The cub’s wailing hitched. Sniffled. Those crystal-blue eyes blinked up at Felicity’s face, and something shifted, some primal recognition, some instinct that told the tiny creature this was safety, this was warmth, this was hers. The furious fists unclenched. One tiny hand reached up and grabbed a fistful of Felicity’s honey-blonde hair, tugging with surprising strength. A wet, gurgling sound bubbled from the cub’s lips, not a cry anymore, but something almost like a giggle, a hiccupping little noise of contentment.
Felicity laughed through her tears, a watery, broken sound. She carefully unwrapped the blanket, peeling it away until the cub was pressed skin-to-skin against her chest, that warm little body nestled right over her heartbeat. The tiny wings fluttered once against her collarbone, then stilled, tucking close.
Then movement. Felicity felt the shift before she saw it. The panther cub, still curled on her pillow with his tail wrapped around her hair, suddenly went very still. His black eyes widened, locking onto the tiny white-haired bundle pressed against his mother’s chest. His tail, which had been so carefully coiled, went slack. And then Felicity watched it happen with her heart in her throat. The little eagle girl’s free hand reached out and latched onto her brother’s tail, gripping it tight and giving it a clumsy, delighted tug.
The panther cub didn’t teleport away. Didn’t yank his tail free. He just stared at his sister with those wide, adoring eyes and made a soft, chirping sound that vibrated against Felicity’s neck.
The purple-scaled cub, still clinging to her chest, lifted his head. Those dark, serious eyes fixed on the new arrival, and his tiny clawed fingers reached out to brush against his sister’s white hair with a gentleness that made Felicity’s chest ache. The blonde wolf cub at her collarbone stirred, nuzzling closer, pressing his warm fur against the eagle girl’s side as if trying to share his body heat.
All three of her sons were awake, alert, completely transfixed, crowded around their sister with a protective, curious intensity that made Felicity’s vision blur all over again.
She looked up through her tears, and the sight nearly broke her.
Victor was crying. Not the controlled, dignified tears of a man who rarely showed emotion, no, no, these were the raw, ugly, completely unrestrained sobs of a man whose entire world had just shifted on its axis. His massive silver-and-black wings were trembling, half-spread behind him as if he couldn’t decide whether to wrap them around the entire room or fold them tight against his body. Those blood-red eyes were locked on the tiny white-haired cub with an intensity that bordered on feral, a primal, possessive recognition that radiated from him like heat from a furnace.
His. Felicity could feel it without him saying a word. This cub was his. The pull between them was almost visible, a magnetic, instinctive bond that went deeper than blood or biology. He had been the one to claim the end of her heat, the one whose seed had found its mark in that final, desperate coupling. And now here was the proof, wrapped in white wings and crystal-blue eyes, gripping her hair and gurgling against her chest.
But it didn’t matter. That was the thing that made Felicity’s heart crack open even wider. Because Damien was crying too silently, controlled tears tracking down his scaled cheeks as he watched from his coiled position, yellow slit-pupil eyes reflecting the scene with an emotion so deep it looked like drowning.
Exile’s massive coils had tightened around the base of the nest, his pale amber eyes fixed on the cub with a stillness that was somehow more expressive than any words could have been.
Ivan stood tall and steady beside the bed, but his composure was shattered, tears cutting tracks through the fur along his jaw as he watched the four cubs press together.
It didn’t matter whose blood ran through their veins. In this room, surrounded by the men who had fought and bled and loved and nearly died for her, these cubs had seven fathers.
"Come here," Felicity whispered, her voice thick and trembling. She shifted carefully, making room on the nest beside her. "All of you. Come meet your daughter."
Victor moved first. He crossed the distance in two strides, dropping to his knees beside the bed with a force that made the floorboards groan. His massive hand—the same hand that could crush a mutated zombie’s skull reached out with infinite gentleness and brushed one trembling fingertip against the cub’s white hair. The eagle girl turned her head toward the touch, those crystal-blue eyes blinking up at the massive silver-haired beast-man looming over her, and made a soft, questioning sound.
Victor made a noise that wasn’t quite a word. Something between a sob and a laugh, rough and broken and full of a love so vast it had no name. His wings folded forward, creating a canopy of silver and midnight-black feathers that draped over Felicity and all four cubs like a shelter, like a vow.
"Hello," he rasped, his voice barely recognisable. "Hello, little princess."
The other men closed in slowly, carefully, each finding their place around the nest like planets settling into orbit around a new sun. Damien’s hand rested on Felicity’s shoulder, warm and steady.
Exile’s coils shifted, creating a raised platform beside the bed where the panther cub could curl closer to his sister without crowding Felicity.
Ivan’s massive hand found the back of Felicity’s neck a grounding touch, a reminder that they were all in this together.
Voss cleaned Felicity up and sat at the end of the bed, taking in the scene, looking at his little wolf. and the little purple snake and the wild but gentle panther and the heart-stoppingly cute little girl.
Dimitri stood at the edge of the circle, his red eyes bright with a complex tangle of emotions Felicity could only guess at. But when the eagle girl turned her head and those blue eyes found his, something in his rigid posture softened. He stepped forward, just one step, and placed his hand on the nest beside Felicity’s hip.
"She’s perfect," Dimitri said quietly. And for once, there was no competition in his voice. No sharp edge of jealousy. Just raw, aching wonder.
