Falling For The True Heiress

Chapter 68: Come And Kiss Me, Please...

Behind him, the large LED screen flickered to life.

A single sentence appeared across it in elegant silver letters.

COMING NEXT YEAR

Beneath it, another line slowly faded into view.

A BRAND NEW NOVEL BY SHADEDNIGHT

The audience froze.

For one heartbeat, the convention center was completely silent.

Then the room exploded with deafening cheers. It erupted inside the convention center, unlike anything that had happened all afternoon.

People shot to their feet.

Some screamed.

Others clapped so hard their hands began to sting.

"Oh my God!"

"She’s writing another one!"

"I knew it!"

"I can’t wait!"

The cheers rolled through the hall in wave after wave. Even the reporters exchanged excited glances before hurriedly speaking into their microphones.

"This is huge," one reporter whispered.

"They’ve just announced a brand-new novel from Shadednight."

Camera shutters clicked nonstop as every news outlet tried to capture the audience’s reaction.

The MC laughed, waiting for the excitement to settle.

"I was wondering how long it would take before everyone calmed down."

The audience laughed, though the excitement remained palpable.

He turned toward Sylvia. "I believe everyone has the same question."

He smiled. "Can you tell us anything about your next novel?"

The hall immediately fell silent. Thousands of expectant eyes turned to Sylvia.

She looked at the audience, then at the enormous screen behind her.

A small, amused smile curved her lips.

"I had a feeling someone would ask."

Laughter spread throughout the hall.

She took a sip of water before setting the glass back on the table.

"I can’t reveal too much."

A playful groans echoed through the audience.

Sylvia laughed softly. "If I told you everything today..."

She tilted her head slightly. "...my editor would probably ban me from future interviews."

The audience burst into laughter. Even the publishing executives shook their heads with amused smiles.

"But..."

She paused just long enough to make everyone lean forward.

"I can give you one small hint."

Every phone in the audience rose into the air, ready to record.

Sylvia looked across the sea of eager faces.

"My next story..."

She smiled. "...will be completely different from Falling For The True Heiress."

Curious murmurs spread through the hall.

"It won’t be another heiress story."

"It won’t even be set in the same world."

The audience listened intently.

"But..."

Her eyes sparkled with quiet confidence. "It will still be a story about finding hope when everything seems lost."

Silence settled over the room.

"And..."

She added with a teasing smile, "I’ve already fallen in love with the characters."

A wave of delighted applause swept through the audience.

One reader suddenly called out from the crowd. "Will you make us cry again?"

The entire hall erupted with laughter.

Sylvia covered her mouth, laughing. "I’ll neither confirm nor deny that."

The laughter grew even louder.

Another voice shouted, "Please give us a happy ending this time!"

She pretended to think for a moment. "I’ll do my best..."

She paused mischievously. "...but no promises."

The crowd groaned dramatically before laughing again.

The MC smiled as he watched the exchange.

"I think it’s safe to say everyone is already counting down the days."

The audience answered with thunderous applause.

Sylvia looked around the convention center one last time.

The smiling faces.

The books held tightly against readers’ chests.

The gifts piled neatly beside her signing table.

The flowers.

The letters.

Every one of them was a reminder of the journey that had brought her here.

She stepped toward the microphone.

"Before we end today’s event..."

The hall grew quiet once more.

"I just want to say thank you." Her voice was soft, yet it carried to every corner of the convention center.

"Years ago, I started writing because I had a story I wanted to tell."

She looked down briefly before lifting her gaze again. "I never imagined that story would bring me here... or bring me all of you."

Everyone suddenly became quiet.

"So, from the bottom of my heart..."

"Thank you for believing in my words."

"Thank you for laughing with my characters."

"Thank you for crying with them."

"And thank you..."

Her smile warmed. "...for making this dream one I never have to walk alone in."

Every person in the convention center rose to their feet, clapping loudly.

Sylvia placed a hand over her heart and bowed deeply to the crowd.

Flashes from hundreds of cameras illuminated the stage, preserving the moment that readers and the literary world would remember for years to come.

The applause continued long after Sylvia straightened from her bow.

It echoed through the convention center, filling every corner of the hall.

For nearly a full minute, no one sat down.

Many readers wiped away tears. Others smiled so widely their cheeks ached.

Sylvia stood quietly, one hand resting over her heart as she took in the sight before her.

It didn’t feel real.

Not after all those years.

The lonely nights.

The countless drafts she had rewritten.

The Chapters she had nearly deleted.

The moments she had wondered if anyone would ever care about the stories living inside her mind.

Yet here they were.

Thousands of people.

Smiling.

Laughing.

Crying.

Because of those very stories.

She blinked quickly, forcing back the sting in her eyes.

Across the front row, Amelia watched her with quiet pride. The corners of her lips lifted into a gentle smile.

She knew exactly what Sylvia was thinking.

The MC finally stepped forward again.

"On behalf of everyone here today..."

He looked around the packed convention center.

"...thank you for celebrating this incredible milestone with us."

The audience applauded once more.

"We would also like to thank every member of our organizing team, our publishing partners, the media, our volunteers, security personnel, and, most importantly..."

He turned toward Sylvia.

"...our readers."

The crowd erupted into cheers.

"You are the reason stories continue to live."

Another round of applause followed immediately.

The MC smiled. "This officially concludes today’s launch event."

Disappointed groans rose from the audience, followed by laughter.

"I know..."

He chuckled. "I wish it could go on forever too."

The audience laughed along with him.

"But before everyone leaves..."

He gestured toward the exit. "We’ve prepared refreshments in the reception hall."

Another wave of excited chatter swept through the crowd.

"Our merchandise booth will also remain open for the next two hours, and the collector’s edition will be available in limited quantities while supplies last."

That announcement alone sent another ripple of excitement through the audience.

Readers immediately began whispering to one another, already planning who would head to the merchandise booth first.

The event staff slowly opened the velvet barriers, guiding people toward the designated exits in an orderly manner.

Although the program had officially ended, very few people seemed eager to leave.

Many stayed near the stage, taking photographs. Others chatted excitedly with fellow readers they had met while waiting in line.

Some proudly held up their newly signed books, posing for pictures beneath the giant backdrop that read:

FALLING FOR THE TRUE HEIRESS

BOOK LAUNCH & MEET THE AUTHOR

Near the front row, journalists hurriedly packed away their equipment while exchanging excited comments.

"This will be tomorrow’s headline."

"No doubt."

"Shadednight’s first public appearance exceeded every expectation."

Across the hall, social media influencers were already filming short videos.

"I was actually here!"

"I still can’t believe I met her!"

"My hands are literally shaking."

Within minutes, photos and videos from the event began flooding every major social media platform.

Clips of Sylvia hugging the young reader.

The elderly grandfather receiving the first collector’s edition.

The little boy smiling proudly with his mother’s birthday gift.

The university students presenting their handmade scrapbook and painting.

Her announcement about a brand-new novel.

Every unforgettable moment spread across the internet at astonishing speed.

Backstage, however, everything felt strangely quiet.

The heavy doors closed behind Sylvia with a soft click, shutting out the roar of the crowd.

For the first time that day...

She let out a slow breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.

Then she laughed. A small, breathless laugh.

"I think..."

She glanced at Melissa, who was sitting down on the big couch.

"...my legs have finally remembered they’re tired."

Melissa smiled, stepping closer.

"I was wondering how long it would take you to admit it."

Sylvia laughed again, the tension finally melting from her shoulders.

"I don’t think I’ve smiled this much in one day before."

Melissa gently picked up the crochet flower, the box of tea, and the stack of handwritten letters that had been carefully gathered by the staff.

"They love you."

Sylvia looked down at the gifts for a long moment.

Then she smiled. "No."

She carefully picked up the tiny crochet flower herself.

"They love the stories."

Melissa met her eyes for a second.

"And those stories exist because of you."

For a moment, Sylvia didn’t answer. She simply held the little handmade flower in her palm, tracing the delicate stitches with her thumb.

Then, with a quiet smile that reached her eyes, she whispered,

"I suppose..."

"...we finally made it."

Melissa nodded slowly. "Yes, Sylvia..."

"You did it."

Sylvia smiled at Melissa before looking away.

"Where’s my phone?" she asked, glancing around the room.

Just then, the door opened.

Drake walked in.

"Looking for this?"

He lifted her phone with a faint smile.

Sylvia frowned. "Why do you have my phone?"

Drake only shrugged as he walked over.

"Just helping out."

He placed the phone gently into her hand.

Sylvia looked at him for a moment.

"I didn’t—"

Her phone suddenly vibrated, cutting her off.

She lowered her gaze to the screen. The moment she saw the sender’s name, her face lit up.

Without sparing Drake another glance, she leaned back against the sofa and unlocked her phone.

Amelia: Babe, I’m missing you like mad.

A second message popped up almost immediately.

Amelia: Babe, come and kiss me, please.

A soft laugh escaped Sylvia’s lips.

She quickly typed a reply.

Sylvia: Where are you?

The response came almost instantly.

Amelia: I’m outside.

Sylvia blinked.

"Outside?"
