Sora carefully brushed away the hot salt before unwrapping the banana leaves.

Golden roasted chicken emerged.

Its skin shimmered beautifully.

The meat practically fell apart from tenderness.

She peeled several salt-baked eggs as well.

The whites were firm.

The yolks had turned creamy and fragrant.

Using broad leaves as plates, she divided everything equally.

"Everyone gets the same amount."

Ace accepted his portion first.

Without hesitation, he bit into the chicken.

Crunch.

The golden skin cracked.

Juices exploded across his tongue.

His eyes widened.

"It’s delicious."

Lucas hesitated briefly.

He remembered Sora had covered herself with those same hands earlier.

Fortunately...

She had washed them thoroughly at the salt well.

After convincing himself everything was clean, he finally took a bite.

Almost instantly—

His elegant composure disappeared.

He began eating much faster.

If he hesitated any longer...

Ace and Xavier would finish everything.

Xavier silently devoured two pieces before anyone noticed.

Sora couldn’t help smiling.

"See?"

"I told you we’d make something delicious."

The awkward incident from earlier gradually faded from everyone’s minds.

Good food had a remarkable way of easing embarrassment.

After lunch, the four rested beneath the shade near the cave entrance before returning to work.

They filled every animal-skin sack with coarse salt.

Before packing the final load, Sora extended her hand toward the brine.

Water obeyed her command.

Clear streams lifted into the air like ribbons.

As the water separated from the crystals, the salt became lighter and easier to transport.

Lucas stared.

"Your water ability became stronger."

Sora smiled mysteriously.

"Maybe I’ve just been practicing."

In truth, she could already feel the difference brought by reaching Water Ability Level Two.

Controlling water required far less effort.

Even maintaining multiple streams simultaneously felt almost effortless.

When everything had finally been packed, Lucas crouched.

"Come on."

"I’ll fly us back."

Sora shook her head.

"Not today."

"Huh?"

She walked over toward Ace instead.

"I’ll ride with you."

Ace blinked.

"Why?"

She looked toward the distant forest.

"There’s one more place I want to visit."

Lucas looked puzzled.

"Another salt well?"

"No."

Sora smiled.

"Red clay."

"The soil near our camp is too loose for pottery."

"But when we followed the mountain goats here..."

"I noticed a stretch of excellent red clay nearby."

"If we can gather enough..."

She looked at the heavy fruit-shell bowls strapped to their packs.

"...I’ll finally be able to make real ceramic pots."

The three beastmen stared at her again.

First salt.

Now pottery.

How did Sora always seem to know where useful things could be found?

Whatever strange knowledge she possessed...

It continued to improve all of their lives.

* * * * * *

The rich red earth stretched across the hillside like a blanket of rust beneath the afternoon sun.

Sora’s eyes immediately brightened.

"There!"

She jumped down from Ace’s back before he had even fully crouched.

"This is exactly what I was looking for."

The three beastmen followed behind her with puzzled expressions.

Lucas folded his arms.

"It’s just dirt."

Ace nodded in agreement.

"It doesn’t smell any different from the soil back home."

Only Xavier crouched beside Sora, scooping up a handful of the crimson earth.

"It is different."

He rubbed it between his fingers.

"It’s much finer."

Sora smiled.

"Exactly."

"The soil around our camp is loose and sandy. It falls apart too easily."

She squeezed the clay into a small ball before flattening it with her palm.

"This one sticks together."

"It has good plasticity."

Lucas blinked.

"...Plastic...what?"

"It means I can shape it."

She rolled the clay into a long rope before bending it into a circle.

"It won’t immediately crumble."

The three exchanged glances.

They still didn’t understand.

Sora looked around before picking up a sturdy branch.

"This should work."

She plunged it into the ground.

Thud.

The moist clay lifted easily.

"Perfect."

She happily dug out a large chunk before sitting cross-legged beneath a nearby tree.

Ace scratched his head.

"So..."

"What exactly are you making?"

"A pot."

Lucas immediately answered before Sora could.

"Didn’t she already say that?"

Ace frowned.

"Out of mud?"

"Yes."

Ace looked utterly unconvinced.

"If you want a better cooking pot, I’ll just bring you a stone one from the tribe."

"Everyone uses stone pots."

Sora immediately shook her head.

"No."

"They’re far too thick."

"They heat unevenly."

"They’re heavy."

"They waste firewood."

"And food doesn’t taste nearly as good."

Ace opened his mouth.

"I—"

Before he could argue further—

Sora looked directly at him.

"Who cooks better?"

"..."

"You?"

"Or me?"

Ace instantly fell silent.

"...You."

"Then we’ll use my method."

"...Fine."

Lucas and Xavier wisely chose not to add anything.

After all...

If Sora became angry and refused to cook—

The biggest losers would definitely be them.

The four began working together.

Sora demonstrated how to knead the clay repeatedly until it became smooth.

"Like bread dough?"

Lucas asked.

"Very similar."

She nodded.

"But much stickier."

Soon she had the three beastmen rolling long strips of clay while she assembled everything.

"Keep making more."

"I’ll need a lot."

Lucas looked down at the endless coils.

"...How many pots are you planning to make?"

Sora answered without even looking up.

"As many as possible."

She counted on her fingers.

"One large cooking pot."

"One medium pot."

"One soup pot."

"A hot pot."

"A teapot."

"Several storage jars."

"Oil jars."

"Salt jars."

"Rice bowls."

"Serving plates."

"Cups."

The three stared.

"..."

"..."

"..."

Ace slowly asked,

"How many mouths do you think we have?"

Sora smiled innocently.

"I like having options."

Using the coiling method, she carefully stacked the clay ropes upward.

Her fingers smoothed every seam until the walls became perfectly even.

Gradually...

A large round cooking pot appeared.

Then another.

Then another.

The beastmen watched in fascination.

The pile of ordinary mud slowly transformed beneath Sora’s hands.

Lucas couldn’t help moving closer.

"You’ve done this before."

"A lot."

Sora answered honestly.

"I learned during the apocalypse."

"...What’s an apocalypse?"

"...A very bad time."

She quickly changed the subject.

"More clay."

Lucas wisely didn’t continue asking.

As the afternoon passed, pottery slowly accumulated beneath the tree.

Large pots.

Medium pots.

Soup bowls.

Small dishes.

Storage jars.

Even tiny cups.

The three beastmen were becoming increasingly convinced that Sora wasn’t merely playing in the mud.

Although...

They still doubted these things would survive fire.

Ace finally voiced everyone’s thoughts.

"What if they just melt?"

"They won’t."

"They’ll become harder."

"Harder than stone?"

"No."

"But lighter."

"And much better for cooking."

Lucas rubbed his chin.

"If they actually work..."

"They’ll be worth a fortune."

Sora paused while shaping another bowl.

She suddenly looked toward the three beastmen.

"Hmm..."

"What’s wrong?"

Xavier asked.

"If we’re going to eat together every day..."

"We should each have our own bowl."

The three blinked.

"Our own?"

"Yes."

"So nobody mixes them up."

She immediately began making four identical bowls.

After finishing the fifth one—

She picked up a thin twig.

"Let’s decorate them."

Lucas leaned over curiously.

"What are you drawing?"

"A mark."

She carefully scratched a winding shape into one bowl.

"This one belongs to Xavier."

Xavier looked down.

"...That’s me?"

"Of course."

"You’re a snake."

Lucas looked closely.

"It looks more like an earthworm."

Xavier nodded.

"The head and tail are exactly the same."

"And why does it have lines across its body?"

Sora blinked.

"Those are your scales."

"..."

"Those look like segments."

"My scales are majestic."

"They’re not worm segments."

Sora tilted her head.

"They looked similar to me."

Xavier covered his face.

"I’ve never been insulted like this before."
