That day, when Ryan had first seen Sora making something called a cake, he had only intended to watch.

At the time, his curiosity had been purely about the food.

He wanted to understand how she could turn ordinary ingredients into something so different.

But the longer he watched, the more his thoughts changed.

Eventually, he found himself wanting to taste it.

And when he finally did, he discovered that the cake was unexpectedly delicious.

Ryan had even thought it was perfectly fine for the other beastmen to eat with Sora.

In fact, he had wanted to join them.

That realization had surprised him.

Somewhere along the way, he had stopped merely observing Sora’s inventions and started wanting to be part of the moments surrounding them.

That was probably why, during the Moon God Festival, he had given Sora the most precious luminous pearl of the mermaid tribe.

After drinking the milk tea she had made, he had felt an unfamiliar sweetness settle in his heart.

For once, he had felt completely at ease.

Yes.

This feeling... is what makes me comfortable.

Ryan had thought he finally understood how he could get along with Sora without making things complicated.

But then came last night.

After what happened at the hot spring, he had another sleepless night.

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t stop thinking about Sora.

And somewhere deep inside, Ryan began to suspect that there might be something else he wanted from her.

So when Sora invited him to her wooden hut, he hesitated.

Only for a moment.

Then he agreed.

The Wild Kitchen wasn’t far from Sora’s home.

The path between the two places was smooth and familiar.

It should have taken only a short time.

Yet for Ryan, every step felt painfully long.

His heart wouldn’t calm down.

With every step, it seemed to beat harder.

Why am I so nervous?

Ryan couldn’t understand it.

Sora walked ahead of him at her usual quick pace.

Ryan, meanwhile, became slower with every step.

He couldn’t stop thinking about what might happen once they reached her room.

What am I supposed to do?

He swallowed.

Shouldn’t Sora be the one to take the initiative?

After all, she had always been rather straightforward.

She had even been the one to approach him before.

Remembering that made Ryan’s heart settle slightly.

Yes.

I don’t need to think so much.

When the beastmen had rebuilt Sora’s wooden hut, they had deliberately built their own homes nearby.

At the time, they had simply wanted to remain close to her.

None of them had imagined that the arrangement would eventually become useful for spying on one another.

As Sora and Ryan left the Wild Kitchen, several figures quietly followed.

They moved carefully, making sure not to be noticed.

Ace watched the two of them with an increasingly irritated expression.

He couldn’t forget the previous night.

When he had gone to Sora’s room before, she had been reluctant to let him stay.

Yet today...

She had actually invited Ryan herself.

So she really is selective.

Ace’s expression darkened.

He had never thought much of Ryan’s relationship with Sora.

But now, seeing the two of them walking toward her hut together, he couldn’t help feeling uncomfortable.

Xavier had an even stronger reaction.

His house was the closest to Sora’s.

He had been one of the first to suggest building the houses near her.

Now that decision seemed to be working against him.

From his window, Xavier watched Sora reach the entrance of her hut.

His purple eyes gradually turned darker.

The thought of Ryan entering Sora’s room made something unpleasant stir inside him.

I need to find a way to get even.

Lucas was equally unhappy.

He silently calculated his position among the beastmen.

Aside from Damien, who had not yet formed a contract totem with Sora, Lucas was already feeling like he was falling behind.

He was one of the last among them.

And that was unacceptable.

He might look calm on the outside, but internally, he was already thinking about what he could arrange for tomorrow.

If Sora truly became his female...

Then how could he simply watch another beastman pursue her right in front of him?

It was absurd.

With his strength and status, he shouldn’t have to compete with several other beastmen over one female.

If Sora really was his destined female, he couldn’t accept the current situation forever.

Meanwhile, Sora finally reached her door.

She pushed it open.

Ryan’s heart immediately began pounding.

It was stronger than ever.

The wooden door creaked softly as it opened.

Sora stepped inside.

Ryan followed after her, swallowing nervously.

This was his first time entering Sora’s wooden hut.

The moment he stepped inside, he became slightly surprised.

Compared with the crude homes throughout the tribe, Sora’s hut felt different.

It was simple, but everything had a place.

There was an unusual sense of order.

To the left of the entrance stood two pale wooden trunks with a smooth branch laid horizontally between them.

Sora had turned them into a small clothing rack.

Several beast-skin skirts hung neatly from it.

They had been arranged according to size.

Ryan’s eyes lingered on them.

He remembered how Sora’s old cave had looked.

Back then, her clothes had often been piled together.

She hadn’t possessed nearly as many clothes as she did now.

Now, however, the rack was filled with garments made from different materials.

Some were made from bee skin.

Others were made from various animal skins.

Many of them had clearly been crafted by Lukan.

Ryan’s gaze slowly traveled along the row.

Then he stopped.

At the very end hung a tiny yellow leopard-patterned skirt.

It was remarkably small.

Ryan immediately recognized it.

He remembered seeing Sora wear it once.

More importantly, he remembered that she had once hit him over the head with it.

The memory suddenly returned with embarrassing clarity.

Ryan’s ears turned red.

He quickly looked away.

Why am I remembering that now?

He forced himself to focus on the rest of the room.

To the right stood a wooden table.

Several bamboo tubes rested on top of it.

Beside them was a large pottery jar filled with fresh yellow and green wildflowers.

The flowers brought a surprisingly elegant touch to the simple room.

They looked bright and alive against the primitive surroundings.

Ryan’s gaze softened.

Sora had changed the way she lived.

She had turned a simple wooden hut into a comfortable home.

Further inside, he noticed a stone-lined fire pit filled with firewood.

It was clearly used for cooking.

Beside it was a bed made from layers of soft beast skins.

Ryan’s eyes immediately landed on the bed.

His ears became hot again.

He looked away almost instantly.

The hut wasn’t particularly large.

Ryan silently calculated the space.

If he transformed into his beast form...

Well, his fish tail would probably still fit.

That thought made his heart beat even faster.

He quickly shook it away.

What am I thinking?

Sora, completely unaware of his internal struggle, walked farther inside.

"Wait here."

She turned toward him.

"I’ll get the mirror."

Ryan nodded.

But his eyes continued moving around the room.

Everything here seemed to carry some trace of Sora.

The carefully arranged clothes.

The flowers.

The pottery.

The tools.

The simple furniture.

Even the small details seemed intentional.

It wasn’t luxurious.

But it was comfortable.

And strangely...

It felt like her.

Ryan suddenly understood why he had wanted to come inside.

Perhaps it wasn’t only because of the mirror.

Perhaps he had wanted to know more about Sora herself.

He had spent so much time watching her make things that he had never really stopped to consider the person behind those inventions.

The more he saw, the more curious he became.

Sora returned holding the mirror.

She smiled and handed it toward him.

"This is what you were asking about."

Ryan stared at the object.

The smooth surface reflected his face clearly.

His eyes widened.

He leaned closer.

"This..."

His curiosity instantly took over.

Sora smiled.

"I made it so I can see my reflection clearly."

Ryan carefully examined every part.

"How?"

And just like that, the awkward tension between them faded slightly.

Ryan was back in familiar territory.

Something new.

Something mysterious.

Something he could understand by asking questions.

Sora patiently began explaining.

But neither of them noticed that outside the hut, several beastmen were still watching.

Ace was glaring through the nearby trees.

Lucas was silently calculating.

Xavier’s purple eyes remained fixed on the hut.

Lukan watched with an unreadable smile.

Damien looked increasingly amused.

And Ryan?

For the first time, he wasn’t thinking about escaping.

He was standing inside Sora’s home, holding something she had created, listening to her explain how it worked.

Yet beneath his curiosity was another realization.

He didn’t merely want to understand Sora’s inventions anymore.

He wanted to understand Sora.

And that realization frightened him far more than the mirror ever could.
