Falsely Accused, I Started Plundering Monster Traits
Chapter 13: [Trollblood I.][Trollblood I.]
[Effect: Greatly enhances the user’s overall physical capabilities.]
Lin Yan frowned.
"System, what kind of effect is that? Why is the description so vague?"
[The degree of enhancement varies depending on the user’s original physique.]
"What the hell did that mean?"
[The weaker the user’s original physique, the greater the enhancement. The stronger the user becomes, the less improvement the trait provides.]
Lin Yan suddenly grew concerned.
"Don’t tell me I’m already too strong to get much out of it."
[You are thinking far too highly of yourself.]
The system offered no further explanation.
A second line appeared beneath it.
[Quality: Pseudo-Green.]
Lin Yan stared at the unfamiliar classification.
From the lottery menu, he knew there were six grades: Gray, White, Green, Blue, Purple and Gold.
This one looked green. Its border was a murky shade of green, but thin white cracks ran through it.
"System, what the hell is this supposed to be?"
[A Pseudo-Green trait possesses effects comparable to a Green-grade trait, but contains defects that prevent it from being classified as a true Green trait.]
"So it’s strong, but there’s something wrong with it."
[Correct.]
The defects were the problem.
"What exactly is wrong with it?"
[The first side effect is a minor reduction in cognitive ability.]
Lin Yan’s expression changed.
"Becoming stupid counts as minor?"
[The reduction is limited. An individual with lower intelligence may experience a noticeable decline, while an individual with sufficiently high intelligence will experience little meaningful difference.]
He considered that explanation.
"So someone stupid would become even stupider, but a smart person would basically be fine."
[Correct.]
"Then I should be fine."
[Yes. You are intelligent.]
Lin Yan nodded.
"What’s the other defect?"
[Certain parts of the body may develop beyond their normal proportions.]
"Which parts?"
[The result differs between individuals.]
Lin Yan considered it for a moment.
Even after losing a little intelligence, he would probably still be smarter than most people. As for the other defect, he could always unequip the trait if it turned out to be a serious problem.
"Replace Goblin Language Proficiency I with Trollblood I."
[Confirm replacement?]
"Do it."
[Replacement complete.]
For the first second, nothing happened.
Then Lin Yan’s entire body tightened.
Heat surged from the center of his chest and spread through his bones. His spine straightened with a series of deep cracks, forcing him to lift his head as his body continued rising. The sleeves of his jacket pulled back from his wrists, his trousers climbed above his shoes, and the collar tightened around a neck that was becoming noticeably thicker.
His muscles followed.
Lin Yan had never been skinny. At around one hundred and seventy-five centimeters, he had carried enough muscle for the shape of his shoulders and arms to remain visible, although there had still been a layer of softness over his stomach and chest.
That body disappeared within seconds.
His shoulders widened until the jacket pulled tight across his back. His arms thickened, veins rising beneath the skin as his forearms pressed against the sleeves, while his chest and thighs expanded hard enough to strain the fabric around them.
Lin Yan looked down at himself.
He hooked the fingers of his left hand beneath his shirt and pulled it up. The layer of softness that had once covered his stomach was gone. Deep lines now divided the muscles beneath, and they felt dense and solid when he pressed his palm against them.
He moved his hand over his chest, then squeezed his thickened arm.
Holy shit.
Is this really me?
Before, he had looked like someone who worked out regularly. Now, he looked like he could step directly onto a Mr. Olympia stage.
A Pseudo-Green trait is already this fucking ridiculous?
Another surge ran through his body. Lin Yan braced his left hand against the wall.
His heart pounded inside his chest, each beat loud enough for him to hear.
When the transformation finally stopped, his eye level was much higher than before.
He looked down at his shortened trouser legs.
"System."
[Yes?]
"How tall am I now?"
[Approximately one hundred and eighty-five centimeters.]
Ten centimeters.
He had grown ten centimeters in less time than it took to boil water.
Lin Yan looked down at the damaged, bloodstained clothes stretched tightly across his new body. Even without a mirror, there was no hiding how much he had changed.
The transformation had not fixed everything, however.
His right shoulder still hurt badly, and the arm remained difficult to move. Whatever Trollblood I had done to his body, the damage already there remained.
Lin Yan tried to rotate the shoulder. A sharp pain immediately ran down his arm.
Fine. Instant healing would’ve been asking for too much.
He could test the rest with his left hand.
Lin Yan stepped toward Gorak’s iron hammer, but before he reached it, something at the front of his trousers pressed against the fabric hard enough to become impossible to ignore.
He stopped.
Then he looked down.
The change had not only affected his height and muscles.
Lin Yan pulled the waistband forward with his left hand and checked inside.
He remained silent for several seconds.
"System."
[Yes?]
"This is the other side effect?"
[It is one of the physical changes caused by Trollblood I.]
Lin Yan checked again, just to make sure the transformation had not distorted his sense of scale.
It had not.
"You called this a defect?"
[Correct.]
"This isn’t a defect."
[That is a matter of individual judgment.]
Lin Yan released the waistband.
This trait was becoming more valuable by the second.
He continued toward the hammer. Gorak had swung the weapon with one hand, but the iron head was nearly as large as Lin Yan’s torso had been before the transformation. An ordinary person would have had no chance of lifting it off the ground; dragging it along with both hands would already have been difficult enough.
Lin Yan bent down and wrapped his left hand around the handle.
He expected resistance.
The hammer came off the ground so easily that his arm rose higher than intended.
Lin Yan stared at it.
He adjusted his grip, lifted the weapon onto one shoulder and gave the handle an experimental turn. The iron head swept through the air with a low whistle before stopping beside him.
This was not even his dominant hand.
His right arm was injured, and he was still swinging Gorak’s weapon with his left as though it were a slightly heavy broom.
"What the hell?"
He stepped away from the wall and swung again, this time putting more force behind it. The hammer crossed his body in a clean horizontal arc, dragging enough air behind it to stir the mud near his feet.
If that struck a normal goblin, there would probably be nothing left above its shoulders.
Lin Yan looked at Gorak’s crushed skull.
If I’d had this five minutes ago, I could’ve beaten Gorak to death with one hand.
"System, did Brawn I stack with Trollblood I?"
[Yes.]
"How?"
[When compatible traits are equipped simultaneously, higher-grade effects are applied first. Lower-grade effects are then calculated from the resulting state.]
Lin Yan understood immediately.
"Trollblood changes my base body first, and then Brawn doubles the strength of that body."
[Essentially.]
He looked at the hammer in his left hand again.
One strong trait was already valuable. Two traits that strengthened each other were something else entirely.
A grin slowly spread across Lin Yan’s face.
And this was only two.
A burst of static came from the radio on his belt.
"Lin Yan?"
Jason’s voice pulled his attention away from the hammer.
Lin Yan pressed the transmission button with his left thumb.
"What?"
"You’ve been standing outside the door for almost two minutes," Jason said. "Are you all right?"
Lin Yan looked toward the reinforced equipment-area door.
The dent left by Gorak’s hammer was still visible in the center of it.
"Why haven’t you opened the door?"
There was a brief silence on the other side.
"You told us not to open it unless we heard your voice over the radio."
Lin Yan stared at the door.
"And you’re hearing my voice now."
"We weren’t sure whether you wanted us to open it."
"I told you to wait for my voice. I didn’t tell everyone inside to stop using their brains."
Another pause followed.
"So... should we open it now?"
Lin Yan rested Gorak’s hammer on his left shoulder.
"Yes, Jason."
