Chapter 134: Chapter 134
Lucy was feeling confident again.
Erza Scarlet—the Fairy Queen herself, Fairy Tail’s most popular female Mage—had personally invited her to join a team!
Did anyone understand what an incredible honor that was?!
And what did it mean?
Obviously, one of the guild’s biggest names had recognized her strength!
As expected, Lucy Heartfilia was a woman chosen by destiny.
At this rate, becoming S-Class was only a matter of time.
Reporters would surely start lining up soon to interview Fairy Tail’s brilliant new rising star!
What nickname should she choose when that happened?
The Blonde Fairy?
Or perhaps...
Fairy Tail’s Cutest and Sexiest Queen?
’Oh my, oh my~ What a difficult decision!’
...
Gray, who had just finished another fight with Natsu, stared at Lucy as she became completely lost in her own fantasies.
He elbowed Natsu.
"Oi. Is this newcomer really okay?"
"She doesn’t look particularly bright."
"How should I know?"
Natsu scratched his head.
"But her scent makes me feel nostalgic somehow."
"Kind of like... a mom?"
Gray recoiled.
"Huh?"
"Never expected that from you, flame-brain. Turns out you’re a damn freak too."
"What?!"
Natsu immediately snapped.
"Says the naked pervert! I’m just describing what I smell!"
"I’m nothing like you!"
Happy offered an objective assessment.
"Aye! Lucy’s great!"
"She buys me fish!"
Erza ignored their nonsense and addressed everyone seriously.
"This mission will require all of you to cooperate."
"I have a feeling our opponents won’t be easy to deal with."
"Yes, Erza-sama!"
Lucy immediately straightened.
"Please leave it to me! I’ll give this everything I have!"
Erza nodded before turning toward the visibly nervous newcomer.
"Lucy, was it?"
"Marshall spoke highly of your abilities."
"This mission may be dangerous, but he still specifically recommended you. I assume that means you’re quite capable."
"I look forward to working with you."
"N-No, no!"
Lucy bowed so deeply she nearly folded herself in half.
"I’m the one who’ll need everyone’s help!"
Then something occurred to her.
Wait.
Marshall had said her abilities were good?
What exactly had given him that impression?
Compared to him, Lucy’s strength was barely worth mentioning!
But then...
Could Marshall have noticed her hidden potential?
So Erza had invited her because Marshall personally recommended her!
He thought that highly of her?!
"I’ll definitely do my best!"
Lucy clenched her fists.
"By the way... what exactly is the mission?"
"Oh."
Erza paused.
"I forgot to explain that yesterday."
She turned toward Natsu.
"Natsu, get over here. I’ll explain everything at once."
Erza briefly summarized what Gray had overheard and what they had learned about Eisenwald and Lullaby.
When she finished, Natsu punched one fist into his palm.
"So basically, we find those Eisenwald bastards and beat them up!"
That, however, was not Lucy’s main concern.
Lucy had turned to stone.
’Subjugate... Eisenwald?’
’Isn’t that a dark guild?!’
And from Erza’s description, they weren’t just ordinary criminals.
They were dangerous enough to threaten legitimate guilds!
Lucy had joined Fairy Tail only a few days ago!
Was it too late to say she wanted to quit the team?
Of course it was!
She couldn’t possibly say that now!
’Noooo!’
’Marshall, why did you recommend me for a mission this dangerous?!’
’I can’t handle this!’
Gray looked around.
"So what now?"
"We don’t even know where Eisenwald’s hideout is."
"We’ll go to Onibus."
Erza answered immediately.
"Eisenwald has been active around that region."
Natsu’s face went pale.
"W-We have to take a magic train?"
He took a nervous step backward.
"How about you guys take the train and I run there?"
"Idiot."
Gray rolled his eyes.
"By the time you arrive, we’ll already be finished."
Erza shook her head.
"Normally, anyone below S-Class isn’t permitted to use this facility."
"But consider this a special privilege for the mission."
"Follow me."
She led them to a room on the guildhall’s third floor.
Lucy looked around curiously.
"What is this place?"
"The Teleportation Chamber."
Erza stepped toward the large magical array occupying the center of the room.
"Mystogan has established teleportation arrays in cities throughout Fiore."
"With these, we can travel between them almost instantly."
Natsu clutched his head.
"What?!"
"We had something this convenient the whole time?!"
"I never knew it!"
"Then what the hell have I been suffering on trains for all these years?!"
"Because ordinarily, only Laxus and I use them regularly."
Erza continued calmly.
"Marshall doesn’t need them. Mira and Mystogan rarely accept jobs anymore."
"And besides..."
She looked Natsu up and down.
"If you tried activating one of these arrays yourself, it would drain your magic power almost instantly."
In theory, activating a teleportation array required around ten thousand units of magic power.
The cost decreased considerably depending on the user’s mastery of Spatial Magic.
Mystogan was highly skilled in spatial techniques and could activate the arrays with only a small amount of Lacrima assistance.
Erza needed roughly five thousand units for each teleportation.
That amount barely mattered to her.
For Natsu, who knew absolutely nothing about Spatial Magic, however, there was no way to reduce the cost.
He could only brute-force the spell with raw magic.
"Damn it!"
Natsu clenched his fists.
"This year, I’m definitely becoming S-Class!"
Gray immediately scoffed.
"Keep dreaming. I’m the one getting promoted this year."
Erza gestured for everyone to enter the array.
Once they were in position, she adjusted the destination coordinates and activated the spell.
Light engulfed them.
A moment later, the group appeared inside a rocky cave on the outskirts of Onibus.
"We’ve arrived."
Erza stepped out first.
"From here, we split up."
"If anyone discovers traces of Eisenwald, contact me through your terminal immediately."
"Understood?"
"Yes!"
Natsu and Gray immediately sprinted away in opposite directions.
Within seconds, both had disappeared from sight.
Erza gave Lucy a brief nod before vanishing just as quickly.
Lucy remained standing alone in the cave.
"..."
Her shoulders slowly hunched.
She glanced nervously from side to side.
"Waaah..."
"What I was actually trying to ask was..."
"Would anyone be willing to take me with them...?"
With no other choice, Lucy cautiously began searching on her own.
...
Thousands of miles away, inside a private room in Fairy Tail’s guildhall...
Marshall was lying comfortably against Mira while drinking tea and watching the magical projection device in front of them.
Normally, the device was used for viewing news broadcasts.
Very few people ever entered this particular room, so Marshall frequently commandeered it to watch movie Lacrima.
Today, however, he and Mira weren’t cuddled together to watch a movie.
They were watching a live broadcast.
Marshall’s Light Telescope spell was transmitting images from an enormous distance.
The projection had been divided into four separate screens.
Three showed Erza, Natsu, and Gray racing through the wilderness at high speed.
The fourth showed Lucy creeping around nervously, constantly looking over her shoulder like a frightened little hamster.
Mira picked up one of Erza’s carefully hidden cakes and fed Marshall a bite.
"Marshall, how long do you think it’ll take them to locate Eisenwald?"
"I don’t know everything, Mira."
Marshall happily accepted another mouthful.
"Nom~"
"But once they catch even one member, they should find the others pretty quickly."
"With Natsu’s nose, tracking them down afterward will be easy."
Mira giggled.
"But none of those three are particularly good at searching for people."
"Do you think they’ll turn all of Onibus upside down first?"
"I’m so excited to find out~ Hehe~"
"Honestly, Mira."
Marshall gave her a disappointed look.
"How could you think something so terrible?"
"I’m sure they’ll only destroy half the town at most."
"Hopefully Master’s emergency savings are enough to pay for everything."
"Hehehe~"
Mira covered her mouth.
"Master should have received my letter by now."
"I really wish we could see his expression in person~"
"Hahahaha!"
Marshall raised his teacup.
"Cheers~"
"Cheers~"
They clinked their cups together.
Inside the dimly lit room, the two utterly shameless spectators laughed themselves breathless.
One could only wonder how Makarov would feel on the day he finally realized that Fairy Tail had somehow raised two completely ungrateful little monsters!
