Chapter 147: Chapter 147
Marshall wandered alone through the ancient ruins of Galuna Island.
The structures were incredibly old, remnants of an ancient civilization that had built this altar specifically to gather Moon Drip.
Moon Drip was condensed moonlight energy capable of dispelling virtually any kind of Magic, with an especially powerful effect against sealing spells.
Under ordinary circumstances, it was an extremely rare and valuable material.
Yet this ancient altar could gather it with surprising ease.
Marshall found it almost offensive that such a valuable resource point had been sitting here completely unclaimed.
If nobody else wanted it...
Then naturally, it belonged to Fairy Tail.
Once everything on the island was settled, the guild could station people here permanently and harvest Moon Drip as another source of income.
While Marshall was considering the possibilities, he sensed someone approaching.
He turned around.
A pink-haired girl with twin-tails was walking toward him, dressed in an elaborate gothic outfit.
"You. Who are you?"
Her expression became wary.
"You’re not from this island, so you shouldn’t be here. Please don’t resist. Otherwise, I may have to hurt you."
She placed a hand over her chest.
"It’s all for love after all."
[A cute boy? Why is an outsider on the island? I should capture him and bring him to Reitei-sama first.]
Marshall had no intention of hiding.
He simply looked at the strange pink-haired girl for a moment, blinked, and said exactly what came to mind.
"Onee-san, you’re really pretty."
"Eh?"
The girl froze.
"E-Eh?! W-Why would you suddenly say something like that?"
Her face rapidly turned as pink as her hair.
"My heart is beating so fast... C-Could this be love?"
Then she panicked.
"B-But I already have someone I love! Wouldn’t this be wrong?!"
Marshall’s most basic conversational attack had nearly short-circuited her on the spot.
He smiled politely.
"My name is Marshall. It’s nice to meet you, beautiful onee-san."
"I-I’m Sherry!"
She automatically introduced herself.
"Sherry Blendy. It’s nice to mee—"
Sherry suddenly caught herself.
"No, wait! That’s not the point!"
She hurriedly waved her hands.
"Little man, outsiders aren’t supposed to come to this island. I’ll pretend I never saw you this time, so... so you should leave quickly."
Marshall nearly laughed.
This girl didn’t seem particularly bright either.
Naturally, that made him want to tease her.
"Onee-san, do you know where Deliora is?"
Sherry’s expression changed.
"I came to this island to kill it."
"Eh?!"
She stared at him.
"Y-You came here because of Deliora too?"
"Could it be that you also...?"
"That’s right."
Marshall put on a serious expression.
"Someone very important to a friend of mine was killed because of Deliora."
"I came here to help avenge them."
He smiled.
"And despite how I look, I’m actually quite strong."
Before Sherry could react, Spatial Magic shifted around her.
In an instant, she found herself standing directly in front of Marshall.
Her eyes widened.
She hadn’t even been able to resist.
At the same time, she visibly relaxed.
If this mysterious young Mage had the same enemy they did, then perhaps he wasn’t a threat after all.
"I see!"
Sherry brightened.
"Then I’ll take you to meet Reitei-sama!"
"All of us gathered here because we want to defeat Deliora."
"If someone as powerful as you joins us, Reitei-sama will definitely be happy!"
"Sure."
Marshall smiled.
"I’ll leave it to you, then."
It had taken him roughly one minute to infiltrate the "enemy" organization.
...
Meanwhile...
Back in Hargeon, Natsu had ambushed Gray, knocked him unconscious, tied him up, and dragged him aboard a small boat whose owner had agreed to take them to Galuna Island.
Things had gone downhill from there.
After delivering a string of ominous and nearly incomprehensible warnings, the boatman abruptly disappeared, frightening Lucy half to death.
"Waaah! I’m so stupid! I really am!"
Lucy clutched her head.
"I never should’ve let myself get tempted by the promise of a golden key!"
"This job is terrifying! I don’t want to do it anymore!"
"I’m going back to the guild!"
Gray, who was still tied up with rope, glared at her.
"Don’t you think it’s a little late to say that now?!"
"You bastards, untie me!"
Happy raised one paw.
"Aye! Gray, if Erza catches up to us, remember to tell her that Natsu and Lucy forced me to come."
"You damn cat!"
Gray exploded.
"Traitor!"
Natsu, meanwhile, was suffering too badly from motion sickness to care.
"Island..."
He weakly reached toward the horizon.
"Where’s the island...?"
"I’ll swim there..."
"The boatman disappeared!" Lucy shouted. "How am I supposed to know where the island—"
She suddenly stopped.
"Wait."
The water around them began rising.
"Why are the waves getting bigger?"
Her face went white.
"H-Huge wave!"
"AAAAAAAAAH!"
Gray screamed with them.
"This is all your fault!"
A massive wave swallowed the tiny boat and swept Natsu, Lucy, Happy, and the bound Gray away.
A short while later, the sea unceremoniously deposited all of them onto Galuna Island.
They promptly lost consciousness.
...
Elsewhere, Marshall had done far more than simply infiltrate Lyon’s group.
Somehow, he had already become its leader.
The process hadn’t even been particularly complicated.
Sherry brought Marshall directly back to their base and introduced him to Lyon Vastia.
At first, Lyon wasn’t especially pleased to meet him.
Lyon’s objective overlapped with Ultear’s only partially.
On one hand, he wanted to see whether Moon Drip could somehow restore Ur after melting Iced Shell.
On the other, he was determined to defeat Deliora personally and prove that he had finally surpassed his teacher.
Naturally, someone that obsessed with defeating Deliora himself wasn’t enthusiastic about another powerful Mage appearing to steal his opponent.
Marshall resolved the disagreement with remarkable ease.
He "persuaded" Lyon.
Just like Sherry, Lyon discovered that he couldn’t withstand even one casual move from Marshall.
More importantly, Marshall made him a very generous promise.
Lyon could challenge Deliora first.
If he succeeded, Marshall wouldn’t interfere.
If Lyon lost...
Then Deliora would be Marshall’s problem.
Lyon thought about it.
There was actually no downside.
Their objectives didn’t conflict, and now he had an absurdly powerful Mage available as insurance if something went wrong.
Why would he refuse?
After considering the situation further, Lyon decided that the intelligent choice was to firmly attach himself to this enormous new support pillar.
He immediately announced that he would no longer serve as the group’s Reitei and offered the leadership position to Marshall instead.
Marshall’s instincts immediately screamed danger.
"No."
He rejected the title without hesitation.
"I’m not taking that name."
After a moment of thought, however, he came up with one he liked much better.
"From now on, you can call me theEmperor of Love."
He smiled proudly.
"Or Aitei-sama for short."
And thus, Reitei Lyon voluntarily surrendered the position of supreme leader to Aitei Marshall, demoting himself from first-in-command to second.
Marshall didn’t waste any time after taking over.
His first act was to gather everyone and deliver a passionate speech condemning Deliora’s atrocities—and, by extension, the Black Mage Zeref who had created monsters like it.
Marshall spoke directly about the suffering Deliora had inflicted on these people, the families they had lost, and the years they had spent living with hatred and grief.
His words struck home immediately.
These were people who had spent years carrying the same wounds.
For once, someone powerful was standing in front of them and telling them their anger was justified.
Their opinion of their new leader improved dramatically.
Marshall’s second action was more practical.
He gave every member of the group a communication terminal.
Then he personally created a group chat called: Deliora Victims Support Group
"If anything unexpected happens while the plan is reaching its final stage, report it here immediately."
Everyone nodded seriously.
Finally, Marshall released a controlled burst of his magic power.
The overwhelming pressure silenced the entire room.
There was no need for a lengthy explanation.
That single demonstration proved that when Marshall said he could deal with Deliora, he possessed the strength to back up those words.
With generosity in one hand and overwhelming power in the other, Marshall won over the group almost immediately.
Within a remarkably short period of time, Aitei-sama’s reputation was already threatening to overtake Reitei-sama’s.
Which was why...
When Ultear returned to Lyon’s base in a gloomy mood after failing to sufficiently please her Little Master earlier, she stopped dead the moment she entered.
Marshall was sitting comfortably in the leader’s seat.
Everyone else was gathered around him with expressions of obvious respect.
Ultear stared.
’What?’
’How?!’
’I left you alone for barely any time at all!’
’How did you already become the leader of this entire group?!’
’Why are they all looking at you like that?!’
’What the hell did you do to them?!’
Then her eyes moved toward Lyon.
He was standing beside Marshall with the obedient posture of a loyal second-in-command.
’And what happened to YOU?!’
’Where’s all that pride about surpassing Ur?!’
Then she noticed Sherry standing much too close to Marshall.
Ultear’s eye twitched.
’And you!’
’Why are you standing so close to my master, you shameless little bit—?!’
Before Ultear could finish mentally cursing everyone in the room, Lyon noticed her.
And immediately sold her out.
"Aitei-sama."
He gestured toward the masked newcomer.
"This person is called Zalty."
"They joined us not long ago, but they’ve always been suspicious. Hiding their face, refusing to explain their background... I’ve never truly trusted them."
Lyon folded his arms.
"Previously, I kept Zalty around as backup combat strength."
"But now that we have Aitei-sama, we obviously don’t need that anymore."
He looked toward Marshall.
"Should we get rid of them?"
Ultear stared at Lyon from behind the mask.
’Lyon, you—’
’#$%@¥@¥&!!!’
