Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2598: Sylvan Cheney Stands Beside HerJasmine Yale was exhausted from dancing, sipping the red wine in her glass as she sat on the sofa.
While others danced for enjoyment, for her it was like moving bricks, leaving her panting and sweating profusely.
"CEO Caddel, I’m going outside for some air, it’s too hot in here..." She put down her glass, a thin layer of sweat on her forehead.
"Exhausted, huh? It’s okay, after a few tries it’ll become second nature, not too hard. Go ahead, but don’t stay out too long in the cool air, come back soon."
"Alright!"
Jasmine was truly overheated, so she lifted her little dress and ran to the fountain in the manor.
The fountain wasn’t on, but the water in the pond was clear and cool. Sitting beside it brought a fresh chill, and she could hear the gentle murmur of flowing water.
The moonlight was beautiful tonight, with thin clouds like mist. The fresh air outside and the breeze did much to dispel the heat within her.
There were quite a few people outside, enjoying the coolness too.
The air was filled with the rich scent of flowers and the fragrance of grass, and this small manor, distant from the city, had a zen-like world-apart tranquility.
Jasmine sat by the pool, occasionally bending down to scoop a handful of water.
The cool water slipped over her fingertips, spreading a refreshing sensation like an electric current from the tips of her fingers to her heart.
A breeze stirred, rippling the water in the fountain.
The light spread across the water, shimmering brightly.
Jasmine watched the pool for a long time.
"Why do I see you everywhere?" Erin Janus’s voice suddenly sounded behind her.
Jasmine straightened up, squinting at her.
Erin wasn’t wearing a formal dress, but a loose, everyday long dress, wrapped tightly as if afraid of catching cold, and Sylvan Cheney was standing right beside her.
Jasmine didn’t have the energy to speak, offering only a cold smile.
"Husband, it seems this woman is looking at you." Erin playfully accused Sylvan, not bothering to lower her voice, as if talking directly to Jasmine, "Looks like she still has feelings for you. Look at yourself, playing with her emotions like that, it’s been so long, and she still carries you in her heart. Honestly, you are..."
Jasmine chuckled awkwardly, "Miss Janus, it seems your eyes aren’t very clear."
Both Erin and Sylvan looked at Jasmine. They were quite close to her.
"Husband, she has a bias against me, all because of you. It’s partly my fault, too. I should have reconciled with you sooner and not given this woman a chance. Did you perhaps not pay her after sleeping with her back then, that’s why she keeps targeting me."
Sylvan had his hands in his trouser pockets, his deep gaze settling on Jasmine. His sharp eyes scanned her from top to bottom, eventually resting on the strapless part of her dress.
He spoke coolly, "It’s cold outside, time to go in."
"Oh, then let’s go, hubby. CEO Zaila is still waiting for us! This kind of woman isn’t worth pitying, a mistress." Erin threw another cold, angry glance at Jasmine.
"Don’t get angry, it’s not good for the baby," Sylvan advised.
"I know." Erin picked up her bag, looking lovingly at Sylvan.
Jasmine curled her lips, they truly were a perfect match.
Sylvan’s gaze fell on her smile, and he let out an indifferent snort.
The two left, walking side by side, leaving Jasmine where she was.
She withdrew her gaze, turning back to the tranquil pool of water.
The clear moonlight reflected on the pool’s surface, casting a gentle light all around, and her eyes shone with a misty luster, like moonlight streaming on flowing water.
The night was incredibly peaceful.
