Fated love: the unwanted bride

Chapter 2561: I Am Sylvan Cheney

In the middle of the night, not knowing what time it was, a strong wind started howling outside, rustling the leaves and making the sound of a rapid storm everywhere.

It’s easy for a thunderstorm to occur on a summer night, and this night was no exception. The fierce wind continued; after a flash of lightning, the thunderstorm fell along with lightning and thunder, pitter-pattering against the windows.

The sound of the wind and rain outside was unending, and in the quiet night, it sounded particularly noisy.

Ever since Jasmine Yale had Little Clementine, her sleep had been very light, often waking up at the slightest noise.

This night was no exception.

As soon as the thunder sounded, she was startled awake.

She was quite afraid of thunder, despite being older now, she still harbored fear in her heart.

Little Clementine, on the other hand, slept soundly, not afraid of the thunder like she was.

Jasmine quietly turned on the bedside lamp and sat on the bed in a daze.

The air conditioning was humming, and the room was very cool. The thunderstorm came with overwhelming force, as if the thunder were booming between heaven and earth, lightning streaking across the night sky, brightening the darkness as though it were daytime.

When a loud thunderclap rang out, Little Clementine woke up, crying.

Jasmine hurried over, gently picked her up: "Sweetie, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, don’t cry."

Little Clementine cried fiercely, and Jasmine covered her ears.

Such weather is common in summer, and Jasmine had long been accustomed to it.

Little Clementine cried for a while, then nestled in Jasmine’s arms, too tired to cry anymore, just breathing heavily.

Just then, Jasmine’s phone rang.

Who would call her at such a late hour?

She sat on the edge of the bed with Little Clementine in her arms and answered.

"Hello."

"It’s Sylvan Cheney," the other side slowly spoke.

Jasmine said nothing, glanced at the time, half-past midnight, the dead of night.

"It’s thundering outside." Not hearing her voice, he continued.

"I can hear it."

"I guess you might be awake. The thunder is loud tonight, with stormy rain, a bit like the end of the world scene, and a bit like... the war-torn scenes from the movie we watched last time in my apartment."

Jasmine tightened her grip on the phone: "What are you trying to say? Calling me in the middle of the night, what do you take me for..."

Her voice was much calmer than usual, perhaps because of the weather, she truly felt drained.

"Nothing, it’s just that I don’t know many people in Cakago either."

"You should hang up."

"I heard Little Clementine crying, children are afraid of thunder, comfort her. It really tests your patience, but if you have none, you can put the phone to her ear, and I’ll help you soothe her."

Jasmine didn’t make a sound and hung up the phone.

She held Little Clementine, looking down at the little one in her arms, who was crying so hard she was gasping for breath.

"It’s okay, don’t be afraid, mommy’s here."

Little Clementine’s eyes were red and swollen.

The thunder outside was still loud.

However, gradually, Little Clementine became accustomed to the thunder, and unafraid, her eyelids started to droop again.

Jasmine gently rocked her, singing lullabies to lull her to sleep.

Little Clementine was easy to soothe, and soon, she was asleep again.

Jasmine gently placed her back in the crib, softly rocking it.

Little Clementine slept, smacking her lips, as if she were having a sweet dream, her cheeks flushed pink.

Outside, the thunderstorm raged, raindrops flowing like rivers down the windowpanes, rushing incessantly. The thunderstorm seemed endless, continuing to pour down.

The thunder rumbled one after another, and each time, Jasmine’s heart would leap.
