Still April
After drying ourselves and changing our clothes, we joined Angel on her so-called picnic.
"What are you all doing?" Angel asked.
She sat cross-legged with her cat in her lap, her eyes flashing with annoyance as the group closed in on her spot.
"Joining you on your little picnic," Sabrina said, she dropped down onto the cloth without waiting for an invitation, her legs stretching out comfortably beside the food containers.
"Who invited you? This is for me and Coco only. Go back to the water," Angel said.
She pulled the orange cat closer to her chest, glaring at everyone with a defensive frown as she protected her space.
"Relax, dude. We know you want us to join, so let us in.. ohhh banana.." Carlos said, then he chuckled leaning over the blanket with his arm extended toward the yellow fruit sitting near the center.
Angel immediately collected the banana from him.
Her broad hand snatched it off the cloth before his fingers could even graze the peel.
"Give me my banana. You are supposed to be full until tonight. Why do you want to eat more?"
She held the banana tight against her ribcage, shooting a sharp, pointed look at Carlos.
Sabrina was about to touch a slice of bread when Angel slapped her hand away.
SNAP.
The light smack echoed in the quiet air, making Sabrina pull her fingers back instantly.
"Don’t touch my food, you too.." Angel warned, acting like a squirrel protecting its pinecones.
She hovered over the containers, her posture turning defensive as she glared at her two friends like a territorial dog.
This was so ridiculous. Why was she acting like that? There was plenty of food here, yet she couldn’t even share.
I shook my head in disbelief, sitting near the very edge of the blanket and keeping my knees pulled tight to my chest while watching her absurd display.
"What is wrong with you, girl? Can you finish all this food all alone, it too much..?" Abigail asked.
Abigail pointed at the stuffed basket, which was practically overflowing with fresh pastries, grapes, berries, and juice boxes.
"You are welcome to join, Abigail... and so are your friends. But these twins are not. They are currently full, so eating will cause overfeeding and indigestion, lot of gas.." Angel flicked her wrist toward Carlos and Sabrina, her voice laced with sharp sarcasm that made Carlos rub his jaw in silence.
Sabrina reacted as though she understood what was going on and why Angel was acting like that.
A knowing grin spread across Sabrina’s face as she leaned back on her palms, her eyes locking onto the red-haired Alpha.
"You really are full of surprises, Ángel. So you want to eat all this food, huh? And not get full?" Sabrina said, her tone smooth and provoking as she nudged the conversation right into dangerous territory.
"Huh? Huh? I love eating so much, especially these fruits. The strawberries, the banana, the grapes, and even this juicy peach..." Angel said, then her eyes landed on me. "And I love them all. And I can have them whenever I want. Not just one, but different fruits."
This was ridiculous. I didn’t understand what was happening, but from the figure of speech, I already knew she was referring to last night.
The memory of her words back in the resort room rushed straight to my head.
You are the favorite food, but I still like other foods.
She was seating right here in front of everyone, using fruit to throw her disgusting lifestyle right back into my face.
All I had asked her was whether she was only going to want to have sex with me. Only..
I was trying to forget about this girl, but everywhere I went, she was always surrounded by people, reminding me that she was some player who shared herself with anyone who caught her eye.
I never used to care about her lifestyle..
And now she was here, bragging about it again.
She sat there like a king on her blanket, smirking behind her orange side kick while rubbing her greedy nature right in front of my nose as if I were supposed to sit here and take it.
"You know what, Angel? You and your Terror of a cat should enjoy your picnic and your harem of foods. I hope you don’t choke on them or get food poisoning from them," I said loudly, looking at her before standing up and turning to leave.
This was ridiculous and annoying.
I didn’t need to sit through another second of her stupid games, watching her boast about how many girls she could sleep with while treating people like options on a menu.
"Where are you going, April?" Abigail called out.
Her voice echoed behind me, filled with concern as she scrambled up from the blanket to watch me walk away.
"Today is Saturday, and I have a place to be," I called back.
I didn’t stop or slow down my pace. I kept my head high, striding quickly toward the row of bicycles parked along the forest trail.
It was still early, but leaving this district and going to the orphanage was way better than seeing that ugly girl’s face.
She could enjoy eating all the food in the district or the entire universe, I don’t give a fuck..
I’m tired of this nonsense...
As for me, I was going to enjoy finding that one eater who wouldn’t mind eating me and loving me only for the rest of their life.
I grabbed the handlebars of my bike, swinging my leg over the seat with a sharp, heavy exhale.
Argh.
I gripped the rubber handles tight, frustration boiling over inside my chest as I kicked the kickstand up.
I really needed to stop with these figurative words.
Her stupid food metaphors were getting into my head, driving me insane even as I rode away from the lake.
And I hoped she meet a girl who would choke her to death. Maybe then she would realize that having one food was way better than trying to have them all.
I slammed my feet onto the pedals, speeding down the dirt path as the forest trees blurred around me, leaving Angel and her picnic far behind in the dust.
