife during her final, agonising moments.

Standing a few paces behind them, Axel watched the scene unfold with a faint, chilling grin playing across his lips.

The young Runecaster extended his mental awareness, scanning the entirety of the vast mansion. Aside from a few terrified, hiding servants, no viable threats were remaining in the area.

Sending a mental command to his shadowy thralls, he ordered coldly, ’Kill the assassins of Umbra. They have served their purpose and are useless now.’

Immediately after, he sent a second telepathic instruction to his doppelganger, who was currently maintaining the spatial barrier outside alongside the Twin Soul assassin: ’Return to the mansion roof now.’

Refocusing his attention on the bloody scene before him, Axel watched as his once kind, benevolent, and pitifully soft father raised his heavy boot over Ken’s leg.

Daniel brought his heel down with sickening force onto the boy’s kneecap.

SCRUNCH!

The sound of shattering bone and tearing ligaments echoed sharply through the room as Ken’s right leg was crushed into an unnatural angle.

Without a second’s hesitation, Daniel lifted his boot again and slammed it down onto the other leg.

SCRUNCH!

Ken’s left leg caved inward, the splintered femur breaking through the skin and spilling dark blood across the marble floor.

Moving with methodical, heartless precision, the Nomrad Patriarch leaned down and grabbed Ken’s right wrist, twisting and snapping it backwards.

CRACK!

Axel closed his eyes for a brief moment, letting his senses submerge completely into the chaotic orchestra of violence unfolding around him.

He inhaled deeply, drawing the warm, metallic scent of fresh blood into his lungs as it evaporated from the mangled corpses of the fallen Dusker Seekers.

In the distance, he could hear the faint, desperate screams of the Umbra assassins as his demon followers ruthlessly executed them one by one.

Nearer to him were the shrill, agonising screeches of Ken Dusker, who was being systematically dismantled by a father whose heart was now entirely consumed by dark, unyielding vengeance.

And sweetening the air was the helpless, bitter despair bleeding from Livia Dusker as she was forced to watch her only child get butchered before her eyes.

The overwhelming despair overflowing from her shattered heart felt like a rare, exquisite wine that had been aged in total darkness for hundreds of years and left to oxidise in silence, waiting to be uncorked only on the grandest of occasions.

Axel felt a profound sense of satisfaction knowing that he had uncorked that bottle of aged despair at the most perfect, opportune moment imaginable.

He spread both arms wide toward the blood-stained sky, openly revelling in the majestic chaos he had personally designed from the shadows.

Inside his chest, his twin demonic hearts beat in a heavy, rhythmic pulse, pumping pitch-black blood saturated with the ’Despair’ attribute throughout his circulatory system.

The thick negativity lingering in the atmosphere was continuously absorbed into his body, empowering his core and refining his aura to greater heights.

He felt like a master composer standing on a grand stage, conducting a horrific, demonic symphony of pure cruelty.

It was a cruelty exacted entirely for the sake of revenge. A cruelty that was long overdue, yet only sweeter because of the wait.

Axel could almost hear the exquisite notes of agony reverberating through the fabric of the surrounding space. It was so terrifyingly beautiful that he felt tempted to call it Art.

A subtle ripple in space signalled the arrival of his alien doppelganger and the Twin Soul assassin, who materialised silently onto the blood-slicked roof.

Axel opened his dark eyes and surveyed the carnage below.

Every bone in Ken’s body was shattered beyond recognition. Most of his internal organs had ceased functioning entirely, save for his heart, which only continued to beat due to the stubborn, lingering tenacity of his demonic bloodline.

Duchess Livia’s voice had grown completely hoarse and broken from non-stop screaming. Tears, blood, and snot smeared across her face, turning her once proud, majestic features into a pitied, wretched mess.

Ken himself was reduced to a lump of bloody, unrecognisable flesh.

Daniel’s armoured faceplate and fists were caked in thick, crimson blood. Wearing a wild smile on his face, the Patriarch raised his blood-dripping fist high into the air once more.

He prepared to land the final, skull-crushing blow that would end the boy’s life.

However, right before the fist could descend, an abnormal phenomenon occurred.

Ken’s shattered, near-dead body suddenly glowed with a dark, pulsating crimson light. His broken bones began snapping back into place with sickening speed.

Torn flesh knitted together, ruptured organs regenerated, and within mere seconds, Ken’s body was completely restored to pristine condition, as if the horrific torture had never taken place.

Even Ken himself stared at his hands in stunned shock, utterly unable to comprehend how his ruined body had magically recovered from the brink of death.

Bound against the wall, the Duchess watched the miracle unfold, and a tiny, fragile spark of crushed hope suddenly reignited within her chest.

She prayed desperately for a miracle, hoping against hope that some unknown saviour or ancient artefact had intervened to rescue her child from this living hell.

However, before that fragile hope could bloom, an ice-cold, horrifying whisper drifted directly into her right ear.

"Did you think I would let your son die so easily?"

"Did you think I would relieve your torment so simply?

"Did you think I would end it so unironically?"

The Duchess slowly turned her head to the side, her breath catching in her throat as if she were staring directly into the face of a true horror beyond all comprehension.

Axel was leaning down right beside her, his face a mere inch away from hers.

Though he remained in his human form, his eyes had transformed into terrifying abysses of pure pitch-blackness, centred with razor-thin, white slit pupils.

"Oh, my dear Duchess... you have no fucking idea."

Axel straightened his posture, stepping back slightly as he addressed the blood-drenched Nomrad Patriarch with an amused grin.

"It’s fine, Father. Just keep going at it. Bring Ken to the brink of death again, and again, and again..."

His smile widened into a predatory sneer. "And I will simply keep healing him through the demon bloodline."

"And the mighty Duchess will continue to witness every single second of it... endlessly."

Daniel’s lips mirrored his son’s demonic smile underneath his visor. Without a second thought, he brought his heavy fist down once more, mercilessly resuming the brutal destruction of the boy.

A blood-curdling screech tore from Livia’s throat, sounding like the death wail of a banshee echoing into the night.

The sheer level of sadism on display sent an icy chill sliding down the spines of Axel’s demonic thralls and even his alien doppelganger.

Standing motionless on the roof, even the cold-blooded monsters found themselves unnerved by the matchless, infinite cruelty displayed by the Demon of Despair.
