Gigi:

A Few Hours Ago:

"The lunar eclipse is really special. Those who haven’t found their mates are going to find them in the most special way tonight," I said, smiling at everyone.

But an emptiness lingered in my heart, mostly because one person was absent from the whole evening.

Jaguar had earlier claimed that he wasn’t feeling well. He hadn’t even waited for me to arrive.

He had simply gone to his room and locked himself in.

I wanted to go and talk to him, but I guessed Ragnar wanted his brother to get some rest, so I let it be.

Still, deep down, his condition troubled me. He wasn’t well, and I had no clue what I could do to help him.

Fairy lights illuminated the garden beautifully.

Tall, round cocktail tables were scattered around the space, where people could stand, eat, and talk comfortably.

I had arranged the whole setup beneath the night sky so that we would all be there when the eclipse began.

I had heard the eclipse would last a little longer tonight.

However, many of the pack members were planning to watch it begin here before heading home to mate.

Even though no one would conceive tonight, the emotional bond created through mating was said to be unlike anything else.

I was hoping for the same thing.

I wanted to mate with Ragnar tonight on this special occasion and possibly even initiate the marking.

I could hardly wait.

He hadn’t even proposed to me properly, nor had we had a real engagement.

What happened between us a few months ago had been a very small casual proposal, and that was it.

I wanted a grand event for us.

"Excuse me," I murmured, walking over to Theodore, who was downing drink after drink.

I didn’t know what was going on with them.

The brothers all seemed really out of it, except for Ragnar.

He was in full swing, probably because I was with him.

At the same time, I had to be extremely careful about letting Jenna out, so I made sure none of the decorations were in her way.

She had to leave tonight too.

Sadly for her, she wasn’t going to mate with her actual mate.

She was going to mate with a stranger who was blackmailing her.

And to be fair, I had nothing to do with how far this had gone.

I never wanted things to take such a dark turn.

But what else could I do now? She hadn’t left me any other choice.

"Oh Theodore, you haven’t touched a single dish I asked the maids to prepare," I remarked, folding my arms across my chest.

I had picked out a beautiful short red dress for the special night.

I had also made sure not to talk about the occasion in front of Jenna or Verity.

I didn’t want either of them around.

Well, Jenna, for once, couldn’t attend for obvious reasons.

Verity made things very easy for me when she asked for a few days off.

Once she left, I found out from her application that she was going to stay with her boyfriend for two days.

Well, good for her. She was lucky to have a doctor for a boyfriend. She was pretty fortunate.

"I’m not in the mood," Theodore replied without even glancing at me.

My smile began to fade as I placed my hand over his.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

He slowly looked up at me and gave me a broken smile.

"I don’t really like this full moon, lunar eclipse, whatever these things are," he muttered.

Our eyes lingered on each other for a while.

"Huh," he uttered, looking away and scratching the back of his neck.

I guessed it was working. Whenever we made eye contact without interruption, I could see him getting lost in my eyes.

But then, of course, Mrs. Bundy had to come over.

"Theodore, come on, eat some sandwiches," she urged as she set a plate on the table, standing right beside us.

This was why I wanted this family gone.

Ever since they had arrived, all my interactions with the brothers had been limited.

Whenever I sat close to them, I would notice Mrs. Bundy clearing her throat to get Lady Lucille’s attention.

Lady Lucille would then remind the brothers to keep their distance from me.

I didn’t want that kind of stigma planted in their minds, making them think they were doing something wrong.

"Um, Gigi, why don’t you go and spend some time with Ragnar? Look, he’s standing alone at his table."

I felt so bummed when Mrs. Bundy did the same thing again, gatekeeping the brothers.

This time, Theodore didn’t even lift his head. He just kept drinking his wine, and I began to wonder why.

What had happened to sour not only Jaguar’s mood but Theodore’s as well?

Then I thought maybe the brothers had argued about something.

Those two usually butted heads, so that was a possibility.

Thinking that could be the case, I walked away to join Ragnar.

Just as I was about to wrap my arm around his, his phone beeped.

"Excuse me," he uttered, stepping away as he frowned at the screen.

I watched him read something, and then I noticed his body language change.

His eyebrows twitched subtly before he shook his head and hurried toward the car.

"Ragnar!" I called, going after him and catching up with him in the parking lot. "What’s going on? Are you going somewhere?"

He immediately got into the car.

"It’s an important issue. Something related to the monster in the woods," he explained, making my heart flip in my chest.

"Then shouldn’t you be taking the warriors with you?" I questioned, reaching for the door, but he had already shut himself inside.

"No, it’s fine. It’s just fine," he insisted.

He left with such urgency that it was as if he didn’t even have a second to spare for me.

I didn’t know what to think. I just felt bad, lonely, neglected, and ignored.

I turned around and looked at the crowd. Tonight, I was the loneliest one.
