As soon as Alaric gave that speech in the central square of Orlena city, news of it began spreading through the entire kingdom at an insane speed.

As mentioned earlier, the rumors that had spread throughout the kingdom were the wick for the explosion Alaric intended to unleash upon it.

And it was an explosion indeed.

While the news about the speech spread, the central square’s crowd began thinning after Alaric left.

The two officials from the royal family looked at each other and sighed.

"The matter has blown out of proportion. It now involves a foreign kingdom, accusations of treason, and the security of the southwestern border.

"It’s no longer something we can handle ourselves. A Divine Inspector will have to deal with it."

One of them spoke at a normal volume since the tavern had been emptied as well.

The other picked up his tea and had a sip before sighing for the umpteenth time. "Madman..."

His partner wasn’t bothered by the constant repetition. He thought the same.

After a period of silence, one of them shook his head. "We can call him a madman for the sheer amount of guts he has, but if this political maneuver really succeeds, it would be enough to place him among the most monstrous political geniuses of our era. The kind of people who are usually Chosen Ones of the Official Path."

"Yeah, those rumors are no longer vague, no longer damaging the credibility of House Orlen, but have instead become their shield."

Previously, the rumor was that unknown people had entered the House Orlen’s territory.

The danger had never been the existence of the unknown people themselves. It had been the absence of an explanation.

The public could interpret in various different ways like - ’Is House Orlen hiding criminals?’ ’Are they doing something forbidden?’ ’Are they hiding a threat from the crown?’

The vagueness of the rumor was damaging to their reputation, but now it had turned into their shield.

The public now knew that House Orlen hadn’t allowed something suspicious to happen in their territory but discovered the infiltrators of their greatest enemy and killed them.

The royal official with a big beard, named Kor, broke a biscuit into two and ate one part before speaking.

"He redirected the suspicion hanging over House Orlen and placed House Yuglev at the center of it."

The other royal official with a trimmed beard, named Theo, bit into a bun and spoke while chewing.

"Everyone knew something was suspicious when House Yuglev put forward a proposition to start the promotional stage of territory inspection.

"Those unknown men likely belonged to them, which House Orlen killed. Using already sacrificed people to drag down House Orlen was a good move.

"But according to Alaric’s public claims, House Yuglev’s men were found at the border while the unknown men killed inside House Orlen’s territory were infiltrators from the Ulyt Kingdom."

Kor sneered. "Now House Yuglev can’t even come out and declare that they had sent their men into House Orlen’s territory rather than the border, because that would be equally devastating to their political standing.

"Admitting to send a hidden armed force to the territory of another noble house is political suicide. House Yuglev has been forced into a defensive position."

Theo nodded, taking the other half of Kor’s biscuit. "But you know what the greatest benefit of this all was?"

"Of course, I always used to score more than you in the academy, how could I miss what you noticed?

"That bastard turned House Orlen’s private problem into the kingdom’s problem.

"Previously, reinforcements could be delayed indefinitely using all kinds of excuses. But if Alaric successfully gets through the Divine Inspector’s investigation, continuing to delay them will become politically dangerous.

"Anyone opposing reinforcement of the southwestern border will now have to explain why they are willing to leave a proven route of enemy infiltration inadequately defended."

Theo chuckled. "Exactly. Sending reinforcements to the border is no longer equivalent to helping House Orlen, but it means protecting the Flenn Kingdom.

"Even noble houses that wanted to support House Orlen but couldn’t afford to openly take sides have now been handed a perfect excuse.

"They no longer need to support House Orlen. They only need to support the security of the southwestern border."

Both of them looked at each other before they shook their heads and sighed.

"Madman... A genius madman..."

At this point, despite belonging to the royal family, even they couldn’t help but look forward to Alaric pulling off the greatest political maneuver in recent years.

"We wait." The head of House Yuglev spoke.

A middle aged man sat on a chair facing him on the other side of his table.

"But Lord, our reputa—"

"Don’t be hasty." The head admonished. His name was Krugar. He pointed to one of the books containing knowledge on court politics and continued.

"As I’ve always taught you, you must be patient. The young heir everyone ignored may have been an extremely skilled hunter all along, waiting patiently for his chance.

"And the moment he acted, he overturned the entire table, reshuffling everything."

However, the middle aged man’s eyes still burned with the desire for retaliation. He gritted his teeth. "He just got lucky."

Krugar looked at his son, Keon, in disappointment. Previously, Krugar had always felt satisfied whenever he compared Keon to Marchioness Orlen’s son.

But after he got reports of Alaric’s speech, he found himself increasingly disappointed with Keon.

Krugar tapped his fingers on the table, the sound echoing throughout the silent study before he asked. "Luck? Why do you think he is lucky?"

Keon immediately replied. "He was lucky that the rumors had already spread throughout the kingdom. Without that groundwork, he wouldn’t have been able to turn one speech into a kingdom wide political issue.

"If he had said this in private or in the court of the throne room, it would be nowhere near as effective."

Krugar nodded his head. "Indeed, those first waves of rumors which spread across the entire kingdom could be said to be the sole reason his tactic is as effective as it is.

"No noble house is foolish enough to allow rumors benefitting others to spread. But I hope you haven’t already forgotten what the first wave of rumors were.

"They were all meant to put House Orlen in a difficult spot. Why would any noble house stop that?"

He then shook his head. "This is no luck. Alaric had deliberately acted foolishly to make everyone let their guards down.

"Not to mention the rumors were inherently harmful to House Orlen anyways, there was also the fact that no one was wary of House Orlen, therefore no one stopped those rumors."

Krugar then tapped his skull. "If people knew of Alaric’s political acumen, they would’ve stopped those rumors even if they thought nothing was wrong with it. All because they would simply be wary of whatever Alaric might’ve planned.

"But since they thought nothing of the temporary head of House Orlen, they took no action to curb the spread of those rumors.

"Most importantly, I suspect that after we spread the first wave of rumors, Alaric himself ensured the following waves spread throughout the kingdom.

"Now tell me, was it still luck that he managed to utilize the power of the masses?"

Keon balled his fist. "Are we going to stay silent?"

Krugar leaned back into his seat. "Yes. We wait for Alaric’s next move. He has made a big move. But he has also dug a massive hole for himself.

"If the Divine Inspector proves that Alaric fabricated even part of this, House Orlen won’t merely lose its chance at promotion. They will have publicly fabricated a foreign threat and falsely accused another noble house of treason.

"At that point, forget about title upgrade to duchy or even retaining their marquisate, House Orlen might be completely stripped of their title.

"Just wait...that madman gambled his house’s fate instead of passively taking the blows and remaining content with their current rank."

Similar discussions were taking place across the kingdom.

Some noble houses marveled at Alaric’s audacity, some cursed his madness, while others had already begun calculating what his success or failure would mean for them.

Would he succeed?
