The tiny panther cub looked straight up at Voss with a mischievous, sparkling glint in his black eyes. Before the battle-hardened wolf mercenary could even wrap a clean towel around him, a soft pop of spatial distortion rippled through the air.
The cub vanished.
There, a tiny, blonde-furred panther cub was already contentedly curling his tail around a lock of his mother’s hair, completely unfazed by the fact that he had just bypassed the laws of physics.
"Yep... definitely his father’s son," Voss mumbled, his rugged mercenary voice cracking as a look of sheer, helpless disbelief washed over his face.
"Little shit... I love him already, but what the hell was that? They can already use their magic?" He lowered his hands, shaking his head as fresh tears of profound joy blurred his amber eyes. He looked at Felicity, his heart completely bursting with an intense, overflowing worship. "Fel... you’re incredible. Truly incredible."
Felicity let out a soft, breathless laugh, though she was too exhausted to fully process the miracle of a teleporting infant. She tilted her head back against the pillow, gently rubbing her cheek against the tiny, warm fur of her newborn panther son. She pressed a tender kiss right between his twitching blonde ears, her heart melting.
"I love you so much, you little troublemaker," she whispered softly.
But the moment of peace was fleeting. Before the echo of her voice could even fade, Felicity’s smile vanished. Her face twisted sharply in pain, her brow furrowing deeply as her fingers gripped the silk sheets with white-knuckled intensity. A sharp, heavy gasp caught in her throat.
This contraction was different. It wasn’t like the first three; it felt deeper, tighter, and significantly heavier. This one was going to be a tough one. Sensing the sudden shift in her breathing, Felicity closed her eyes and immediately channelled her inner energy. Instantly, a soft, soothing wave of emerald-green light and shimmering golden energy rippled out from her palms. The healing warmth washed directly over her abdomen, working in perfect tandem with a heavy fortification buff to blunt the agonising edge of the pressure, keeping her stamina from plummeting.
The six massive beast-men instantly crowded closer to the nest, their towering frames forming a protective wall of muscle and devotion around her. Their breathing turned shallow, their eyes darting around in a frantic, completely melted daze. They looked at the beautiful purple-scaled boy clinging to her chest, then to the tiny blonde wolf cub nuzzling her collarbone, then to the little panther sleeping soundly on her pillow, and finally down to her round, trembling belly where the final heartbeat thumped.
They were completely surrounded by her life, her love, and the beautiful family she was building for them. Voss swallowed hard, blinking away the happy tears still clinging to his eyelashes as he carefully repositioned himself at the foot of the bed. His hands steadied, his clinical instinct locking back into place, but a sudden, breathless smile broke through his serious expression.
"Prep the clean linens and get a fresh basin ready," Voss commanded the other men, his voice trembling with an overwhelming wave of emotion. He looked up, his eyes meeting Dimitri’s and Exile’s. "I think... I think this last one is the girl."
The words echoed through the room. Instantly, everyone’s hearts soared to impossible heights. In a world where female cubs were the rarest, most precious treasures in existence and born from the female, they all blindly worshipped the mere thought of a baby girl, sending a jolt of pure, electric ecstasy through every single man in the room. Dimitri’s breath caught, Exile’s grip tightened with a fierce, quiet joy, and Damien looked like he was about to fall to his knees in prayer.
Felicity’s body seized. The contraction ripped through her like a tidal wave, and she bore down with everything she had left, every ounce of strength, every scrap of willpower she’d been hoarding through three births already. Her teeth clenched, a guttural cry tearing from her throat as she pushed. Then again. Two final, desperate, bone-deep shoves that emptied her completely.
And then release.
The first thing Voss saw was two tiny pink feet, impossibly small, toes curling and uncurling in the cool air. Then came the rest of her, sliding into Voss’s waiting hands with a soft, wet sound that made Felicity’s heart stop and restart all at once. A girl. A perfect, furious little girl cub with two miniature white wings plastered flat against her tiny back, wings that twitched and fluttered weakly against Voss’s broad palms. Two tiny fists were already clenched, opening and closing in angry little grabs at nothing, at everything. A head of fluffy white hair, damp and sticking up in every direction. A face scrunched into a furious, bunched-up knot of outrage.
And then sound. A furious, indignant wail that shattered the silence of the room, wah, wha, wah, high and clear and absolutely livid. Crystal-blue eyes, wide open and blazing with the exact same vivid, electric blue as Felicity’s own, stared up at the ceiling with the pure, uncomplicated fury of a creature who had just been violently evicted from the only home she’d ever known.
Felicity’s breath left her in a sob. She couldn’t even form words. Her arms were already reaching, shaking, fingers stretching toward the screaming bundle in Voss’s massive, trembling hands.
Voss was crying. Actually, he was crying, tears streaming openly down his scarred face as he moved with a clinical tenderness that seemed to contradict everything about his battle-hardened frame. He wrapped the cub in a soft white blanket with hands that shook so badly he nearly fumbled the fold, tucking the tiny wings carefully against her back, swaddling her tight. His amber eyes were glassy, ruined, completely undone as he lifted the screaming bundle and placed her into Felicity’s waiting arms with the reverence of a man handling something sacred.
"There she is," Voss whispered, his voice wrecked. "There’s your girl, Fel. Your beautiful girl."
Felicity pulled the cub against her chest, and the world narrowed to nothing but this warm, wriggling, furious weight against her skin. Her daughter. Her daughter. The word kept repeating in her head like a prayer she couldn’t stop saying. She rocked her gently, pressing her lips to the damp white hair, whispering through her tears.
"Shh, shh, shh, little girl. It’s okay. Shh, shh, shh. Mummy’s here. Mummy’s got you."
