Sylvia stood up immediately and headed for the door.
Melissa quickly stepped in front of her, raising a hand to block her path. She frowned.
"Where are you going?"
Sylvia pointed toward the door. "Outside."
"Outside?" Melissa echoed, leaning in slightly, tilting her head. "And what exactly is waiting for you outside?"
"None of your business."
Melissa scoffed.
"Seriously?"
Then she folded her arms across her chest.
"You can’t go out now. Don’t forget you still have a press interview."
"Interview?" Sylvia frowned. "What interview?"
Melissa shrugged. "I’m sorry, baby girl, but it’s already scheduled."
Then a teasing smile appeared on her face.
"So... who exactly are you rushing outside to see?"
Sylvia looked at her without hesitation.
"Amelia."
"Amelia?" Melissa repeated the name, trying to remember where she’d heard it before.
"Oh... your sister."
Not my sister.
My girlfriend.
The words stayed in Sylvia’s mind, but she didn’t say them aloud.
She simply nodded.
"Mmm."
Melissa smiled and gently patted her head.
"How about I bring her in for you instead?"
Sylvia’s face lit up immediately. "Okay."
She smiled before walking back to the couch and sat down.
~~~~~ Amelia’s POV ~~~~~
When the event finally came to an end, I was happier than everyone else.
Most of the readers looked disappointed that it was over.
Me?
I couldn’t wait for it to end.
I had been holding myself back for hours because all I wanted was to hug Sylvia.
I missed her so much that I had deliberately skipped the signing session.
If I had gone up there...
I might have lost control and kissed her in front of everyone.
I smiled to myself.
She could always sign my book later. Maybe she’d sign something else too.
I stood up and smoothed the wrinkles from my gown.
"Let’s go, Cam."
Camila smiled and stood up beside me.
As we walked toward the exit, she glanced at me.
"Lia."
"Hm?"
"How about I buy the collector’s edition? What do you think?"
Immediately, an idea crossed my mind.
Good.
That would give me the perfect excuse to find Sylvia.
I smiled and nodded. "That sounds good."
Camila took the car keys from her bag and handed them to me.
"Why don’t you wait in the car while I buy it?"
I looked down at the keys.
If Sylvia came out before Camila returned, where would she wait?
I looked back at Camila. "How about I wait beside the car instead? At least I can look around while I’m waiting."
Camila stared at me for a moment before sighing. "Fine."
She pointed a finger at me. "But don’t wander too far."
I smiled immediately. "I won’t."
She turned and headed toward the merchandise booth.
The moment she disappeared into the crowd, I looked around before pulling my phone from my clutch.
I unlocked it, opened my messages, and sent Sylvia a text.
Almost immediately, a reply appeared.
Sylvia: Where are you?
I blinked in surprise.
"Isn’t she supposed to be busy?" I muttered.
I smiled and typed back.
Amelia: I’m outside.
After sending the message, I walked toward the private entrance where Sylvia had disappeared earlier.
Several security guards stood outside the door.
I stopped a few steps away.
"How am I supposed to get in?" I muttered.
Just then, my phone vibrated again.
I quickly pulled it from my clutch and checked the screen.
Sylvia: Someone will come and get you.
Almost as soon as I finished reading the message, the door opened.
Melissa stepped outside and glanced around until her eyes landed on me.
She smiled and waved.
"How does she know me?" I whispered in surprise before walking over.
The security guards stepped aside, allowing me through.
Melissa smiled warmly as I approached.
"Hi."
"Amelia, right?"
I nodded.
"Yes."
"This way."
She gestured for me to follow her.
"Thank you."
I walked behind her, taking in the elegant decorations as we made our way down the hallway.
A few moments later, we stopped in front of a large wooden door.
Melissa turned to me with a smile.
"You can go in."
I looked at her, then at the door.
"Thank you."
Taking a deep breath, I slowly pushed it open.
The moment the door swung inward, Sylvia looked up.
She had been sitting on the couch with her phone in her hands.
The instant she saw me, her face lit up.
"Minnie!"
I smiled and opened my arms.
Without hesitation, she jumped to her feet and ran straight into them.
I wrapped my arms tightly around her, closing my eyes as I breathed in her familiar scent.
God...
I had missed this.
After a few moments, I opened my eyes. That was when I noticed the man sitting across the room.
The same man who had helped Sylvia out of the car earlier.
Sylvia slowly pulled away before turning toward him.
"Drake, could you give us a moment?"
He frowned.
"Why?"
He stood up.
"Can’t things be the way they used to be?"
Used to be?
The words echoed in my mind.
I looked at him, then at Sylvia.
What exactly was their relationship before?
Sylvia held his gaze for a moment before looking away.
"Please leave."
Her voice was calm but firm.
When he didn’t move, she looked back at him.
Sylvia’s expression hardened. "Get out."
There was no room for argument this time.
Drake shot me one last cold glare before walking toward the door.
As he passed me, he paused briefly to look me over before walking out and quietly closing the door behind him.
I was still staring at it when Sylvia gently took my hand.
"Minnie."
I turned to her and smiled faintly.
"How did you know I was here?" she asked.
"I came to the book launch."
I smiled. "And imagine my surprise when I found out my girlfriend is actually the mysterious author everyone has been talking about."
Sylvia laughed. "Really?"
Then she tilted her head. "But why didn’t you join the signing session?"
I looked at her for a long moment.
"Because I might have lost control."
She blinked. "Control of what?"
I smiled and slowly stepped closer.
"Control of kissing you."
"Minnie..."
Sylvia whispered, biting her lower lip.
My heart skipped a beat.
Damn.
She had no idea what that tiny gesture did to me.
My gaze dropped to her lips before returning to her eyes.
"If you bite your lip like that one more time..."
I gently cupped her face.
"I’m going to kiss you until your lips are swollen, and then you won’t be able to go back out there."
Sylvia’s cheeks turned pink and she smiled mischievously.
"What if..."
She bit her lip again. "...I want that?"
I closed my eyes for a second.
This girl...
She really knew how to test my self-control.
I looked away and started walking toward the couch.
Before I could take another step, Sylvia caught my wrist.
I looked down at her fingers wrapped around it before meeting her eyes again.
"I missed you, Minnie."
Everything she couldn’t say was already written in her eyes. They always spoke louder than her words.
"Please..."
Her voice softened.
"Don’t hold back."
I looked at her and slowly bit the inside of my cheek.
God knew how badly I wanted to kiss her right there.
To hold her.
To lose myself in her.
But I also knew she still had interviews and responsibilities.
The last thing I wanted was to make things harder for her.
"Please... Minnie."
She leaned in and pressed her lips against mine before pulling away, making the last of my self-control begin to crack.
"Sylvia..."
Before I could say anything else, she leaned in and kissed me again.
That was all it took.
Every bit of restraint inside me shattered.
I cupped the back of her neck and kissed her back.
Her lips were always so soft...
So sweet.
I kissed her gently at first, then slowly deepened the kiss, unable to resist her any longer.
Sylvia wrapped her arms tightly around my waist, pulling herself closer.
A few moments later, I reluctantly pulled away and quickly glanced around the room.
My eyes searched for any CCTV cameras.
The last thing I wanted was to do anything that might tarnish her image.
She seemed to understand exactly what I was looking for.
Reaching out, she gently took my hand.
I looked at her apologetically.
"I’m sorry."
Sylvia shook her head with a soft smile.
"Minnie, you’re my girlfriend."
"You have every right to kiss me."
Before I could respond, she leaned forward and captured my lips once more.
I immediately pulled her closer to me and grabbed her butt cheeks through her clothes.
She let out a quiet, breathless gasp.
"Minnie..."
I smiled and continued kissing her, going deeper as I explored her mouth, taking in everything I had missed.
Everything about her that I had missed since yesterday.
I pulled away and kissed her forehead before bending down slightly to suck gently on the sensitive skin of her neck.
Sylvia reached out, cupped my right breast, and gave it a gentle squeeze.
"Ahh~!"
