Gigi:
"Oliver, what happened last night?" I asked as soon as I saw him get home.
I knew he would go out for drinks after he successfully did Jenna.
"What?" he replied, sounding genuinely confused.
"Why did you ask the driver to leave Jenna stranded on the side of the road? Do you know she could have gotten lost? She could have been attacked?" I hissed, unable to understand how my brother could be such an idiot.
"I didn’t do any such thing," he defended himself immediately, sitting down on the couch. He looked exhausted. "I spoke to the driver, and he said Rochelle called him and told him to leave her there. So I don’t know. Your evil friend fucking left that poor girl in the woods."
Oliver sounded slightly annoyed by Rochelle’s interference.
So was I.
The fact that she had gotten the number of my trusted driver and called him to leave Jenna in the woods already showed she was trying to take too much control of the situation.
I mean, who the fuck did she think she was?
"Anyway, I’ll speak with her. This is unacceptable. You know she was so scared and crying when she called me. Goddess, what if something had happened to her? What if she had passed out? I don’t even want to imagine passing cars taking advantage of an unconscious woman."
I hissed as I recalled Rochelle’s face.
The fact that she could act so viciously while looking so innocent only made me angrier.
I hated the way she kept interfering in my life.
I didn’t know why she had to become a part of this whole game.
"Well, you’re one to talk."
Oliver’s taunt caught me off guard.
I looked at him, tilting my head, trying to understand what he meant.
"Are you telling me this?" I asked, pointing at myself.
"Uh-huh," he answered, nodding with a small smirk.
That smirk always annoyed me.
"What did I do? I’m the one who cares about Jenna getting home safely. I’m not like Rochelle, so don’t fucking treat me like her," I hissed, hoping he would realize his mistake and apologize.
Instead, he chuckled.
"You care about her?" he scoffed, raising an eyebrow.
"Why? Do you think I don’t?" I shot back, my jaw clenching.
"Oh, come on, Gigi. Let’s just be honest here. The reason she’s in such a bad state today is because you wanted her to be."
Oliver shook his head, letting out a quiet groan.
’Goddess, all the things I do for these people.’
I stared at him in silence.
"What is it? Why are you looking at me like I’m saying something completely unhinged?" he questioned, crossing one leg over the other as though he wasn’t enjoying this.
"I am the reason you have all this luxury, Oliver. And whatever I’m doing to that poor Jenna—" I began more aggressively, making air quotes around ’poor Jenna’. "It’s so our status remains intact."
I finished, but Oliver didn’t look the least bit guilty.
"And let’s not forget, you made the deal because you wanted Verity."
The moment I mentioned her, Oliver set his phone down and tilted his head at me.
"Where did Verity come into all of this?" he asked.
"Oh, look. The poor girl is texting me now." Oliver held up his phone and rolled his eyes.
I had gotten him another phone just so he could text Jenna.
Even though it seemed like I had forgotten, the thought had stayed in the back of my mind, the way my brother had been slowly losing his mind over Vanity.
"What is she saying?" I asked, checking the time on my phone.
I had gotten home only a little while ago after meeting with Ragnar.
He had messaged me early that morning, saying he missed me, so I went over, spent some time with him, made plans with Verity, and then came back home to get dressed.
Mainly because the moment I saw Verity all dressed up, I was immediately bothered.
I wasn’t even sure why.
But it always seemed like she dressed up to impress men, and it really got to me.
So I had to step up my game and look better than her.
"She’s complaining about the whole incident," Oliver replied.
As soon as he said that, I shifted to the edge of my seat.
"What is she saying? Is she going to report it or anything?" I asked hurriedly.
"I don’t know. She wants me to do something about it," he answered.
I immediately got up and sat beside him on the couch, taking his phone from his hand.
I read her message.
She was telling him that after he left, a stranger had approached her and tried to blackmail and threaten her into sleeping with him.
"Okay, listen to me," I told my brother, still holding his phone. "You’re going to make sure you build so much stigma around it that she backs down and says there was a man, but he didn’t do anything."
I needed her to do that because if this got out, it would eventually reach the Alpha King brothers, and then it would be very hard for me to get out of it.
Oliver snatched his phone back from my hand, his grip stinging my fingers.
Then he started typing a reply to Jenna, first telling her he hoped the man hadn’t done anything. After that, he sent a much longer message.
Him: Listen, Jenna. I’m really worried about you, but I really hope you didn’t let him do it.
Him: I wouldn’t want a mate to get so scared that she slept with someone else, especially an Alpha King’s mate.
Him: I hope you fought back and protected yourself.
Oliver hit the send button and turned to me.
"I feel pathetic," he muttered.
I rolled my eyes and slapped his forearm.
Jenna replied almost immediately.
Jenna: Of course I did. I fought hard. I was just trying to let you know there’s a predator like that out in the woods.
Oliver and I exchanged a glance before bursting into laughter.
We had done it.
We had scared her into silence.
