Third Person

It was 11:06 in the morning.

Sunlight streamed through the District’s tall trees, casting patches of light and shadow across the forest floor. The leaves moved gently with the breeze, filling the woods with a soft rustling sound.

A short distance away, a large lake stretched between the trees. The surface of the water shimmered under the sunlight, with small waves forming whenever the wind passed over it.

Birds chirped from the branches while the occasional sound of insects filled the quiet woods. The air was fresh and slightly cool beneath the trees, making the place feel peaceful and far away from the noise of the outside world.

Inside the lake, April, Katie, and Abigail were splashing each other with water, laughing as they played.

When Abigail suggested that they go to the beach to swim and enjoy the beach waves, April confessed to them that she couldn’t swim so the girls told her that they were going to be her guide.

The lake wasn’t that deep for practice, April feet could touch the ground and easily for her as baby steps.

April wiped a stream of cool lake water from her round glasses, her dark hair wet and clinging to her neck as she scooped up another handful to throw at Abigail.

"Incoming!" Carlos shouted before diving into the water and creating a huge splash over the girls.

A massive wave erupted over the three of them, drenching April’s face completely and sending Katie into a fit of sudden coughing.

"Carlos!" Abigail screamed, beating the Alpha with water.

She kicked her feet violently under the surface, her palms slapping the lake water right into the blonde boy’s grinning face.

"Hahaha!" Carlos laughed.

He shook his wet hair like a dog, wiping his eyes with his forearm while his deep laughter echoed across the quiet shore.

Another Alpha suddenly dove into the water, creating even more chaos.

A second heavy impact rocked the lake, sending another wall of white foam crashing straight over Katie’s head.

"Sabrina!" one of the girls shouted.

Katie sputtered, wiping her eyes as the blonde girl surfaced right beside her with a broad, mischievous smirk.

"This is so much more fun than I expected," Sabrina said, playing with the water before dragging Katie closer to her.

She wrapped a long arm around Katie’s waist under the clear water, pulling the Omega against her chest without missing a beat.

Sabrina kissed Katie, and then Carlos joined them.

Katie tilted her head back, meeting Sabrina’s lips in a quick, wet kiss before Carlos leaned in from the other side, pressing his own mouth against hers while Katie giggled loudly between the two of them.

"Great. This is supposed to be my wedding celebration, and it looks like it’s the girl with a harem," Abigail said, splashing water at the trio.

Abigail rolled her eyes with a dramatic sigh, though the cheerful grin on her face betrayed how much she was enjoying the chaos.

"If you want to be part of it, invite Javier to join. You won’t be jealous of my sweet babies," Katie teased..

Katie playfully patted Carlos’s wet cheek before turning her head to give Sabrina another lingering kiss on the lips.

"And this is supposed to be just the three of us as friends, not you bringing your romantic partners," April said.

They had been riding their bicycles around the District when the two figures joined them. From cycling, they eventually stopped by the lake to cool down and also help April with swimming and now it has become more than swimming..

"I didn’t bring them. They just happened to be here. If you want to make this even, go find your partner and join the fun," Katie muttered.

Katie pulled away from the twins slightly, resting her hands on their shoulders while treading water with a playful smirk aimed at April.

"Don’t worry. I’m sure yours will soon be joining us," Sabrina said, winking at April.

She brushed a wet strand of blonde hair out of her eyes, flicking a tiny drop of lake water toward April’s face.

"I don’t have any," April said.

She cut her hand through the surface, turning around to face the shoreline, her voice flat and dismissive despite the sudden flutter in her chest.

Even though she understood who they were referring to, since what happened in the room the previous night, April hadn’t seen that devil.

Abigail moved closer, hooking her chin over April’s shoulder while her hands paddled gently underneath the surface to keep them both afloat.

"When are you going to admit you like that girl?" Abigail teased.

Her quiet whisper buzzed right beside April’s ear, making April’s cheeks turn a light shade of red under the warm sun.

"When she agrees that she likes me and also wants only me," April said.

Her tone turned firm, her green eyes fixing stubbornly on the reflection of the clouds floating across the water.

"Angel likes you. She’s just too stubborn to admit it," Sabrina said, resting her head on Katie’s shoulder. "If you want my advice, play hard to get. Angel won’t be able to stop thinking about you."

Sabrina leaned her back against Katie’s chest, looking across at April with the confident gaze of someone who had known Angel her entire life.

"Yes. If you give yourself too easily to someone like Angel, she’ll take advantage of it and treat you like a common gem. But if you play her game, you’ll become a diamond," Abigail added. She nodded along, squeezing April’s arm gently beneath the water to emphasize her point.

"No need to play hard to get. She already likes you. I give her a few days. She’ll tell you she likes you and cannot keep her eyes off you," Carlos said.

Angel’s friends started giving April different kinds of advice. Even April was confused, looking from one person to another.

Carlos insisted that Angel was already hooked, Sabrina urged her to keep pushing the Alpha’s buttons, and Abigail kept telling her to stay firm on her demand for total devotion. April looked back and forth between the four faces surrounding her, her head spinning with all their conflicting opinions.

Then, as they were talking, they heard a twig snap.

CRACK.

The sharp, sudden sound echoed clearly from the edge of the woods, cutting right through their loud conversation.

Someone was approaching.

The heavy thud of someone stepping over dry leaves grew louder as a tall figure pushed past the low hanging branches near the shore.

When the figure got closer, they realized it was Angel, holding a food basket.

She wore a blue shorts and a usual top, exposing her tattoos, her hair slightly messy from the woods, and a large woven picnic basket swinging casually from her broad hand.

Her crimson eyes scanned the water, instantly locking onto April’s wet face.

"Speaking of the devil..."
