Chapter 146: Chapter 146

"Master? What happened?"

When Marshall arrived at the guildhall, he found the place unusually lively.

Makarov sighed.

"That little bastard ran off to do an S-Class request."

"Happy stole a request sheet from the S-Class room, and both Natsu and Lucy disappeared this morning. Gray went after them shortly before you arrived, but I still don’t feel comfortable leaving this alone."

He looked at Marshall.

"Teleport over there and bring all three of them back."

"Uh... that urgent?"

Marshall scratched his cheek.

"Then again, considering it’s Natsu, I can’t exactly say I’m surprised."

Personally, Marshall didn’t think the situation was particularly dangerous.

If he wanted to, he could teleport over immediately and drag all three of them home.

Besides, S-Class request rankings were determined according to Magic Council standards, not Fairy Tail’s own internal standards.

Both Natsu and Gray already possessed more than ten thousand units of magic power. By the standards of an ordinary guild, either one could reasonably qualify as S-Class.

There wasn’t much to worry about.

Mira apparently shared his opinion as she smiled cheerfully.

"Do we really need to send Marshall?"

"Gray might manage to bring Natsu back himself."

"Why don’t we spend our time deciding how to punish Natsu and Lucy when they return instead?"

"Enough joking around!"

Makarov snapped.

"This is serious."

He turned back toward Marshall.

"Please go. The sooner you bring them back, the better."

"Fine, fine."

Marshall shrugged.

"What request did they steal?"

"Where did they go?"

"The request concerning the cursed island."

Makarov’s expression became serious.

"Galuna Island."

"What?!"

Marshall froze.

Galuna Island?

Wasn’t that exactly where Ultear was carrying out her plan involving her mother?

Wait.

Gray was heading there too?

Was this really a coincidence?

Why did Marshall suddenly feel as though certain events were simply destined to collide no matter what anyone did?

He had already been planning to secretly visit the island tonight.

"What exactly does the request say?"

"The islanders are asking someone to save their island," Makarov explained. "The details weren’t written on the sheet, so presumably they intended to explain everything once the Mage arrived."

"But Galuna Island is known as the Island of Demons."

"And anything classified as an S-Class request is bound to involve serious danger."

"Island of Demons?"

Marshall raised an eyebrow.

"There’s an old story that the people living there are cursed and transform into demons."

Makarov shook his head.

"I don’t know whether that part is actually true."

"Hmm..."

Marshall thought for a moment.

"Then I’ll take the quest."

"Huh?!"

Makarov and Mira stared at him in identical shock.

Their expressions were so exaggerated that Marshall actually became self-conscious.

"What?!"

"Can’t I occasionally decide to do a job?"

Makarov coughed.

"You lazy little—"

"Ahem."

"No, no. Of course you can."

"If you’re willing to formally accept it, that actually solves the problem nicely."

"I’ll register Natsu, Lucy, and Gray as your team members. That way, this becomes a legitimate S-Class request instead of three idiots breaking guild rules."

"Works for me."

Marshall waved.

"Then I’m off."

He disappeared.

Makarov sighed again.

"I was originally planning to send Erza after them."

He looked around.

"Speaking of which, where has that girl been lately?"

"Is she still avoiding Marshall after whatever argument those two had?"

Mira narrowed her eyes with an amused smile.

"My~ Who knows?"

"I’m actually rather curious myself."

"I’d love to know what happened between them."

Makarov groaned.

"When all of you were children, I thought things would become easier once you grew up."

"Somehow you’re even more troublesome now."

"Really?"

Mira placed a hand against her cheek.

"I think I’ve improved tremendously."

"Don’t you think I’ve become much gentler?"

"..."

Makarov wisely chose not to answer.

...

Marshall did not teleport to Natsu.

Instead, he went directly to Ultear since she was already on Galuna Island.

The moment Marshall emerged from the spatial distortion, he found himself inside what appeared to be an ancient ruin.

Standing directly in front of him was a man wearing a bizarre mask and absolutely drenched in perfume.

Marshall stared.

"Ultear?"

"What the hell are you wearing?"

The masked figure stiffened.

"L-Little Master... You came."

Marshall’s expression twisted.

"You look ridiculous."

"Can you change back?"

Ultear sounded genuinely aggrieved.

"You disguised yourself as ’Hanna’ when you attended the academy."

"I was still pretending to be a woman, not turning myself into some perfume-soaked masked creep!"

Marshall shook his head.

"Whatever. I don’t care."

"How is your plan progressing?"

Then he remembered the more immediate problem.

"Oh, and I have some bad news."

"Someone from Fairy Tail accepted a request from the islanders."

"They should arrive here very soon."

"Gray is with them."

Marshall looked at her.

"That’s your mother’s disciple."

"Will they interfere with your plan?"

"..."

Ultear remained silent for several seconds.

Then she gave a soft laugh.

"So Gray is coming too."

"Ur’s other disciple, Lyon, is already on this island."

"He’s the one who has been helping me melt Deliora’s seal for the past three years."

Her voice became more complicated.

"Perhaps this really is fate."

"Well, that’s convenient."

Marshall folded his arms.

"You’ve practically gathered the entire family reunion in one place."

"So what’s the plan now?"

"We continue as intended."

Ultear turned toward the deeper part of the ruins.

"We’ll keep using Moon Drip to melt Ur’s ice."

"The ritual has already been running for three years."

"By tomorrow night, I estimate the seal will finally be completely undone."

She hesitated.

Then asked the question she had apparently been carrying for years.

"Marshall..."

"Do you think Ur can still return to normal?"

Marshall looked at her calmly.

"I already gave you my answer a long time ago."

"..."

Ultear lowered her head.

"Sorry, Little Master."

"And stop calling me ’Master’ while you’re wearing that face."

Marshall grimaced.

"It’s disturbing."

"..."

Ultear took a deep breath.

"Once Ur’s ice has been completely melted, I intend to kill Deliora again."

"What Ur couldn’t accomplish back then..."

She clenched one hand.

"I believe I can accomplish now."

Marshall tilted his head.

"Then why did you call me here?"

"Well..."

Ultear suddenly became much less confident.

"I was worried something unexpected might happen."

She gestured vaguely.

"And look."

"Something unexpected already has happened."

"If Gray arrives, he may genuinely interfere with the Moon Drip ritual Lyon and I have spent three years preparing."

Marshall stared at her.

"Am I your master or your babysitter?"

"You’re getting awfully comfortable ordering me around."

"I’m sorry!"

Ultear immediately surrendered.

"Please, please!"

"I’ve been obedient and working hard for you this whole time, haven’t I?"

"Just help me this once~"

"I’ll make it up to you afterward. I promise!"

Marshall gave her a thoroughly unimpressed look.

Still, Ultear quickly explained the situation across Galuna Island in greater detail.

Lyon wanted to defeat Deliora and surpass Ur, while many of the people helping him had lost family members to the demon and carried their own hatred toward it.

The island itself was also unusual.

Galuna Island was an ancient Moon Island, home to mysterious ruins and a ritual altar capable of gathering moonlight energy.

And according to Ultear...

The island’s inhabitants were descendants of demons.

Marshall’s interest sharpened immediately.

"An ancient altar that gathers moonlight energy?"

"And descendants of demons?"

Now that was worth investigating.

He thought for a moment.

"Fine."

"Continue with your original plan."

"I’ll make sure nothing catastrophic happens."

"As for me, I’m suddenly much more interested in this island itself."

Marshall turned toward the ruins.

"Don’t worry about what I’m doing. I’m going to look around."

"Should I tell Lyon about you first?" Ultear asked.

"He and the others might assume you’re an enemy."

"No need."

Marshall waved dismissively.

"There’s nobody on this island capable of threatening me."

"...Fair enough."

Ultear couldn’t really argue.

Her own magic power was only a little above fifty thousand.

Even if she used her Ice-Make Magic seriously, she was no match for Marshall anymore.

Lyon was even further behind, possessing only a little over twenty thousand units.

There truly wasn’t much here capable of worrying him.

Marshall gave Ultear a casual wave and left.

Before dealing with Natsu, Gray, or the Moon Drip ritual, he wanted to investigate Galuna Island’s ancient ruins.

With an old moonlight-gathering altar and an entire population supposedly descended from demons...

There was no telling what he might discover.

---------

This magic power measurement kinda doesnt make sense, Natsu has only 10k magic power while ultear has 50k and later jose will have 530k.. hell gray have more than Natsu.
