Falling For The True Heiress

Chapter 55: The Future I Feared Has finally Begun...

"Little rascal, go to bed."

Camila folded her arms across her chest and fixed Daniela with an unimpressed look.

Daniela blinked before turning to her with a frown.

"Hey, Mila."

She tilted her head. "Can’t I sleep here too?"

Camila shook her head without hesitation.

"Sorry, Miss. My bed isn’t big enough for the three of us."

Daniela immediately abandoned the argument and came over to me instead. She slipped an arm around mine and rested her chin on my shoulder.

"Lia..."

I laughed softly before looking at Camila.

"Cam, let her stay."

Camila’s lips instantly curled into a pout. She looked so wronged that I almost laughed.

God...

Baby Sylvia was honestly easier to handle than these two.

I rubbed my forehead with a quiet sigh.

"Fine. Suit yourselves."

I climbed onto the bed and settled comfortably against the headboard.

Camila glanced at Daniela. "I’ll let you stay."

Daniela’s eyes sparkled. She had barely taken a step toward the bed when Camila raised a finger.

"But..."

"You only get to stay if I’m the one cuddling Lia."

Daniela stopped in her tracks.

"Mila..."

Camila simply shrugged, looking completely unapologetic. "Those are my terms."

Daniela stared at her for a few seconds before letting out a dramatic sigh.

"Fine."

"But I’m sleeping beside her."

A triumphant smile spread across Camila’s face.

"Deal."

I watched the two of them negotiate over me as if I weren’t even in the room.

A helpless laugh escaped my lips.

Honestly...

These two were impossible.

Daniela climbed onto the bed and lay down behind me.

Before I could even get comfortable, Camila slipped an arm around my waist and pulled me against her.

"Cam," I said with a helpless smile. "You’re supposed to be resting. Don’t make your fever worse."

She only smiled. "I have the best medicine right here."

She lightly flicked my forehead. "As long as you’re in my arms, I’ll be fine, Lia."

She leaned over and pressed a lingering kiss to my forehead before pulling me even closer.

Our bodies were almost pressed together. I could feel the warmth radiating from her skin and the gentle rhythm of her breathing.

She rested her forehead against mine and slowly closed her eyes.

A moment later, another pair of arms wrapped around my waist.

Daniela.

She hugged me from behind, making me freeze.

Camila’s eyes snapped open at once.

She shot Daniela a warning glare.

"Remember our deal."

Daniela let out an exaggerated sigh.

"No creo que pueda hacer eso con Lia tumbada delante de mí. "

She shrugged innocently.

"Así que compartámosla de esta manera."

Camila narrowed her eyes, clearly debating whether to argue.

After a long moment, she huffed.

"Fine."

A triumphant grin spread across Daniela’s face.

She reached over to the bedside table, picked up the remote, and pressed a button.

With a soft click, the lights dimmed one by one until the room was bathed in darkness.

Daniela moved even closer, hugging me from behind as if she had finally won a hard-fought battle.

I was now trapped between the two of them.

A long sigh escaped my lips.

I slowly closed my eyes.

"Sylvia..."

"If you can hear me..."

"Please come and save your babe."

---

A sudden chill stirred me awake. I blinked at the darkness before turning toward Camila.

Something wasn’t right.

Her body was trembling.

My heart skipped a beat. I reached over and pressed the back of my hand against her forehead.

She was burning up.

"Cam..."

I pushed myself up, but she caught my wrist before I could move.

"You’re running a fever."

She didn’t answer.

I gently slipped my hand free and sat on the edge of the bed.

"You really know how to make people worry."

I glanced over my shoulder. Daniela was still fast asleep, one arm draped possessively around my waist.

I carefully tried to lift it away, but she instinctively tightened her grip.

A helpless smile tugged at my lips. I gently patted her hair.

"Go back to sleep."

Her fingers slowly relaxed. Once I was free, I quietly climbed out of bed and opened the bedside cabinet.

The first-aid kit was exactly where I had expected. After searching through it for a few seconds, I found the fever medicine.

"Found it."

I carried the tablets to the bedside table, poured a glass of water from the jug, and returned to Camila.

"Cam."

I sat beside her again. "Sit up for me."

"You need to take your medicine."

She slowly opened her eyes, glanced at the tablets, and frowned.

"I don’t want it."

I sighed. "And what medicine do you want instead?"

A sleepy smile curved her lips. She lifted a hand and slipped it behind my neck before gently pulling me closer.

Our faces were only inches apart.

"This one."

Before I could react, she closed the distance between us. Her lips brushed against mine in a slow, lingering kiss.

My eyes widened.

"Cam..."

I tried to pull away, but despite her fever, she stubbornly refused to let me go.

When she finally drew back, she rested her forehead lightly against mine.

"This..."

She smiled weakly. "...is my medicine."

I stared at her, completely at a loss.

"Cam."

I searched her face. "Is something going on?"

She fell silent. The smile slowly disappeared from her face, and she let go of me and looked away.

For a long moment, neither of us spoke.

Then she quietly let go of me.

"No. I’m fine."

I didn’t believe her. "Then why have you been acting like this?"

The room fell quiet. After a long moment, she slowly looked back at me.

"Give me the water first."

"Cam, don’t change the subject."

She held my gaze for several seconds, and then she stared at the blanket covering her legs before speaking again.

"Do you really want to know?"

"Yes."

She took a slow, shaky breath. "I’m scared, Lia."

My voice softened. "Scared of what?"

She finally looked at me.

"I’m scared that one day..."

She lowered her eyes. "...I’ll stop being the most important person in your life."

The words came out barely above a whisper.

"I want to stay by your side forever. I want to see you every day."

"I want to be the first person you run to whenever something happens."

She paused, her eyes glistening. "I’m scared someone else will take my place."

I quietly listened without interrupting. For the first time, I realized just how deeply that fear had been weighing on her.

I let out a soft sigh and held the glass of water toward her.

"Open your hand."

She looked at me for a moment before slowly doing as I asked.

I placed the two tablets on her palm. "Take your medicine first."

"We’ll talk after."

She lowered her eyes to the tablets.

After a brief hesitation, she placed them in her mouth, took the glass from my hand, and swallowed them with a few mouthfuls of water.

"Good girl," I murmured, a faint smile tugging at my lips.

She handed me the empty glass, and I set it down on the bedside table before turning back to her.

For a moment, I simply looked at her. Then I reached up and gently brushed my fingers through her hair, smoothing the loose strands away from her face.

"Cam."

She slowly lifted her eyes to meet mine.

"Listen to me. No matter what happens..."

"You’ll always be important to me."

She didn’t answer. She just kept looking at me, her eyes searching mine as though she were trying to find even the smallest hint of hesitation.

I smiled softly. "And you’ll always be my baby."

"Nothing is going to change that."

Her expression gradually softened. She reached up and covered my hand with hers, her fingers slipping between mine before she leaned into my touch.

"Are you sure?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

I nodded without looking away. "I’m sure."

A quiet smile spread across her face. The fear in her eyes slowly disappeared.

She closed her eyes and rested her cheek against my palm, holding my hand as though it were the only reassurance she needed.

"Thank you, Lia," she whispered.

A soft smile spread across my face.

"That’s my girl."

I gently slipped my hand from hers and rose to my feet.

"So..."

"Your only job now is to get some sleep. Can you do that for me?"

She looked up at me and smiled. "I can."

I helped her lie back against the pillows before carefully pulling the blanket up to her shoulders.

"Good."

I brushed a few strands of hair away from her face, my fingers lingering for a moment.

"Sleep."

She closed her eyes without another word. I stayed beside her, absentmindedly stroking her hair until her breathing became slow and even.

I stayed there for a while, watching her peaceful sleeping face.

A small smile tugged at my lips as I quietly climbed back into bed.

Camila instinctively curled against me in her sleep, while Daniela, still fast asleep, tightened her arm around my waist.

I let out a silent, helpless laugh.

"You two..."

A small smile lingered on my lips as I closed my eyes. Not long after, sleep claimed me too.

~~~~~ Third-person POV ~~~~~
The bedroom door slowly creaked open.
A tall figure stepped silently into the room.
Mr. Everton.
He closed the door without a sound and slowly walked toward the bed. His footsteps stopped a few feet away.
For a long moment, he simply stood there.
Moonlight spilled through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a pale glow across the room.
Camila slept peacefully, her arms wrapped securely around Amelia’s waist, her face buried against her shoulder.
On the other side, Daniela had one arm draped possessively around Amelia’s waist, refusing to let go even in her sleep.
Caught between the two girls, Amelia slept soundly, completely unaware of the scene before her.
A complicated look crossed Mr. Everton’s face.
He watched them in silence before letting out a long, weary sigh.
A bitter smile touched his lips.
"So..."
"I couldn’t stop it after all."
His gaze lingered on the three girls. "It seems..."
"...the future I feared has finally begun."
