Falsely Accused, I Started Plundering Monster Traits
Chapter 15: Not My ProblemLin Yan leaned back against the wall.
"System."
[Yes?]
"What happens after we clear this convergence?"
[Once the invading side has been eliminated, the convergence boundary will collapse. The affected area will reconnect with the surrounding world.]
"So the station goes back to normal?"
[The isolation effect will end.]
That was not quite the same answer.
Lin Yan looked toward the surveillance screens. Several still showed the station platforms and the abandoned train, while the equipment-area feeds were mostly static.
"What happens to the goblin corpses?"
[They will remain.]
"And the cavern?"
[Foreign matter introduced during the convergence will remain after the boundary collapses.]
Lin Yan frowned.
"What about the parts that fused into the station?"
[Structural changes caused by the convergence will also remain.]
He remembered the tunnels of wet stone, the goblin camp built across the remains of an abandoned platform and the old train carriage half swallowed by the cavern wall.
None of that would disappear.
The convergence ending would not restore the station. It would only reconnect the ruined area with the rest of the city.
Lin Yan imagined the amount of stone buried across the tracks, the damaged cables, the broken doors and the train trapped underground.
How much would it cost to dig all that out and get the line running again?
Probably enough to make someone cry.
He thought about it for another two seconds.
Not my problem.
Lin Yan shifted on the bench and tried to find a comfortable position. It had been designed for ordinary station employees, not someone with Lin Yan’s new frame. His shoulders barely fit against the wall, and his lower legs hung over the end.
He closed his eyes anyway.
Lin Yan adjusted his injured arm across his stomach.
"Wake me if something breaks through the door."
Marcus nodded. "Got it."
Lin Yan closed his eyes.
Less than a minute later, his breathing became slow and even.
The control room remained quiet at first. Then whispers gradually rose near the consoles.
"He ate almost half the food."
"What if we’re trapped here for several days?"
A few of them glanced toward Marcus.
One of the passengers finally said, "You should talk to him."
Marcus turned toward them.
"Got a problem with it? Go tell him yourself."
The whispers immediately stopped.
Marcus looked away and muttered under his breath.
"Just because I’m willing to help doesn’t mean I’m your damn pushover."
A low snore came from the rest area.
Lin Yan lay with one arm resting across his stomach, his head tilted against the wall and his feet hanging off the end of the bench. The emergency lights and faint conversations around him did not seem to bother him at all.
No one dared to wake him.
Several hours later, Lin Yan opened his eyes.
The emergency lights were still on. Nothing about the room indicated whether it was night or morning, and most of the passengers were asleep against the walls or beneath the consoles.
Marcus sat beside the equipment-area door with the chipped axe across his knees. His head had fallen forward, but he woke the moment Lin Yan moved.
Lin Yan sat up and raised his right arm.
The sharp pain was gone.
He rotated the shoulder once, then bent his elbow and clenched his fist. The arm moved normally. Only a dull pulling ache remained along the inside of his upper arm, near where the biceps narrowed toward the elbow.
It felt like the soreness left after an arm-wrestling match where both sides had refused to give up and kept forcing long after they should have stopped.
Lin Yan tightened the muscle again.
A little painful.
Nothing serious.
The injury that had left his arm almost useless was now nearly healed after a few hours of sleep.
Trollblood I and Minor Regeneration I worked well together.
Very well.
"Replace Minor Regeneration I with Battle Instinct I."
[Confirm trait replacement?]
"Do it."
[Replacement complete.]
The warmth inside his arm faded. A familiar clarity settled behind his eyes instead, sharpening his awareness of the room and every person moving within it.
Marcus stood.
"How’s your arm?"
Lin Yan rolled his shoulder once more.
"Good enough."
He walked to the wall, closed his left hand around Gorak’s hammer and lifted it onto his shoulder.
The movement woke several nearby passengers.
They watched him cross the control room.
Jason turned away from the surveillance screens.
"You’re going back out?"
Lin Yan looked at the surveillance feed covering the platform.
The train sat beneath the red emergency lights. Behind one of its dark windows, a small shadow moved past.
He smiled.
"Time to finish this."
