Let’s find out.

Sahir had already nocked another arrow at the doorway, bowstring drawn taut. The moment Lin Yan’s right hand slipped inside his ballistic vest, the arrow shifted with him, tracking whatever part of him remained exposed. The fingers on the string loosened slightly—a clear warning that the arrow would fly the moment he gave Sahir an opening.

Lin Yan caught all of it.

Motherfucker, still trying to scare me? Just wait. I’ll make damn sure I desecrate your corpse.

Without taking his eyes off Sahir, Lin Yan drew the silver-and-black revolver and raised the muzzle beside the old knight.

Sahir had no idea what it was, but instinctively shifted aside the moment it came up.

Lin Yan’s sights followed his head.

BANG—!!

The gunshot cracked first. The bullet struck Sahir, his fingers went slack, and the bowstring snapped forward. The arrow slammed into the old knight’s shoulder plate and bounced away with a sharp metallic crack.

Lin Yan glanced down at the revolver in his hand.

"So it really can be used like this."

As soon as the words left his mouth, a System notification appeared.

[Green Trait obtained — Archery II]

[Effect: Grants the user master-level archery. The user’s technique, experience, and battlefield judgment become equivalent to those of a naturally gifted archer who has devoted more than thirty years to the craft.]

It actually dropped Archery.

Lin Yan had half expected another situation like that man-eating bear—something built like a mountain of muscle, only for the System to hand him a Willpower Trait instead. When Nadir died, he seemed to remember a green notification flashing at the edge of his vision as well. With a thought, he pulled it up.

[Green Trait — Blade Arts II]

[Effect: Grants the user master-level blade arts. The user’s technique, experience, and battlefield judgment become equivalent to those of a naturally gifted practitioner who has devoted more than thirty years to the craft.]

Not bad. Neither one whiffed.

With nobody trying to kill him for the moment, Lin Yan took the chance to check the rest of his haul.

He’d killed plenty during the earlier pincer attack, then swept the flesh mound with the M2. System notifications had piled up throughout the fighting, but he’d had no time to check them.

Opening his Trait Library brought all those gains up at once. Several hundred new Traits filled the list, overwhelmingly White, stretching across page after page. Their effects ranged from combat and survival to all kinds of practical trades.

Weapon skills, shield techniques, hand-to-hand combat, perception, masonry, carpentry, cooking, sewing, butchery, riding, herbal identification, farming, hunting, tool repair...

At this rate, if someone dumped him alone in the wilderness with enough time and materials, he could probably handle everything from chopping timber and quarrying stone to firing bricks, forging metal, and eventually building himself an entire castle.

The ridiculous variety actually made sense. Very few soldiers here had been trained from childhood as professional warriors. Most ordinary troops came from commoner backgrounds. Before joining the army, they might have been farmers, hunters, carpenters, masons, or blacksmiths.

Now that they’d died by Lin Yan’s hand, the System had stripped away the skills they’d once used to make a living and stuffed them into his library.

Lin Yan stopped scrolling.

If he actually went through several hundred White Traits one by one, there would be no point going back to Lucia. So he switched to the Green section instead. The list shrank dramatically, though quite a few entries had an irritating "Pseudo" sitting in front of their names.

[Pseudo-Green Trait — Sacred Affinity I]

[Effect: Greatly increases the user’s affinity for and capacity to bear sacred energy, allowing the body to accept, store, and utilize sacred energy far more easily.]

[Side Effect: As sacred energy accumulates over time, the user’s emotions, desires, and sense of self will gradually fade, while their dependence upon and reverence toward the source of that sacred energy will continue to intensify.]

[Pseudo-Green Trait — Sacred Energy Reservoir I]

[Effect: Greatly increases the amount of sacred energy the body can store while reducing the physical burden caused by sacred energy.]

[Side Effect: The body will gradually become dependent on sacred energy to maintain its normal condition. Extended periods without sacred energy will cause a significant decline in bodily function, accompanied by severe weakness and discomfort.]

The effects were certainly strong enough to qualify as Green. The drawbacks were just as worthy of that "Pseudo" label. Lin Yan skimmed the rest and found more or less the same pattern, so he excluded all of them.

Only four genuine Green Traits remained without side effects.

[Green Trait — Archery II]

[Green Trait — Blade Arts II]

[Green Trait — Universal Assimilation Physique II]

[Green Trait — Sacred Physique II]

He had already checked Archery and Blade Arts, so Lin Yan opened the third one.

[Green Trait — Universal Assimilation Physique]

[Effect: Grants the user an extremely high degree of energy adaptation and conversion. The body can accept external energies of different natures, slowly absorb them, and convert them into nourishment for its own growth.]

[Enhancements obtained through this process are permanent and affect the body as a whole. With long-term accumulation, strength, speed, endurance, vitality, regenerative ability, physical durability, and various resistances can all gradually improve.]

[There is no restriction on the nature of energy that can be accepted, but conversion is relatively slow, and the amount of energy the body can contain at any given time depends on the user’s current physical strength.]

In other words, whatever he encountered in the future, as long as it was some form of energy and his body could withstand it, Universal Assimilation Physique could take it in and slowly turn it into something of his own.

The more Lin Yan thought about it, the more insane the Trait seemed.

And this is only a Green Trait?

He had to stop there.

If he kept going, he could probably waste the next hour just imagining all the things he might do with it.

He moved on to the final Trait.

[Green Trait — Sacred Physique II]

[Effect: A growth-type talent unique to Valerians. The user can receive and contain a certain amount of sacred energy, while also gradually increasing their own sacred nature through prolonged, heartfelt prayer and faith.]

[As the user’s sacred nature grows, their affinity for and capacity to contain sacred energy will increase accordingly. Rote prayer and insincere faith produce no effect, and growth is extremely slow.]

Lin Yan searched the White Traits for the same name and actually found one.

[White Trait — Sacred Physique I]

[Effect: A growth-type talent unique to Valerians. The user can receive and contain a small amount of sacred energy, while also gradually increasing their own sacred nature through prolonged, heartfelt prayer and faith.]

Among the people Lin Yan knew, roughly seven out of ten had some kind of faith—whether in a god, a religion, or something else.

And that was without faith bringing any real, tangible change. Here, as long as someone was devout enough, faith could actually bring concrete benefits.

If Earth worked like this too... pretty much everyone would be a zealot.

Lin Yan closed the Trait screen. Once it was no longer blocking his view, he noticed the old knight crouching beside Nadir’s corpse, slowly cutting open the dried-out abdomen with his sword.

Lin Yan frowned.

"What are you doing?"

The old knight didn’t even look up, keeping his sword at work inside Nadir’s abdomen.

"Looking for the key."

Lin Yan glanced at the tightly shut door ahead, then back at the old knight still rummaging through the corpse.

"Aren’t we in a hurry?"

"The door’s locked."

"..."

Lin Yan said nothing more. He turned and headed back the way they’d come, returning shortly afterward with the M2 in his hands. At the sound, the old knight looked up. Lin Yan was already bracing the gun in front of him, its muzzle aimed straight at the locked door the old knight was still trying to find a key for.

"Move."

RATATATATATAT—!!

The M2’s roar filled the entire passage, muzzle flashes merging into a continuous blaze as heavy rounds hammered into the door one after another. Wood splinters, shards of metal, and fragments of stone sprayed through to the other side. The door began breaking apart from the center, then the surrounding frame was ripped apart under the barrage as well. Within seconds, the door and the surrounding frame had been blasted apart.

Lin Yan didn’t release the trigger. The door was already gone, but he kept firing, sweeping the muzzle sideways until the stream of rounds tore into Sahir’s body near the entrance.

THUD-THUD-THUD-THUD—!

The corpse, which had still been recognizable as human moments ago, was sent rolling across the floor. The gray robe burst apart piece by piece, and the shriveled flesh underneath was shredded along with it by the large-caliber rounds. Lin Yan kept firing until the body had been torn apart beyond recognition, then finally released the trigger.

He was a man of his word.

"Let’s go."
