April

Oh God, my head is so fucking dizzy right now.

How much did I actually drink back at the bathhouse? Oh shit, I’m definitely going to pass out right here on the ground if I don’t hold on to something solid.

I leaned forward and banged my head lightly against the edge of the coffee table set up outside the bookstore, letting out a low groan.

I was sitting under a wide shade umbrella, desperately trying to rest my heavy head for just a little bit.

I was originally supposed to be serving coffee to the outdoor tables today, but sweet Katie took pity on my pathetic state and helped me serve the table I was responsible for.

I honestly don’t even know why that absolute bitch of an Alpha didn’t stop me from drinking way too much in the first place. She just sat there and let me down half a bottle of champagne without a single warning.

Katie came over and sat down right beside me on the bench, staring at my miserable face with a warm, teasing smile.

"Look at you, completely free to drink as much as you want, even right here in broad daylight," Katie sighed softly, resting her chin in her hands. "That used to be me not too long ago."

I already understood what she was trying to say without her having to spell it out. It has been bothering her mind constantly ever since she found out she was pregnant.

I lifted my heavy forehead off the table, blinking through the blurry sunlight to look at her. "You are the one who got yourself knocked up, you know. Now you have to refrain from doing all the things you love to do."

"It’s not like I regret being pregnant at all, because I don’t," Katie whined, burying her face in her arms. "But why don’t I get to drink my absolute favorite cocktail rum anymore? Oh God, I miss it so much."

I stared at the poor girl for a second, and the only response my drunk brain could formulate was, "With great power comes great responsibility."

Katie immediately lifted her head and blinked at me in total confusion. "How on earth does that have anything to do with my current condition? I’m pregnant, for God’s sake, not bitten by some radioactive spider."

"Well, it’s actually kinda similar," I mumbled, leaning back against the bench as the world spun slightly. "Instead of a spider, you were knocked up by twin Alphas, and now you have responsibilities to deal with. A lot of them."

Katie pouted, her eyes narrowing at me. "April, you are supposed to be helping me feel better right now, but you are really not helping at all. I usually put all my pregnancy anger directly on those two Alphas, so don’t force me to include you on that list."

Like she doesn’t, huh..

I instantly had to shut my mouth up. Rule number one: never make a pregnant lady angry. And this specific pregnant lady is completely loco when she gets pushed too far. Even pregnant Abigail is far more bearable to deal with when she gets moody.

Though to be completely honest, I usually end up drinking on her behalf so she won’t feel so left out and angry about her strict diet.

She is the main reason I became such a massive lover of colorful cocktails and cold margaritas over these past few months.

But today’s heavy drinking session wasn’t for her sake at all.

It was entirely for me.

Just seeing those two ghosts from my past here in the resort completely ruined my whole day. I just sincerely hope I don’t run into them ever again while walking around this district.

Angel can go ahead and continue her dramatic Coco pregnancy adventure completely on her own from now on, without including me or waking me up in the absolute middle of the night just to stalk a pair of cats through bushes.

Ugh, God.

Angel is definitely the most loco person in my life, and on top of that, she is a complete crybaby. I never even knew Alphas could cry so much until I started sleeping with one.

"Has it happened yet?" a loud voice suddenly called out across the pavement.

"Did we miss the comet?" another voice yelled right after.

"Please tell me we are actually on time!"

Carlos, Sabrina, and Abigail all arrived out of nowhere, rushing straight under our shade umbrella to join us at the table.

Those frantic three questions were the very first things that came flying out of their mouths the moment they reached us.

Katie stopped sulking and looked at her two Alphas, taking in their sweaty faces and heavy breathing. "What on earth happened? Have you guys been running all the way across the district?"

"Yes, we absolutely have," Carlos gasped out, wiping his forehead with the back of his hand as he looked over at the twins. "The exact moment we heard about it, we had to stop whatever we were doing on the farm and rush straight down here."

"A rare comet is about to pass by, and I am not going to miss it for the entire world," Sabrina said, taking a seat beside Katie. "This is literally the only time of the year it ever happens. We haven’t gotten the chance to see it live before, but Abigail always sends us videos of it. Today is completely different."

I slowly tilted my heavy head back and looked up at the bright blue sky above us, genuinely wondering how on earth they were planning to see a spatial comet approaching when it was extremely sunny out.

"What are you guys even talking about?" Katie asked, voicing the exact confusion sitting in my head.

"Look, it’s Angel we are talking about here," Abigail explained smoothly, setting her event folders down on the surface. "Angel never does a single lick of real work in this district. The only thing she has ever done to earn extra pocket change is running those shady chicken fights. But she gets a massive daily allowance just for being the Master’s daughter and holding that title of Young Master."

I nodded slowly to myself. I knew it all along. That stubborn Alpha doesn’t work a single bit for her lifestyle, getting paid high amounts just for bearing the Morningstar name.

"The Master is coming home very soon," Abigail continued, a sharp grin spreading across her face. "And my mother always forces Angel to take a district job whenever she comes around, just to make her look decently productive and presentable to her own Mother."

As Abigail finished explaining what they actually meant by the sudden appearance of a comet, Carlos immediately started hitting his palms against the table in a rapid rhythm. Abigail and Sabrina quickly pulled out their phones, opening their camera apps to get ready.

"Everybody quiet down, here comes the majestic comet!" Carlos sang out at the top of his lungs.

Cruising down the main pavement on a sleek, self-balancing electric scooter equipped with a high handlebar, wearing black sneakers, a dark sports jersey, athletic shorts, and a matching black helmet, was Angel Morningstar herself.

She was officially patrolling the district as security.

"Oh, Ángel, mira!"1 Sabrina called out loudly to the approaching Alpha, taking endless pictures alongside Abigail and Katie.

Even I had to join in on the chaos, pulling my phone out of my pocket with heavy hands to start videoing the ridiculous sight in front of me.

Angel smoothly hovered her electric scooter right over to our table, bringing it to a graceful stop in front of the umbrella.

She dramatically snapped her fingers in the air and started posing effortlessly for our camera lenses as if she was walking down some high-fashion red carpet preview.

As always, she was acting completely shameless in front of everyone.

Sabrina let out a loud whistle, cheering the Alpha on and demanding that she show off even more of her high-model posing styles.

"What are you doing over there, Angel?" Anthony’s stern voice shouted from down the block, where he was standing near the main crosswalk. "Keep on patrolling and actually do your job right for once!"

"Okay, the exclusive show is over, bye mi amor," Angel said softly, leaning down over the table toward me. "See you tonight."

She leaned in close and pressed a quick, sweet kiss directly onto my lips before turning her scooter around and zooming off down the street to continue her rounds.

My heart instantly made a massive thud inside my chest, beating so fast I could barely draw a proper breath.

Even with my brain scrambled from all the champagne, I understood exactly what mi amor meant in Spanish.

"Ooooooo!" Abigail sang out in a high-pitched voice, pointing a finger at my burning face as the rest of them joined in on the loud teasing. "Angel Morningstar just called you her love!"

They all kept laughing and making noise around the table, while my heart just continued to thud frantically against my ribs.
