Jaguar:

This whole situation has caused me a lot of confusion.

Sooner or later, Theodore and I will go through the same pain. Then what?

I mean, it was strange because, even if it wasn’t really painful, just the thought of leaving Verity behind, where her abusive boyfriend could still get to her, was already getting to me.

I was already stressed, upset, annoyed, angry, and going through a plethora of emotions.

"Don’t worry, he’s fine," Theodore assured me as he extended his hand, rested it on my shoulder, and gave it a reassuring squeeze.

We were sitting in the living room, unable to eat our breakfast.

Even though we were comforting each other, we were both deeply worried.

"It’s not just that," I said. "I’m confused because of everything else happening around us."

I was already looking for a way to introduce the idea that Verity should come and stay here.

I had already invited her and offered her a room in my home, but she had refused.

So I was going to take the legal route instead, a more professional approach that she wouldn’t be able to refuse.

"What do you mean by everything happening around us?" Theodore asked, turning towards me on the couch.

"There’s a stalker targeting everyone around us. Imagine if he found out one of us got sick and somehow managed to get inside our home."

I grimaced as I mentioned the stalker.

It hit me hard that not only was Verity being abused by her boyfriend, but there was also a crazed stalker who wouldn’t let her live in peace because he believed her brother’s actions defined who she was.

"Did something else happen?" Theodore wondered, and I gave him a firm shake of my head.

"No, but are we seriously waiting for something to happen? Hasn’t he done enough already?" I argued, watching Theodore slowly lower his head as the realization struck him too.

"Look, if that man can cross the border as if he’s invisible, who’s to say he couldn’t get inside our mansion?" I continued, noticing the confidence in Theodore’s expression.

"No, he’ll never come here. That would be impossible for him. That’s why he always sticks to the Omega community, because the protection and security over there are much weaker."

As he said that, I watched realisation dawn on him.

"Exactly," I replied.

Silence settled between us.

I wasn’t sure whether he was thinking about Verity or Oliver constantly going out and being attacked, but my concern was Verity.

"And then there’s this stupid employee of ours," I remarked, deliberately avoiding her name.

"Who? Verity?" Theodore asked almost instantly, thankfully saying her name for me too.

"What’s your plan?" Theodore questioned, looking deeply concerned.

He knew what it meant for her to keep getting attacked.

Eventually, people would think we were deliberately neglecting her because we held grudges against her brother.

At least, that was what concerned Theodore.

Mine wasn’t just that.

I didn’t fucking care what people would think.

I mean, of course I did, but in this particular case, I only cared about her safety.

"Are we waiting for another attack on her?" I asked, sighing and placing my hand on my thigh, gently tapping it a few times.

"The thing is, her boyfriend is abusing her."

The words left my lips in a quiet sigh, and Theodore immediately pulled one leg beneath himself to shift on the sofa.

"What do you mean? How do you know that?" he demanded.

"Well, a neighbour contacted me asking for help, and this is what they showed me," I explained as I pulled out my phone and showed him the video of the abuse.

Theodore’s eyes widened to twice their normal size. I even heard his jaw clench.

The women in our company, in particular, had been promised a very secure way of living.

This was a huge failure on our part.

One of our employees was being abused, and nobody was doing anything about it.

"What the fuck? And she still hasn’t broken up with him?" Theodore nearly shouted before setting the phone down stiffly.

"And who sent you this video?" he pressed, reaching for my phone again, probably to check the sender.

I slipped the phone back into my pocket before he could take it.

"I don’t know. Someone submitted it through the reporting panel. You know how we have sections where people can report crimes or ask the community for help? Someone sent it to me there."

I lied, adding enough detail to make it believable.

We did have a panel where employees and pack members could submit reports, personal requests, or requests for help.

"And no, I spoke with Verity. She said she isn’t going to break up with him," I replied, resting one arm along the back of the couch.

"But why? Is she that in love with him?"

Theodore’s question was simple, a genuine question, but it filled me with stress and anxiety just thinking about it.

"No," I replied almost instantly, offended that he would even ask.

"She says she’s allowing the abuse because of what her brother did. She believes she’s taking the punishment for his actions."

Even as I said those words, they sounded completely ridiculous.

How could someone be so selfless that they would willingly inflict so much pain on themselves because of someone else’s actions?

"That’s ridiculous. It’s not her fault," he said, thankfully sharing the same thoughts as me.

"Well, I don’t know what else to do, but she’s being very stubborn. So, I came up with an idea," I began, shifting in my seat until I was facing Theodore.

He looked genuinely interested in what I had to say.

"See, she’s already doing so much work for us. So how about—" I paused, taking a deep breath because I was making a huge gamble.

It could backfire if they started asking why I was so concerned about her.

"That she moves in here until we catch this stalker."

I took a deep pause to clear my throat.

"We won’t tell her we’re trying to hide her from the stalker or her boyfriend, because she’d definitely choose to endure all that pain for Gigi’s sake."

I paused before adding, "We’ll tell her it’s because she needs to work here more often. It’ll be a professional duty, a job requirement."

Once I finished, I carefully studied Theodore’s expression.

He stared at me for a moment before immediately nodding.

"I think that’s a very good idea."

The moment he said it, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t let it show on my face. Otherwise, he would notice my reaction.
