Final Villain's Broken System: Geniuses Make Me Stronger!
Chapter 23: Throne room politicsAlaric naturally didn’t know what the steward was thinking. He had his attendant bring a meal to his room then began using the Mana Channel Construction Orb.
As Alaric was growing stronger, the rumors kept increasing in his territory.

Capital of Flenn Kingdom.
Throne room.
A guard walked up to the elderly Royal Chamberlain standing below the throne to the left with his hands folded and whispered into his ears before walking away.
The royal chamberlain glanced at the person sitting on the throne and announced.
"Your Majesty, an envoy from House Yuglev is requesting an audience."
The people sitting on eight small thrones didn’t visibly react to it. Messengers, envoys, and others requesting an audience with the king numbered in double digits everyday.
Four small thrones were situated on both sides of the throne room, six corresponding to the six ducal houses and two for the administrative head and commander of the Flenn Kingdom each.
Some were occupied by the people themselves while some were occupied by the spokesperson sent by the person in authority to substitute for them.
Some of them were going through paperwork while some were sitting with their eyes closed, likely focusing on progressing their personal strength.
After the king agreed to meet the envoy from House Yuglev, the royal chamberlain notified the guards to let the envoy through.
The envoy in question walked with his head bowed, not daring to meet the king’s gaze and stopped at an appropriate distance before bowing at the waist.
"Your Majesty, House Yuglev has come with a proposition."
"Speak."
The figure sitting straight on the throne spoke. His voice was deep, carrying an authority that made obedience feel almost instinctive.
"We’ve discovered traces of an unknown group fighting within the territory of House Orlen. House Yuglev suggests that the Crown begin the promotional process for House Orlen’s title upgrade."
As soon as the promotion of House Orlen was mentioned, the throne room suddenly froze, pin drop silence blanketing the atmosphere.
Even the royal chamberlain standing to the left and the commander of the royal guards standing to the right unconsciously held their breaths.
This matter was far too serious to be compared with the countless routine audiences held before the king.
Even the king, who had remained motionless throughout the audience, seemed to radiate an entirely different presence now.
Everyone mulled over the words spoken by the envoy of House Yuglev. Even without accurate information, those words alone conveyed enough.
The king, who had lorded over so many noble houses, without letting the royal family or the kingdom weaken, was no fool. He roughly understood the situation.
He spoke with utmost seriousness. "Are you sure?"
Just then, a spokesperson of a ducal house spoke. "I believe we shouldn’t be too hasty."
On one of the other small thrones sat the duke himself instead of the spokesperson of that house.
The duke glanced at the one who spoke and refuted. "We understand that Duke Evermont is growing old and wants to support the rise of House Orlen to gain ducal status, but is it worth it to offend all of us?"
No one here was foolish enough to misunderstand what that meant. The elderly Duke Evermont supported House Orlen’s rise because House Evermont itself was at risk of losing its ducal status after his death.
With the old and new supporting each other, it would be much less likely for his house to fall in status.
The spokesperson of House Evermont simply shook his head. "I just feel that we must treat this matter more cautiously."
This time another duke spoke, ignoring House Evermont’s speaker. "Is House Yuglev sure that those are unknown men?"
The envoy was under major pressure, being the recipient of the direct gaze of so many high and mighty figures. But he still remembered what must be said.
He glanced at the duke and opened his mouth. "Replying to Duke Bellford, the merchant of our house was staying at the border of Moliken forest and saw that their hunting squad left with two massive beast corpses without any signs of battle on the squad’s armor or exhaustion on their face."
The spokesperson of House Evermont questioned. "Couldn’t the beasts have fought among themselves?"
"Replying to House Evermont, later when our merchant was passing through the Moliken forest, he noticed traces of battle which indicated human involvement."
"It could have been someone from House Orlen who entered prior to their hunting squad and killed those beasts, before calling the hunting squad to take the beasts back."
"Our merchant saw no one entering apart from House Orlen’s heir Alaric."
At that, even the spokesperson of House Evermont turned silent as some of the people present smirked.
The reputation of the mighty House Orlen which accrued insane merits at the border under the leadership of the heroic Marchioness Orlen could be said to have been single handedly ruined by their drunkard young lord Alaric.
Could he possibly kill those beasts even if his physique was strengthened by precious treasures?
It could only be a group of unknown people fighting those beasts.
The spokesperson of House Evermont was helpless but he tried one last time nonetheless. "Unknown people fighting in one’s territory isn’t such a big deal if they’ve already been dealt with, right? It should be no issue if House Orlen has successfully defended their territory.
"We can just have House Orlen present the intruders or their corpses. The Divine Inspectors can trace their origin. They won’t be an unknown group of people then."
"Divine Inspectors cannot be involved so casually." A booming voice rang out. The king, who had been silent until now, spoke with a frown.
The spokesperson of House Evermont didn’t reply. He would’ve been correct if it was a normal situation. Alas, it wasn’t. House Orlen’s promotion was opposed by a majority of the nobles and the royal family as well.
Of course, they would give House Orlen some benefits to placate them after the situation had passed its currently most intense stage but they would definitely not agree to title upgrade.
As expected, another spokesperson representing a ducal house refuted House Evermont’s argument.
At that point, the spokesperson from House Evermont could only give up.
Everyone present was determined to make the uncertainty surrounding the incident as politically inconvenient for House Orlen as possible.
The others in the throne room exchanged glances.
No one was seriously suggesting that House Orlen had failed to defend its territory. The unknown group had likely been killed, else House Yuglev wouldn’t choose to take such a drastic measure.
Yes, some people already had an inkling of who those "unknown people" belonged to, but that no longer mattered.
Because that was not the only matter being considered. House Orlen was currently seeking an elevation in status.
A duchy was not merely a reward for past achievements. It represented the Crown entrusting a noble house with greater authority, greater territory, and greater responsibility.
House Orlen’s Marchioness was fighting at the southwestern border, while an unexplained incident had occurred within their territory.
Was this truly the right time to elevate House Orlen? That was the question everyone now had an excuse to ask.
The battle itself wasn’t the highlight. No one was trying to make the incident sound more serious than it was. They simply seized upon the uncertainty surrounding it.
The king remained silent for a while before finally speaking.
"Marchioness Orlen has accrued immense merit at the border. Before the Crown considers elevating House Orlen, it is time to inspect their territory and treasury."
His gaze swept across the throne room.
"The promotion will be discussed after we have a clearer understanding of the situation."
The envoy from House Yuglev immediately bowed.
"As Your Majesty commands."
The promotional stages were initiated exactly as House Yuglev had hoped.
Alaric had miscalculated the importance of the battle, but the end result was the same.
For his plan to succeed, he had been hoping for an inspection from the beginning.
